Dear Ms Rice, 

My brother Dave is 11 and I am 4 years older. He and I always get into fights. Whenever he does something wrong like hitting me or making my room dirty, he never gets into trouble. He doesn't even have to say sorry to me. But when I do these, my parents always ask me to say sorry. It's so unfair!

I tried talking to my parents about this and all they said was that they would change. However, they never did anything. Sometimes I talk with my friends on the computer, but my parents only allow me to use the computer for 30 minutes every time. Dave can use it for three hours. 

I talked to my friends about this. They advised me to talk to Dave and be nice to him. I tried but it didn't work. Dave made my life terrible! My dream is that my brother and my parents could understand me. What should I do for that?

Till now I can't forget that day. It was a cold snowy morning after the winter {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (假期). I got up early and went to a new school. It is the most famous one {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (在……之中) middle schools in New York. I was walking alone slowly and worried about lots of things because it was the first time for me to stay {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (在国外). It was early and there were no other people on the road, so it was {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (寂静) outside. 

Suddenly a girl on her bike got into trouble. She fell off the bike and tried hard to get up but she {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(未能达到) Without thinking, I went over and helped her. She said "thank you" with a smile and then rode away. Her words warmed me a lot. 

Finally, I got to school. The teacher introduced me to the {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(整个；全部) class Then he asked me to sit beside a girl. I felt so nervous that I didn't look at her. Soon the bell {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (响铃) for the firs class. Their textbooks were different from those at my old school. While I was {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(考虑;斟酌) asking the teacher for help, an English book appeared in front of me. "Let's share. " To my surprise, it was the girl I helped that morning. Later on, we became good friends. 

From that I learnt: To help others is actually to help {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(我们自己). Life teaches us not only {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (知识) but also experience. I hope I will always help others in my life. 

A long time ago, there lived a king. Every year, he would spend a lot of   money building his palace. One day, the king had a new1 and he said to his men, " This year, I will build the best2 in the world. It should be praised within my kingdom, and by the people of neighboring states. "

After building his palace, the king 3 noblemen (贵 族 ) from his kingdom, as well as from neighboring states to come. And he asked them to give their 4 about the palace. 

" Unbelievable! It is the most beautiful palace. " the noblemen said. But one man who looked young stood in the corner. He 5 said anything. 

The king wanted to know why the man was 6 when someone else was praising his palace. He walked up to the man and asked, " Hello, young man. You keep silent. Is there anything wrong with my palace?" The man smiled and replied in a calm voice, " Your Majesty! Your palace is strong and will 7 hundreds of years or even longer. It is beautiful but not perfect. Many of your people are still leading a8 life, though your palace looks wonderful. Because of that, I am silent. "

The king listened to the young man's opinion quietly. Then he thanked the wise man for his honest words and 9 he would never try to rebuild his palace again. Instead, he used the money to 10 the people in need. 

I used to be very shy, so I usually just listened to other people's conversations. My teacher Mrs. Smith always encouraged me to communicate with others.

 One day, she told us that our class would put on a play she had written. "I need someone to play the lead role. Does anyone want to try?" she asked. A few excited hands were raised up— mine wasn't one of them. Mrs. Smith walked up to me and said," I think you' re perfect for it."

Me, the lead? Mrs. Smith continued," I was thinking of you for the role when I wrote the play!" Suddenly, I thought it was time to throw away my shyness and show the world who I really was. I looked at Mrs. Smith and said," OK, I'll try."

After five months of practicing, the big day finally arrived. I felt so nervous. My knees shook and my heart beat like I'd just run a mile." It doesn't matter how you do tonight," said Mrs. Smith, as if reading my thoughts." You've already shown yourself how wonderful you are. That's the most important thing for you."

Mrs. Smith was right. When I stepped on the stage(舞台), I showed that I could take chances(机会) and be brave enough to make a big change for myself — a girl with new- found confidence(信心). I thanked Mrs. Smith a lot. She helped me to change by encouraging me to act the lead role of the play. It was a great experience and I'll never forget it.
