When I was a teenager, my parents were never interested in the music I liked. They always said to me,"David, the music you listen to is noisy. Why do you like listening to it so much?" At the same time, they described the music that they liked as"beautiful".
In fact, they are not the only ones who have this opinion. As I' ve grown older, I' ve often heard my friends say, "Today's music is terrible." Many older people just don't like new music. But why is that?
The exposure effect(曝光效应) may explain this. It means the more familiar(熟悉的) we are with something, the more probably we will like it. When we are in our early teens, we usually spend a lot of time listening to popular music and discussing it with our friends. We come to understand the new songs and artists during this time really well. After we become 30 years old, we are busy working and raising our families. We don't have much time to look for new music. Instead, we like to listen to our old favorite songs that bring us back to our happy and simple days. According to studies, when we are 33 years old, most of us will completely stop exploring new music.
But I think there is another reason why older people dislike new music. Most popular music, after all, is not written for them. It is made for young people. Some kinds of music began by young people as ways to fight against out-of-date things. These kinds include punk, rap, hip-hop, heavy metal and more. Younger people love them naturally.

I'm from the UK. At my school, sports can be very relaxing. You don't have to go to a 40-minute class each week. Instead, we get to pick when we want to play sports. Also, there is a great number of sports to choose from, so everyone can find something they enjoy. We can take lessons in swimming, rock climbing, dancing, soccer and badminton.We don't have exams for sports☺ . At my school, we have a few units (单元) about sports and exercise to learn about. During each unit, we practice key skills for the sport. For example, for basketball, we practice passing and shooting. At the end of each unit, we have a test. For tennis, we spend the whole unit passing the ball to each other. Be prepared to sacrifice (牺牲) space. Your child will need work space for his or her hobby projects. Choose a special room, a corner of the basement (地下室), part of the garage, or a similar area. No matter where you set up the space, your child should be able to walk away from the hobby and come back to it later. |
Provide some guidance. Nothing will kill a child's love for a hobby quicker than lots of frustration (挫折) during the learning stage. Help your child get off to a good start by showing him or her clearly how to closely follow a set of directions. |
Limit television watching. It's impossible to work on a hobby and watch TV (or play video games) at the same time. For want of spare time, a hobby may never be developed. But find a hobby, a talent may be born, and life may be enriched (充实) by it, too. |
China Tai Chi Culture World Tour On Saturday, August 20, a team of Chinese Tai Chi masters started their tour to the United States. They are going there to promote (提升) Chinese Tai Chi culture to overseas Chinese and American Kung Fu fans. They will stay there for two weeks. Led by Chen Zhenglei, a famous Chinese Tai Chi master, other five masters, are included in the group. Some of them are the champions of Tai Chi competition both at home and abroad. "Tai Chi is a national treasure of China that has a deep and long history, and practicing it is good for both body and mind," Chen said at the opening ceremony(开幕式) of the China Tai Chi Culture World Tour. Activities for the tour： ★A lecture on Tai Chi on Sunday at Stanford University. ★Training courses for Tai Chi fans and lovers in the United States, ★Guiding personal skills about how to best practice Tai Chi.
