Retrospect(回首往事) is a wonderful thing. It allows you to see what led you here, how you turned into who you are and, hopefully,how society has changed and improved. 

In 1999,I wanted to be a"farmer's wife". Thankfully, after quick correction by my progressive parents, I changed my mind about my job choices.

I had grown up in a football-loving family; my dad played in the Liverpool FC Boys squad until he had to leave because he hurt his leg seriously. My parents' love story began at Anfield, and my older sister Stevie trained with Crewe Alexandra Girls for a year or two as a left back, just like our hero Jamie Carragher.

I remember the exact moment I told my dad I was interested in doing what my big sister did. Iwas watching the game with him in the living room as a pre-teen and it just came out:"It makes me sad I can't be a footballer." He asked why not, and I answered,"Because I'm not a boy." He immediately responded by telling me that women's football was"great"and that I could play if I wanted to."Yeah, I suppose,"I responded,"but no one watches women's football."

As time passed, I began to realize that my dad was right. Women's football was gaining more attention and respect. I started to see female athletes being celebrated and admired, and people were changing the way they thought of women in sports. This change inspired me to stick to my dreamfor football, and I eventually became a professional player. Looking back, I am grateful for the progress that has been made, and I am proud to have been a part of it.

Most people in China know that Confucius（孔子）was a famous thinker and educator in ancient China. However, few people know that he was also an excellent musician, too. He could play many musical instruments, compose（作曲）and sing without {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (difficult). Confucius once learned to play Guqin（古琴）from Shi Xiangzi who was a very famous musician at that time. Shi Xiangzi {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (teach) him a piece of music and told him to practise it by himself. After ten days' hard work, Confucius wouldn't stop {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (practise) the music. The teacher said to him, "You've played it {#blank#}4{#/blank#} well that you may learn something new now." But Confucius thought he hadn't learnt all the skills and couldn't {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (complete) understand the feelings in the music, so he continued to practise it. After some time, Confucius told his teacher happily, "I could imagine {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the composer looked like. He might be a tall and strong leader {#blank#}7{#/blank#} bright and deep eyes. This is the appearance of an Emperor. The composer must be Emperor Wen of the Zhou Dynasty（周文王）,isn't  {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (him)?" Shi Xiangzi was very {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (surprise) to hear that. In fact, the music {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (produce) by Emperor Wen.

A poor farmer had a friend. He was famous (有名的) for the wonderful apple trees he grew.

One day, his friend gave the farmer a young apple tree and told him to plant it. The farmer was happy with the gift, but he did not know where to plant it.

He was afraid that if he planted the tree near the road, someone would steal (偷) the fruit. If he planted he tree in one of his fields, his neighbours (邻居) would come at night and steal some of the apples. If he planted the tree near his house, his children would take the fruit. At last, he planted the tree in his wood. But without sunlight and good soil (土壤), the tree died.

Later the friend asked the farmer why he planted the tree in such a poor place. "What is the difference?" the farmer said angrily and then told what he had thought.

"Yes," said the friend, "but at least someone could have enjoyed the fruit. Now no one can enjoy the fruit. And the apple tree is dead.

When I was in high school, I was in the FIRST Robotics Club. It had {#blank#}1{#/blank#} activities to help students learn about engineering(工程学).

I didn't know what engineering was about,{#blank#}2{#/blank#} I joined the club. My friend Mark {#blank#}3{#/blank#} me to join it, and there I began to learn a lot {#blank#}4{#/blank#} engineering. It is a different way of thinking. It lets students think about how {#blank#}5{#/blank#}a dream come true.

There were about thirty {#blank#}6{#/blank#} in the club and we were in six groups. Once the teacher asked us to make {#blank#}7{#/blank#} own(自己的) robots in a month. At first I thought it was impossible, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} we made it finally and then we took part in the competitions(竞赛). My group won the first prize. It was so {#blank#}9{#/blank#}!

I'm a college student now and I am in some clubs, but I really {#blank#}10{#/blank#} my FIRST Robotics: I think it is the best {#blank#}11{#/blank#}.

Laura is p{#blank#}1{#/blank#} of owning a pair of jelly shoes but she hates the jellyfish. When her brother tells her the shoes are made of jellyfish, she throws her jelly shoes away. However, she changes her mind about the shoes when she sees some s{#blank#}2{#/blank#}, rainbow- like jellyfish babies. She helps to save the jellyfi sh on the sand and she doesn't hate them any more. Instead they look beautiful to her and she likes them. She doesn't get back her shoes, however, even though her brother admits he m{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the story all up. In the end, the shoes are back in the deep sea where she thinks they b{#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

Mr Black is my uncle. He is thirty-three years old and he {#blank#}1{#/blank#}in a hospital. 

From Monday to Friday, Uncle Black {#blank#}2{#/blank#}gets up at 6:00 am and then has breakfast at 6:20 am. He leaves home at seven o'clock in the morning. He lives far{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the hospital and has a car. But he likes to take the subway to go to the hospital and it takes him about forty {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Uncle Black only drives to the hospital on {#blank#}5{#/blank#} days. He sometimes goes to work by bus, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the bus ride is never boring. He can listen to music or play on the phone. 

On weekends, he likes coming to our farm to spend {#blank#}7{#/blank#} time. I always ask my uncle to teach me Chinese because he is good at {#blank#}8{#/blank#}Chinese. We sometimes pick apples{#blank#}9{#/blank#} go swimming after studying. Uncle Black always goes home on Sunday evenings. It is {#blank#}10{#/blank#}five kilometers' drive from his house to our farm.
