In the future, we might not just drive or take trains to get around. Smart people are making a new way to travel: flying cars. These cars can drive on the road like usual cars, but they can also fly in the sky like planes.
"Wow, can you imagine flying over traffic jams?" asks Tom.
"Sure, Tom!" answers Sarah. "It would save us so much time."
Flying cars can help deal with(处理) some big travel problems. One is traffic jams. With flying cars, people can fly over them and save time. Another problem is pollution. Many flying cars are being made as electric cars, so...
"I heard these electric(电) flying cars won't pollute the air," Jack puts a word in.
"That's right, Jack," adds Emma. "They' re eco-friendly and a big step towards cleaner transportation(交通)."
Safety(安全) is very important for new ways to travel. Engineers are using cool technology to make flying cars safe. They put safety net s into them, like parachutes and good guided system(导航系统) to help.
"Dad, are flying cars safe?" little Timmy asks.
"Yes, Timmy," his dad reassures him. "Engineers are working hard to make them as safe as possible."
Flying cars are still being tested, but some companies have tried them out. It might take a few years, but soon we might see flying cars in our everyday life. The idea of flying cars is not just a dream any more— it's getting real.
"I can't wait for the day we can just fly to work," says Lisa, excitedly.
"Me neither," agrees Mike. "It's going to change the way we live and travel."
a. Traffic jams. b. Air pollution. c. Electrical waste. d. Weather warming.
No one can deal with all the problems on his own. We all have to ask for favors(寻求帮助)sometimes. But it can be a difficult thing to do, even when you ask a good friend. So how can you ask for a favor and be sure to get a positive response(正面回应)?Here are some suggestions.
Be a nice person. When you ask someone for a favor, you're really asking the person to go out of his or her way to help you. Show the person that you understand he or she is doing something especially nice for you. If people think you're friendly, they're more likely(可能的)to want to help. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}And,of course, a smile goes a long way.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#}How do people respond to requests(请求)like this one,"Hey,Mike, lend me your carl"? They probably refuse. How can you avoid this problem? Be especially careful with how you show your request. For example, say,"Mike, would you mind doing me a favor?" Mike will probably respond like this," Maybe. What do you need? "{#blank#}3{#/blank#}People are more likely to agree to help you when they know the whole story.
Show your respect(尊重). If someone agrees to do you a favor, allow the person to choose when he or she helps you. Be respectful of the other person's time, and try not to ask for too much. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Don't make a habit of asking for favors, and always make sure you're ready to do someone a favor in return.
A. Now you have his attention and can explain the situation. B. Choose your words carefully. C. If someone refuses your request, you should accept the answer politely. D. Thank them sincerely (真诚地)when they help you. E. Try your best to help the one who did you a favor once in your way. |

We all know doing exercise makes us healthy. But many of us don't know which is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, to exercise in the day or at night. Dr. Yang, a famous sleep doctor, advises people to do outdoor exercise for at least 30 minutes a day in the daytime.
Dr. Yang has been doing research on sports and sleep for years. He finds out that those {#blank#}2{#/blank#} exercise in natural light for half an hour every day have better sleep and more energy(能量). Dr. Yang {#blank#}3{#/blank#} gets up at 6:30a. m. Then he usually takes a walk outside. Sometimes he walks his two dogs in the park in the afternoon with his sunglasses left at home.
Many schools put Dr. Yang's findings into practice. They made it a rule that students should do outdoor exercise once or {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a day. In some schools, students even formed outdoor running clubs. After some time, most students said they benefited(受益)a lot from outdoor exercise. Now they sleep better {#blank#}5{#/blank#} concentrate(集中) more on their studies.
Some students are now thinking about inviting their teachers to join them in their daily runs.
A group of US high school students has changed an empty lot(一块空地) into a place of hope. The students go to Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio. The empty lot was full of grass in the past. They wanted it to become a space that could be better for the mental(心理的) health of people living nearby.
After weeks of hard working, now the lot is a different place. There is a wood walkway leading to a purple bench(长椅). A few beautiful plants are already in the ground. There is also a hopscotch(跳房子游戏) board painted bright blue. On a back fence, you can see a wall painting with words like"Love" and"Peace" and the students' handprints on it.
The students painted the bench purple because it is a relaxing color. They think kids can go there to sit together, make friends and stay out of difficulties.
The hopscotch board was for a group of eight to ten school-age kids who live nearby. The students heard nowhere to play.
"The lot gives the people nearby a little hope and a little beauty, " said Lyle Jenkins, a member of the Neighborhood Network. "A lot of people love the place and have great hopes for things getting better. "
