Once a tortoise (乌龟) and two swans (天鹅) lived on a lake. They were very good friends. They spent many hours happily together.

Unluckily, there was no rain that year. The lake became dry. So they had to leave the lake to search for another lake to live.

The two swans could fly easily, but it was difficult for the tortoise. The three of them began to wonder, and they didn't know what to do next.

At last, the two swans had an idea. They said to the tortoise, "We will place a stick in your mouth. We will carry the stick in our beaks (鸟嘴) on either side. This will make us fly together. But remember, you must not open your mouth. If you do, you know what will happen to you."

The tortoise was sad to leave the lake, but it agreed to the idea happily.

One fine morning, they were flying over a large town. The people of the town were surprised at what they saw in the sky. They were very curious about it and started shouting excitedly.

The tortoise heard the noise and wondered what it was about. It forgot its promise and opened its mouth to ask curiously, "Why is there…? Ah…!"

Sadly, down fell the tortoise, and died.

The swans had no chance to save it. They were sad to lose their best friend but had to fly away and start their new life.

William grew up in a poor family in Africa. His family lived in a village with no 1 . At night, they used oil lamps for light. However, oil was too expensive for his parents to afford. 

William wanted to 2 life there but he had no idea how to realize it. One day, he read a book on how to turn wind into electricity with a windmill.

Then he started to make the windmill. The moment his farm work finished in the fields, he threw himself on studying the materials, staying 6 till midnight. Finally, he made it after many 7 . He fixed the windmill on the top of a wood tower to catch wind. The villagers came to look. A long wire was used to connect to a bulb to the windmill. The wind blew and the windmill 8 . To their amazement, the bulb lit up. The villagers cheered. William threw his hands in the air and jumped 9 . To produce more energy, he built another windmill for his village. 

Bored into poverty, William didn't give up in the face of difficulties. He kept reading, taught himself and lit up the whole 10 .

There are a lot of museums in the world. A museum has many important objects related to (有关联) science, culture, or history.

One day, little Mike's mother went to the river to do some washing. Before she left, she said to him, "Mike, while I am away, stay near the door and watch it all the time!" She said this because she was afraid of the thieves. 

Mike sat down beside the door. After an hour, one of his uncles came. He asked Mike, "Where is your mother?" "She has gone to the river to do some washing, " Mike answered. "Well, " said his uncle, "Now it is a quarter to two. Three hours later we are going to visit your family. Go and tell your mother. For I'm busy, I have to go now. "

After his uncle had gone away, Mike began to think: "Mother had asked me to watch the door all the time and my uncle told me to go and tell my mother. "What shall I do?" he thought and thought. Finally, he pulled down the door, put it on his back and went to the river with it. 

The oil paper umbrella is a traditional Chinese handicraft(手工艺品). It has a history of over1, 000 years in China. In early Tang Dynasty, it was introduced to Japan and Korea, so it was called the "Tang Umbrella". Later oil paper umbrellas were spread to other Asian countries, such as Vietnam, Thailand and Laos. 

Yuhang in Hangzhou is famous for making oil paper umbrellas for more than 230 years. They are mainly made of skin paper, bamboo, and a coating of tung oil(桐油). It takes more than 70 steps to make them, including making bamboo ribs, pasting paper and painting patterns. It takes at least a week to make an umbrella. In 2008, these umbrellas were added to Intangible Cultural Heritage List(非物质文化遗产名录)of China

A young man called Liu Weixue learned the traditional art of making Yuhang oil paper umbrellas from his grandfather. He improved the umbrellas to win the heart of young people. As the traditional paper was easy to break, he started to use a different kind of paper. In a test, his umbrellas were opened and closed for 1, 000 times without breaking. He also used a different kind of bamboo to make the umbrellas weigh less. 

Now Liu hopes the art can be passed on, so he goes to local schools to teach students. He also takes part in lots of activities in different places to make the art be known to more people.
