Jessica stopped to look at the poster in the hallway (走廊) at school. There was a competition from CNSA, one lucky student would have the chance to do his or her experiment in space. But it was just in four weeks, Jessica felt worried and she didn't even get an idea for the project.

Jessica had a biology class next period, and she stayed for a while to talk to her biology teacher, Ms. Li.

"Do you have any idea what I can do for the competition, Ms. Li?" Ms. Li looked at Jessica thoughtfully. "Well, Jessica, I can't tell you exactly what to do, but maybe you could think of an experiment that will be good for people's health. Many plants in China are used in medical treatments. You could consider doing an experiment using one of them." Answered Ms. Li. Jessica smiled and said, "Thank you, Ms. Li, you've given me a seed (种子) of a thought!" Jessica walked away and headed straight to the library. She asked the librarian to help her find books about plant science. After looking through many books, her eyes were drawn to the picture of foxglove (毛地黄), a plant which was in her grandparents' garden.

Then, Jessica did further reading about this plant. She found that it was often used to treat the irregular heartbeats. She was excited about her discovery and believed that her experiment would find out if foxglove would grow more rapidly in space. In the next few weeks, Jessica designed an experiment that tested how different light, soil and water can affect the growth of foxglove plants. A week before the competition, Jessica completed her project, made a few changes her teacher suggested and mailed it to CNSA.

A break one day, Jessica told Ms. Li, "My work is done. The next step is...space!"

Could you spend 24 bours without the Internet? I'm not sure how I'd deal with it. These days we all depend heavily on technology, you may or may not be surprised by the results of some recent research about the effects of online and digital （数字的） technology on people's lives. More than half of the people who were questioned said they'd feel "upset" without an Internet connection even for a brief period of time, which is, about 15-30 minutes when they were away from the Internet. 

The scientists also challenged people to spend one whole day without using technology and then report back on what it was like. Some people were surprised that they could not even turn their phones to silent. Nearly fifty percent of them said they felt lonely when they weren't using social media. According to the research, it is harder for the younger people to give up technology. They said that the modern technology has already become a part of their lives. However, there are about 25% of people actually said they felt freer without an Internet connection. It meant they found time to do something they wouldn't usually do such as reading a novel. Some of them said they enjoyed spending more time talking to family and friends face to face.

 It was a sunny. sky after the typhoon(台风) passed and some people found a very large hole next to their village.

 All of the villagers came out to see the hole. They looked inside, but it was dark and nobody could see anything. What happened? Was it a fox hole?

A young man was so surprised that he shouted at the hole, "Hey, come out!" However, only his voice came back from the hole. Then, he picked up a small rock(岩石) and threw(扔) it down the hole. But, still, nothing came out.

 To find out the fact of the hole, the villagers asked a scholar(学者) for help. After looking over the hole, he found nothing, but he tried to look confident, and said for sure, "It's no problem to fill(填充) it up!"

 Seeing this, a businessman came up and offered to buy the hole with lots of money. Later, he built up a company called"Hole-Filling Company". He told everyone the company could hold any litter but they had to pay for it.

 From then on, more and more people came here to put their litter into the hole:

 Hospitals got here to throw the dead people.

 The government put all the dirty water into the hole.

 Slowly, the sea and sky became beautifully blue. Under this clear sky, more and more buildings were built up.

 One day, a worker was working on the top of a tall building. Looking at the blue sky, clear water and green plants, he was happy that the city was getting more and more beautiful.

 Suddenly, he heard a strange shout above his head, "Hey, come out!"

 However, when he looked up, he found nothing. When he sat down for a rest, a rock flew down in front of him from the direction(方向) of the strange shout. He picked it up and wanted to know why it came from the sky.

 Of course, he didn't know anything about the rock. Only the young man in the village could know that: it was the same rock that he threw into the hole.

 Several days later, the sky was not as beautifully blue as before. More and more litter fell down from the sky-dead people, dirty water...
