Tom and Jerry

    Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse are two of the most popular cartoon characters in the world. In the short cartoons, Tom is always trying to catch Jerry, but he never has any success. Almost every cartoon ends with Tom in trouble and Jerry laughing at him. The stories are full of fun and have a long history.

    William Hanna and Joseph Barbera both worked for MGM in the late 1930s. Their boss told them to make funny cartoons. Together they thought of the idea of a cat and a mouse. They thought it would be funny if the mouse was clever and always got the cat into trouble.

    The first Tom and Jerry cartoon was shown in cinemas in 1940. It was a great success. Over the next 17 years, they made many Tom and Jerry cartoons. Most of them are around seven minutes long.

    In total, Hanna and Barbera made 114 Tom and Jerry cartoons. The cartoons were so good that they won a number of awards. The famous cat and mouse remain popular today, as the cartoons are still shown on television around the world.

Amy is the most popular girl in our school. She is not only  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(秀丽的;标致的),but also very smart. When there is a competition (竞赛) that needs us to make teams, everyone wants to be with her. But she always

Last week our school held a competition. It was about making money for poor people. "Why don't we make cookies by ourselves and then sell them to make money?" Amy said. The idea  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(听起来) great. Although we never cooked before, we still decided to have a  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(尝 试). We searched for information about how to make  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(美味的) cookies on the Internet. Then we followed the steps to work. When everything was 

{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (做完的), we waited nervously for the cookies. Guess what? The cookies  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(有……的气味) good and tasted yummy!

We not only sold our cookies to our neighbours, but also went to sell them to {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(陌生人) in downtown. In the end we made the most money and won a medal(奖章). We were so  {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(感到自豪的) of ourselves!

This winter holiday, I have a wonderful trip in Jilin. We even managed to make a micro film （微电影）there. The experience was so happy that I cannot wait to1 it with you. 

We arrived in Changchun （长春）in the evening. With snow and ice everywhere, we suddenly realized that we had come to a kingdom of snow! It made us all2 . 

However, we came to Jilin not only for sightseeing. We had an important mission—to take a short film! Every one of us needed to be the host or hostess of one part of the film. 

When we visited the Rime Island, It was my turn to be the hostess. At last, I was very nervous when facing the camera. I took a deep breath and looked around. The trees covered with magic rime, white snow and crystal ice, and the happy crowd immediately made me relax. I3 finish my hosting task. 

Have this picture in your mind: you lie down on the soft snow, with the white coated trees around you. Your4 is filled with snow. It is pure and quiet. All your worries and sorrows will be gone. 

Nowadays, the pace of life in modern cities is getting faster and faster. But why not5 down and enjoy the magic of nature?

This trip brought something new to me. I learned how a film is made; I learned how important teamwork is; I6 understood how to enjoy life. 

Travelling is a good thing that can broaden our horizons and improve our abilities. When enjoying the pleasure of travelling, you are also learning something beneficial for your future life. 

A long time ago, there lived a wise man named Zun-Nun in Egypt. A young man came to visit him and asked, "Teacher, why do you dress in1 a way? Nowadays it's necessary to dress neatly(整洁地), isn't it? Or how will people know you're really a 2 and wise man?"

Alena is from Texas. She dreamed of becoming an engineer at the age of 16 when she was 12 years old. It may sound impossible, but Alena is not a common girl. She's both clever and hard-working. She is now studying engineering at her dream university. She would love to build a rover (探测器) to go to space. 

Believe it or not, the story started with Lego (乐高) . At the age of4, Alena loved playing around with different kinds of Lego and showed great love for building things. Little Alena loved to look at the stars at night. Once, she said seriously, "Mom, I'm going to work for NASA. I'm going to travel to space in a rocket. " Her mom was surprised at the little girl's dream. She couldn't believe what she heard. 

Alena is planning to write a book for children. "I' d like to ask more girls to follow their dreams, " she said. 

Alena won't let anything stop her working hard for her dreams. "When I plan to do something, I just go for it, " she said.
