Hello, my name is Li Lin. You can call me Jack. I'm a 14yearold schoolboy. Now, I am studying at a school in the UK. Let me tell you about the fun things I do in this country. 

I like riding my bike in the UK. I can get anywhere on my bike in Cambridge. It's really fun. But riding a bike in the UK is different from that in China. 

First, you have to ride on the left of the road. In China, you ride on the right. When I go to the UK for the first time, I ride on the right of the road. Cars run fast by me. It is terrible(可怕的). 

Second, the UK bikes have lights on them. They have a white light at the front and a red one at the back. You can use them at night and early in the morning. 

Third, in China, bikes usually have a stand (支架). But you can't find them on most of the UK bikes. Why? You can't leave your bike where you want. You have to put it in a bike park. It's a good idea. 

THE PLANT WORLD

There are more than 400,000 kinds of plants on Earth. Some plants are as big as tall buildings; others are as small as rice. Plants are key parts of the food circle. They play an important part in the nature because they give out oxygen — the gas that all animals need for breathing.

What is a plant?

Most people have no difficulty finding the differences between an animal and a plant. That is because animals can move around, but plants can't. What makes a plant a plant? Like animals, plants are living things that are made up of lots of cells (细胞). Unlike animals, plants make their own food by photosynthesis (光合作用). Most plants have roots, stems, and leaves, and most plants reproduce by growing flowers and making seeds. All plants need energy to stay alive and grow, and they get it from sunlight instead of food.

How does a plant grow?

Most animals grow in a certain way, and genes control their growth. That is to say, even when they are small, it's easy to know what they will look like after they grow up. Plants are different. Their growth is controlled by genes too, but their final shape also depends on where they live. For example, a tree can be big and round if it grows up in an open space, but much taller and thinner if it grows in the woods with other trees all around. Plants are unable to move from one environment to another, so it is important that they are able to get used to the environment.

The Grand Canyon is in the northwest part of Arizona, America. The Colorado River, a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(银灰色的) stream, runs through the canyon. It is really a great 2 {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(奇观). 

If you look around in the canyon, you can see many rocks. Scientists believe these rocks are {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (差不多) or more than two billion years old, but no one can be sure about this. 

About 500 4{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (百万) years ago, small sea animals lived in the sea. When they died, their bodies {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (留下) and became fossils (化石) after a long time. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(虽然) there are no fossils at the bottom of the canyon, you can find something such as the trilobites (三叶虫) by the top. 

Hiking in the Grand Canyon is very{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(不同的) from any other hiking. Because the weather there is hot and dry and the sun {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(照耀) brightly. You need a lot of water for going down the canyon in the day. You should {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(盖, 盖上) every part of your skin in summer and you'd better wear light clothes and a hat. In my {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(看法), you should hike in the coolest part during the day and rest for a while at noon. 

The Yingge Dance, or "dance to the hero's song" is a traditional art form in Chaoshan area. The dance can date back to the Ming Dynasty (1368—1644). At that time, dancers {#blank#}1{#/blank#} it during traditional Chinese festivals. Today, Chaoshan people perform the Yingge Dance to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the Spring Festival.

Usually, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} number of the performers in the Yingge Dance is either 24 or 36. Each of them {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a role of the "108 Heroes" from Liangshan Mountain, a place in a famous traditional Chinese story. To prepare for a full day of performances, the performers have to practice for at {#blank#}5{#/blank#} six months. They also have to wear heavy clothes during their practice. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} it is hard work, more and more young people are joining the dancing teams because of {#blank#}7{#/blank#} love for this traditional art.

It is said that this dance is the most popular in Chaoshan towns such {#blank#}8{#/blank#} Puning and Chaoyang. However, today, people in other countries like Australia and America are also getting interested in it. The Yingge Dance is not only a symbol of Chaoshan {#blank#}9{#/blank#}, but also a belief (信仰). We Chaoshanese believe it will take away the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} things and bring good luck to all of us in the coming year.
