①We usually think that garbage is dirty and useless. However, an art exhibition(展览) in 2022 proves that "useless" things can actually be helpful. 

②Dear Pretty Rubbish, an art event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWFN) and digital media art company Blackbow, was held in Beijing. It asked questions about the relationship between our lifestyles and our garbage. 

③"We hope that everyone who visited the show can think about how 'useless things' are produced, why they are tossed out and whether 'useless things' are really useless. " said Cao Yujia, the design director at Blackbow. 

④The organizers said that all the raw materials for the exhibition were collected from community garbage cans. 

⑤Artists Zhou Yuxuan and Liu Yifan collected nylon cable ties (尼龙扎带), LED lights and drink bottles from designers' workshops to create a work where plastics, in the shape of cells, "grow" in a corner. There, the lights blink (闪烁) to imitate (模仿) "breathing". When people walk near it, the work forms light patterns, as if communicating with the visitors. Speaking about the work, Zhou said, "It's like some kind of communication between humans and plastics. "

⑥Plastic has a life longer than almost any creature, taking centuries to break down. Though people blame plastics for damage (伤害) to the environment, they are a big part of our daily lives. 

⑦"So we want to ask the question: Although the damage continues, is there a way for humans to reconcile (和解) with plastics?" said Zhou. 

In her house, Zhang Rong, a mother of a first-year primary school boy, spends hours every day reading many children's books one by one and 1 dividing them into groups. 

2 mother has noticed a great need for used children's books among parents. So, she started her own company3 secondhand books. 

" Children need to read a lot of books, but4 you buy them all it will add up to a large expense (费用). I hope more parents can afford picture books for5 children and the price won't be high, " Zhang said. "A new picture book can cost6 than 100 yuan, while a secondhand one is usually 20 percent of that price. "

She often looks online and in stores for used books to give to her son and his friends, but it is not easy to find high-quality books. She sometimes7 friends in the United States to help buy picture books for children. 

" When I studied in Philadelphia, secondhand bookstores8 everywhere. 

They are now appearing in some9 in China, and people are fond of secondhand books, " she said. 

More and more parents ask her for advice on choosing used picture books, so she knows about their needs. "English-language picture books are very popular10 parents in China because they can help children learn English, " Zhang said. 

Once upon a time, a wise Greek man named Thales came to Egypt. Thales was good at maths. He also loved solving puzzles and finding out how things worked. One day, he visited the Great Pyramid. It was the tallest building he had ever seen. After enjoying its beauty, he wondered how tall the pyramid was. He asked the locals, but nobody knew.

So, Thales waited patiently until the sun was just right. He stood next to the pyramid and measured his own shadow. Then, he measured the pyramid's shadow. Thales was about 6 feet tall, and his shadow was 2 feet long. The ratio(比例) was 3:1. The pyramid's shadow was much longer, about 120 feet. Thales realized that the pyramid's height equals 120 multiplied by 3.

Finally, at lunchtime, Thales declared the Great Pyramid's height—____ feet. Everyone was amazed. Thales used his wisdom to solve the puzzle.

Sue is a wonderful person with a kind heart. Since 2017, she1 disabled (残疾的) dogs through a project called Saving Dogs, Thanks to2 , the dogs have a hopeful future. 

Sue takes care of 560 dogs in a special shelter (庇护所). Most of the dogs3 because of disabilities. When people ask Sue4 she wants to help the disabled dogs, she explains that her father is also disabled and it encourages her to care for them. 

 Life at the shelter is happy for the dogs, But they5 only sit in the wheelchairs (轮椅) because they have diffculty walking. Recently, Sue got an idea6 their lives happier. She connected some barrels (水桶) together to build7 train for the dogs. In this way, they could ride around freely. The dogs looked so8 when they roole in the train. The villagers also enjoyed seeing the smiles9 their faces. " I was happy when I made it, " Sue said. 

"Taking care of these dogs is not easy, 10 seeing their happy faces makes it all worth. I know how much they need it, " Sue said.
