A neighbor of mine, while visiting his mother in Boston, took her to a shoe store to buy a new pair of shoes. While she was trying on different styles, my neighbor took the manager（经理）beside him. "When she picks out a pair that she likes,' he said, "just tell her that the price is 12 dollars. I'll pay the regular price. I don't care how much it is.'

The following week, my neighbor was walking by the shoe store and the manager recognized (认出)him and called him in.

"What's the problem?' asked my neighbor as he entered the store.

"Wasn't my check any good?'

"That's not it,' answered the manager, "The problem is that your mother is bringing all her friends in for those 12-dollar shoes!'

I had my first chocolate bar(巧克力条) at five years old. I'll never forget the delicious, comforting taste. It was World War Ⅱ. I lived with my family in the Lithuanian town of Taurage.

One day, I ran away from Taurage and took a train to Hamburg alone. I lived on the streets, like thousands of other children in the city. I stole(偷)food for a living. Still, there was never enough.

Then the American army arrived. They looked so big and healthy. Stealing food from them wasn't easy. I'd go into the dining hall quietly, hide under a table and leave with some fresh bread.

One afternoon as I waited around a dining hall secretly to look for food, a huge hand lifted me up.by the collar. An American soldier. "Got you!" he shouted.

I was scared, and I could see it upset him. "It's okay, kid," he said. He reached into his jacket and handed me a chocolate bar. "Here, have some of this." I just took a small bite of it. I thought I'd gone to heaven.

The soldier took me and some other homeless children to an orphanage (孤儿院) run by the Red Cross. Four years later I was sent to an orphanage in Seattle, America. Soon after, I lived with an American family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Again, as with that first taste of chocolate, it was as if I'd gone to heaven. Later, I joined the army, and then attended college. Finally, I got a master's degree in clinical(临床的) social work. I want to pay back all the people who were so good to me.

In 1983 I went to work for the Department of Veteran Affairs as a clinical counselor(顾问),treating the troubled soldiers who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder(创伤后精神紧张性障碍).

The troubled soldiers sit in my office and wonder how I can possibly understand them or help ease their pain. That is when I tell them my story, and about the soldier who saved my life.

"I never did learn his name, but I remember his kindness," I say. And then I open a drawer in my desk that is always full and offer them some chocolate.

Hello, everyone. My name is Jack Brown. I'm 35 years old and I'm from America. I like basketball, football and swimming. But football is my favourite sport, and I can play it very well. I like cooking, too. 

I have two daughters and they are now at St. Paul's School. I work at the school, too. But I'm not a teacher there. What do I do? I'm a cook. I cook lunch for the students there. 

I think it's important to eat the right food and be healthy, so I don't cook food like hamburgers for the students. I cook healthy and delicious food for them. It's not easy to make all the students like the food, but I do what I can do to make the lunch delicious. Many students say that they like the food. I'm really happy about that. 

Everyone knows that exercise is important. We all need to exercise. Doctors say it's good for us. It keeps body strong. 

When the daytime comes, we must get up. This is the time for exercise. Exercise means doing sports or other physical activities to stay healthy. There're many ways to exercise. You can walk, run, swim, skate or play ball games. Make sure you exercise in the following ways:You should like what you're doing. Exercise enough but not too much. It's good to exercise twice each week. Thirty minutes each time is enough. Try all kinds of things until you find one, two or three sports that you feel right for you. 

Exercising can be fun. Friends can exercise together at a fitness center, or they can play sports together. How do you exercise?

Last Sunday, my friends and I went on an adventure with the Hiking Club. The night before, I was so {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(excite) that I could not sleep! I got up really early on Sunday morning. After breakfast, I packed my lunch and left home {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(quick). I{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(hurry) to school and met the other students and Mr Li, our trip leader. When we were all there, we left for Lucky Island. 

The boat ride to Lucky Island was really exciting! We saw a lot of fish and colourful{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(bird). When we got to Lucky Island, we went on a long walk and saw some pretty flowers.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} we walked for a while, we were very hungry! We sat on the beach and ate our lunch. After that, we played games and{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(take) photos. I really enjoyed{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(me). Finally, it was time {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(go) home. What {#blank#}9{#/blank#} wonderful experience! Next Sunday, we will climb (爬) Stone Mountain with the Hiking Club. I can't wait {#blank#}10{#/blank#} my next adventure!

Communication (沟通) is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it's hard for you to communicate with your parents, don't worry about it. Here is some advice for you.

Don't argue (争吵) with your parents. Don't try to talk about anything with your parents when you are angry. Your parents may not think about your ideas if you shout (大声叫喊) at them. Stop talking and go somewhere else to cool    off. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you think you can't speak to them at that time, write a letter to them.

Try to understand (理解) your parents. Your parents may think differently from you. Tell your parents what you think, what you care about and why, and you may find a better way out. Michael's mother didn't agree with him about buying a motorbike. She thought driving it would waste too much time. But Michael didn't think so. They argued over it. They understood each other after they had a talk. At last, Michael bought the motorbike, but only drove it on some days.

It's also important to show your love and respect (尊重) to your parents. Try to do some small things, like making them a cup of tea, helping do some housework and so on. Also speaking to them politely shows your respect.

These can help keep your relationship closer. A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. Let's have a try.
