There is a little dog living with his mother. His mother makes dinner for him and the little dog often does some things to help her. One day, the little dog sees a pumpkin (南瓜). He wants to take it home, but it is too big and heavy . The little dog can't carry it at first.

At that time, the little dog sees the boys playing football. He looks at the boys' football. He says, "____▲____ I can roll(滚动) the pumpkin. It's like a all."

So the little dog rolls the pumpkin easily. It's like an interesting game for him. At last. He rolls the pumpkin to his home. His mother says in surprise, "Oh, dear! How can you do that? The pumpkin is so big!" The little dog says happily, "I can't carry it, but I can roll it." His mother says, "What a good boy. You are really good at thinking. I'm so happy about that."

When you study, the first thing to consider is whether you understand the information, and the second is how you will remember it. Some of you probably think you know all about that, right? After all, you have been studying for years. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}The advice is for all of you. 

First of all, have a plan. You can make a plan for a week or for a longer time. If you' re studying for an important exam, you should make a long-term plan. And you need to check if it works from time to time. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Next, think about your environment. Make sure the place for studying is comfortable with enough light and fresh air, not too hot or too cold. If you think you do it better with music, you can put some music on and see if it's true. Some people work better with music playing. But for many people, it can make it harder to concentrate (集中注意力). 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}You can plan your study time in periods ( 时 间 段 ) with breaks in between. Some Experts recommend ( 推 荐 ) you to take a10-minute break after 30 minutes of studying. If you study for too long without a break, your mind won't work as well as before. During your short break, you can treat yourself to something like green tea, but I wouldn't suggest chocolate because sugar can make it harder to concentrate. 

Finally, think about what you do when you' re studying. Some people just read through their books and mark important parts with a pencil. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} However, I suggest writing notes while studying because it helps your mind process(处理) the information better!

When Emily Cummins was a teenager, her grandfather had an illness — a lot of pain in his hands and fingers. One day, Emily saw that he had difficulty getting toothpaste(牙膏) out of the tube(管). She made an invention that helped him with this, and won the Young Engineer for Britain Award for her toothpaste dispenser(自动取物器). 

A few years later, Emily learnt that some African countries are short of water. The women and children there often walk many kilometres a day to get water for their villages. They usually put the buckets(桶) on their heads. They have to walk carefully so as not to waste the water. Emily's invention is a simple water carrier. It makes it possible for the women to transport up to five buckets of water each time. 

Her latest project is a simple fridge that runs without electricity, but only needs the energy that comes from the sun. There are now thousands of families in villages in Zambia, Namibia and South Africa who use it. 

Emily has already won several prizes for her inventions and was named one of the world's top ten young people. And Emily often visits schools and talks to teenagers. She wants to encourage them to come up with new ideas that make the world a better place.

International Day of Families

The International Day of Families is celebrated on May 15 every year. It is to raise people's attention to the happiness and progress of the family. To celebrate the 30th International Family

Day this year, Family Center will hold some family activities. 

Activities for the family:
☆ Family sports. 

☆Reading a letter to your family. 

☆A cooking competition among families. 

Time: 9:00 a. m. -5:00 p. m. , on May 15th

Place: on the South International Square

Prize:  first prize-a five-day foreign tour

second prize-a seven-day domestic(国内的)tour 
third prize-a four-day domestic tour

Rules:

Each family can choose two or three kinds of activities. When you sign up(报名), you should make a decision. All the letters must be written by families themselves. They will not be returned, so please keep a copy. Don't be late, or you'll not be allowed to take part in these activities. Families who want to take part in the activities must hand in their application forms(申请表)before May 5th or you can call 2877-2197 to sign up before May 10th. And we will provide breakfast and lunch.

What colour is the sea? It's blue. What colour is the grass? It's green. What colour are the strawberries? They're red. Everything in the world has its colour. Our art teacher tells us that red, blue and green are three primary colours (三原色) if we put red and green together, we can get yellow; if we put red and blue together, we can get purple. We all live in a colourful world.

Different colours can give us different feelings and different colours have different meanings. The same colour also has different meanings in different places. In China, people like red very much because we think red can bring good luck (好运) to us. But in some European countries, it means anger (愤怒). In most countries in the world, people like green, but people from England and Japan don't like it. In Australia, people think that black cats can bring them good luck, but in America, people think the white cat is a lucky cat.
