Ghosts of our loved ones

Many people think things like ghosts and death are scary. But in fact, we just had a festival celebrating these things.

Every year, on the 15th day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar, we celebrate Zhongyuan Festival, or Ghost Festival. It is on August 30th this year. On this day, families light lanterns to help dead people find their way home. But at the same time, living people don't want to stay out at night during Ghost Festival. They believe ghosts may hurt them.

Ghost Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day, or Qingming Festival are both holidays that honor the dead. During Ghost Festival, the spirits of all dead people are honored. But we only honor our dead family members at Qingming. People believe the spirits of the dead would come back to Earth during Ghost Festival, but not during Qingming.

In Chinese culture, death is a scary and heavy thing. People are mostly afraid of it. But in some other cultures, death is a less gloomy（阴郁的） thing. 

In the US, people remember the dead on Halloween. But they make it a fun festival. People wear scary clothes. Children do fun things, like trick-or-treating.

In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is a time for the living to connect with the dead. They make dolls of the dead and tell stories about them. There are also parties at night. Whether you like it or not, death is apart of life. Understanding death can help us cherish(珍惜) our time here and live best lives.

I'm Lucy from New York. But now I'm in Beijing with my parents. They are doctors and they love their jobs. I am a student and I love my school, too. School is a good place for me. I can do many things there.

I can learn a lot at school. I learn Chinese, math, science and English every day. Also, I can have fun at school. I often listen to music with my classmates. Sometimes, I talk about favorite movies and TV shows with them.

But sometimes I am not happy at school because there are too many activities and they always make me tired.

 School is like my second family, and my classmates are like my brothers and sisters. The school is really a big and happy family.

Bruce has a great family. There are five people in his family. He 1 with his parents and grandparents in a big house in Guangzhou.

On weekdays, his parents go to work. They need to get up 2 in the morning, at about 6：15 a. m. 

They get to their 3 at about 8 o'clock. On weekends, his parents don't need to work. They get up at about 9 o'clock. His father brushes teeth first and his mother cooks 4 . She makes tea, milk, eggs and bread.

Bruce's father likes 5 newspapers at home. He thinks he can learn a lot from them. Bruce's mother enjoys going shopping with Bruce's grandparents. She has a 6 . 

She usually drives them to supermarkets. They often 7 some cakes, fruit and vegetables there.

Bruce is one of the best students in his class. He usually does some reading in the morning. 

He thinks it is 8 for his study. What's more, he is 9 . He often helps his classmates with their study. On the weekend, he plays ping­pong with his friends 10 . That's his favourite sport.

Taiyuan Luogu is a national intangible cultural heritage(国家级非物质文化遗产) with a history of around 1,000 years. It's widely used in weddings (婚礼) and at traditional {#blank#}1{#/blank#}to bring good luck.

Taiyuan Luog u is popular in the countryside. Many {#blank#}2{#/blank#}people are good at it. A woman named Niu Gaixian in Xiaozhanying Village in Taiyuan is one of them. Now she's a city- level inheritor(市级传承人) of this form of art. Every time she and her team members have their Taiyuan Luog u shows, the village will soon become {#blank#}3{#/blank#}.

In 1990, Niu met Han Qixiang, a national- level inheritor of Taiyuan Luogu, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}became his student. Since then, practicing playing Taiyuan Luog u has become part of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}everyday life.

" Mr. Han had a great influence{#blank#}6{#/blank#} me. He asked me to learn more about traditional culture, not only of Shanxi, but also across the country," said Niu Gaixian.

In 2003, Niu Gaixian set up her own Taiyuan Luog u team. To avoid {#blank#}7{#/blank#}mistakes while they are giving performances, she and her team members practice again and again. They always practice {#blank#}8{#/blank#} even in the hot summer.

In April 2018, Niu Gaixian and her team were invited to join in an international drum culture festival in Africa. After they{#blank#}9{#/blank#} their performances, they were cheered by the crowd.

Niu Gaixian hopes that more and more people can {#blank#}10{#/blank#}about this kind of traditional art.

In a heartwarming event（事件） that shows the power of human connection, a woman's act of kindness saved the life of a 1 man.

During a break between classes, Casey Fischer stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a coffee. It was there that she saw a man 2 change by the roadside. Later, she watched him walk into Dunkin, counting his change to see what he could buy.

Casey went over to talk to him and learned that he had only about $1 in change. Touched by his 3 situation, she bought him a 4 and a cake and invited him to sit with her. He told her that he lost his family in an accident and how people are usually 5 to him because he's homeless. They talked for about a（n） 6 , drinking their coffees.

After realizing that Casey needed to go back to class, the man, named Chris, asked her to wait so he could 7 things for her. Handing Casey a note with an apology（道歉） for his 8 handwriting, he smiled and left.

Upon opening the note, Casey read his sincere message: "I wanted to end my life today, but because of you, I now have 9 . Thank you, beautiful person."

Casey's simple actions of buying food and chatting with Chris gave him what he 10 most. It shows that we can all do something nice for others. Let's be encouraged by Casey and be kind to those around us.

 Once upon a time, the colors of the world started to argue. All said that they were the best, the most useful, and the most beautiful. 

 Green said, "Clearly I'm the most important. As the sign of life and hope, I'm chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all the animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see me almost everywhere. "

 Blue interrupted(打断), "You only think about the earth, but consider the blue sky and the blue sea. The sky gives space and peace. Water of life comes from the deep sea. Without my peace, you would all be nothing. "

 Suddenly a rainstorm started to pour down heavily. All the colors calmed down. "You are foolish colors, " Rain began to speak. "Don't you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me. "

 Doing as they were told, the colors joined hands. Rain continued, "From now on, when it rains, each of you will make up a rainbow in the sky to remind that you can all live in peace. "

 The rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow. It always lets us remember to thank one another.
