In China, students go to school in many ways. Some students go by bus, some go by bike and some walk to school. Do you know how Japanese students usually go to school?

In the city, students usually go to school near their homes, so many students walk to school. It usually takes them 10 to 20 minutes to get to school. But in the village, schools are usually far from students' homes. It usually takes them 40 minutes to an hour to walk to school. Many students in the village go to school by train, because the train goes quickly and doesn't need much time.

Many Japanese schools are small but nice. And students seldom(很少) take the school bus. Parents also seldom drive their children to and from school. Sometimes children walk to school with their friends living near them. To make sure of their security, some kind people will help children cross the road when there are lots of cars on the road.

You want to know about my stay in the UK, right? Well, to tell you the truth, it is really 1 fantastic experience to study here. I came to Woodpark School in London two months ago. Since then, I 2 in this school. I find that school life in the UK is very different from that in China.

In China, the first lesson begins at about eight o' clock and there are 3 lessons a day. The first lesson in the UK begins an hour 4 than that in China. Before the first lesson, students all wait in a special classroom. Then a teacher calls the roll(点名) to check if 5 has arrived on time. After that, students change classrooms. Everybody has his or her own course schedule. They go to different classrooms for different lessons instead of 6 in the same classroom. For example, if one's first lesson is Maths, he or she should go to the classroom for Maths.

Besides languages, Science, art, British students learn many 7 courses such as cooking and gardening at school. The boy in my host family once cooked Chinese soup for me. It really surprised me because it tasted as 8 as what my mum cooked.

How time flies! I have been in the UK 9 two months. I will study here fo another month. I am sure I 10 find out more differences in the future. Believe me!

September is usually the start of a new season-but what you call that season depends on where you are and whom you ask. In the UK, people will tell you it's "autumn". However, cross the Atlantic and you'll find that people use "fall" and "autumn" when talking about this time of year. In the English language, the season has two widely accepted names. Why does it have to be so confusing(令人迷惑的)?

Before either of the two words appeared in the dictionary, the seasons dividing the cold and warm months didn't have common names. The main thing people did during the pre-winter time was gathering crops, so it was called "harvest" in Old English. 

Then, in the 1600s, more and more people left farms and moved into cities. Without farming, the word "harvest" became less useful to people in cities. Some English speakers needed a different name for the season. They knew leaves fell from trees during that season, so people called the season "the fall of the leaf". or "fall" for short. But by the end of the 1600s, "autumn", from the French word "autompne" and the Latin word "autumnus", was introduced in England and took the place of the word "fall" as the expression for the harvesting season. 

At the same time, British people were making their first trips to North America. They brought the words "fall" and "autumn" with them. Today, using both words to describe the season is a very American thing. 

More than ten years ago, I finished my studies in college. I dreamed of having a job in publishing(出版业). I went for {#blank#}1{#/blank#} interview in a publishing company. I thought it would be a{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (successful). However, I failed. 

Five years passed. I was working as a copywriter, and my job was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (write) a lot of marketing emails. I always worked hard. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} the same time, I never stopped doing some reading and practice about {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (published). I still wished for my lucky break(机遇). 

On a Sunday evening, when I was searching a job website, I noticed that a company {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (need) a magazine editor. Not only did the job sound {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (amaze), but it was for the same publishing company that I went to for an interview before. I decided to h another try. I went for an interview, answered every question {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (perfect) and succeeded in getting the job. 

During those years, I've been thinking about a question: {#blank#}9{#/blank#} did I get the job at last? When I didn't pass the interview, I was upset, and never thought I could return to the company five years later. However, I just never wanted to give up, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I kept working towards my dream. All my hard work was meaningful, wasn't it?

The Chinese pingfeng (folding screen) is an ancient invention and traditional Chinese furniture(家具). Its earliest common use dates from the Han Dynasty. The term pingfeng means protection from wind. showing its purpose at the very beginning. 

As time passes, it has been made into different sizes with colourful paintings. On screens usually appears a dragon. It's a symbol of light, growth and life-giving water. It also stands for nobility and power. The peacock, a beautiful bird, can be seen on screens, too. It's a symbol of everlasting life. Beautiful flowers, which mean wealth and good luck, are also chosen as a popular design of the pingfeng. All the designs carry people's beautiful wishes. 

Behind the pingfeng lies an interesting story. In the past the unmarried daughter of a rich family was not supposed to see or be seen by men except her father, brothers or very close male cousins. When an admirer paid a visit, however, she might take a secret look at him from a screen behind which she would be completely hidden. Her father would discuss poems with the young man and ask him to create one. If the daughter and her father were satisfied with the young man's poem and his looks, she might agree to take him as a husband. 

Today the pingfeng is back in fashion for its beauty and its practical(实际的) use as furniture. Acting as a moving wall or divider, it can be the perfect match(相配) for modern sofas and walls, which adds style to them. 

The pingfeng is more than beautiful furniture. 

China keeps the same time over all the seasons in a year. But it's different in many countries, like the UK and Germany. 

These countries have summer time and winter time. In March, they set (设置) their clocks one hour forward (往前), However, in October or November, they set their clocks one hour back. 

In the Northern Hemisphere (北半球), after March 23, days slowly become longer and the sun comes out earlier. During that time, if people wake up earlier, they can use more sunlight (阳光). It saves electricity (电). In the winter, however, they can sleep more in the morning to save electricity. 

People working in cinemas dislike setting the clock. They say that when people get more sunlight, they don't want to go to dark cinemas. But baseball lovers like it. When they are in summer time, they can play for a longer time because there is more sunlight.
