The record of the girls' 100-meter sprint (短跑) event was broken at the second U-15Gymnasiade held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 21, 2023. Chen Yujie, a 15-year-old girl from Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, finished that race in 11. 56 seconds and became the champion. Chen is called the"Little Flying Man"for her amazing speed. 

Going from a common student to a world champion took Chen only about three years. Apart from her talent, Chen is also a good example of how running is a sport that is friendly for beginners. 

Starting later in life is usually not a problem. Compared to athletes in other sports, like a female gymnast(体操运动员) who might have started training at age 4 or 5, Chen stepped into her sports life at 11. China's star runner Su Bingtian didn't even start training until his second year in middle school. 

"There are also no strict requirements for the height of a runner, "said sports expert Yuan Tinggang. And it's not too expensive. While a curling stone may cost over 10, 000 yuan, running needs only a pair of shoes.

All that from the Bake Sale will go towards supporting sick babies and their families at the Chelsa and Westminster Hospital.

I am supporting this charity after my close friend's baby lost his life because of a serious illness. He was only 13 days old. My friend and her family will run the Dublin Marathon next month to support the charity. No amount is small, so please support us however you can.

It was reported in May 2024 that the China Wildlife Conservation Association(CWCA. 中国野生动物保护协 会 )will sound giant pandas Yun Chuan and Xin Bao to the San Diego Zoo in the United States. which is a symbol of a new 10-vear period of international conservation partnership. The CWCA has organized experienced caretakers and doctors to go with the pandas to the US. The zoo is getting ready to provide the pandas with a largerandunore comfortable living environment. It has also formed a team with special skills related with panda. Ming and scientific research

The cooperation（合作）between the CWCA and the San Diego Zoo dates back to 1996 when Bai Yun and Shi Shi became the first pair of pandas to live in the zoo. Giant pandas Hua Mei, born in 1999, and Mei Sheng,born in 2003,who used to live there,are the result of China-US giant panda research cooperation. Over the past twenty years the two sides have cooperated and solved many technical problems,including important discoveries in key areas like panda raising. 

Since the 1990s, China has cooperated on giant panda conservation with 20 countries. "International cooperation in fields such as disease prevention and control,treatment,and wild training and reintroduction to the wild,has achieved good results. Giant pandas will facilitate communication between peoples and let people around the world know China better,"said Li,the leader of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda

"Scientific and educational outreach（延伸服务）also serves as a key role in international giant panda exchanges,allowing more people to understand giant pandas,which provides very good support for our efforts in protecting wild giant pandas,"Li said.

For his eleventh birthday, Tom was given a gift that would shape his life. On that day his father took him to the Children's Activity Centre and said he could choose any course（课程） that interested him. There was just one requirement (要求): Tom would have to promise（承诺） to study it for at least one year. 

Tom had many hobbies, but none kept his interest for more than a week or two. His mum once gave him a bag of stamps to encourage stamp collecting. That hobby lasted a week. Then his father got him some paints hoping that Tom's artistic side would shine through. Those paints were now under his bed, still unopened. This time Tom's parents would let him decide. 

Tom's eyes moved down the noticeboard that listed (列出) all the courses on offer. He stopped at "Photography". He liked the idea of taking beautiful pictures but the notice said that each student needed their own camera. Although Tom's family weren't poor, they weren't rich either, and a camera cost a lot of money. He continued looking. 

The next course to catch his eye was "Language Art". He didn't even know what that meant. His father explained that it taught people how to make public speeches（演讲）. Tom, a shy boy, could think of nothing worse. Then he saw "cooking", which sounded like something he'd like to do. It was inexpensive and convenient(方便的). It could be done alone and it was also creative. 

Based on（基于） Tom's hobby history, his dad had doubts (怀疑), but he agreed. Much to his parents' surprise, he practiced at home and made delicious meals for his family. Everyone looked forward to birthdays, when they could eat his cakes. Tom got great satisfaction from the pleasure his food brought to others. 

The months turned to years but his hobby never changed again. Now Tom is an adult and runs a successful restaurant. When customers（顾客） say they enjoy his meal, he still gets the same pleasure he did as a child, and remembers the special gift he received all those years ago. 

 As a new student in a school, you will give a talk and introduce yourself in a class. Do you know how to introduce yourself?

 Here are some ways to make sure you can let others know about you quickly:

●Start with a smile and be friendly. This will make your classmates more interested in what you say. 

●Tell others about your name, age, class, hometown, hobbies, and interests. Talking about your family is also a good idea. 

●Speak slowly and clearly, and makeeve contact with your classmates. 

●Let others know what you are good at. This may help you make new friends quickly. 

●Practice beforehand(预先). If you do so, you will feel better when you introduce yourself.
