Justin was so good at basketball that he could beat any of the older guys at the court, and the younger guys didn't have any chances. But one day everything changed. When Justin was shooting around at the local court, some guys from another neighborhood appeared before him. The biggest one said that he had heard that Justin was the best and he wanted to see if it was true. Justin didn't want to play. But his cousin begged," Come on, Justin, beat this guy!" Justin decided to do what his cousin wanted.

Just as Justin was going to win, the big guy knocked him down hard. Justin broke his right leg. The doctor said he might never play basketball again.

During the first six weeks, Justin just lay in bed with his leg in a long cast. He watched TV all day and ate one bag of potato chips after another. Justinblew up like a balloon as he watched his future fade away as a basketball player.

Then Justin's sister Kiki came home from the university, bringing exciting stories of a far away land called college During those days, they talked and studied together, and Justin felt much better. Because of that, he realized he shouldn't give himself up. Basketball used to be his favorite thing, and he was good at it. But now there was only school, so he had to get good at that.

Justin worked so hard. By the time he got to senior year in high school, his GPA was high. The last thing that Justin had to do to get into college was score well on the ACT. Well wouldn't you know it?

Using the study skills he had learned from his sister, Justin made a score of 24 on the ACT.

Every university that Justin applied to accepted him. When the fall came, Justin had his choice in colleges.

We decided to have a trip to the mountain in our town. My mother  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(唤醒) me up early in the morning. We took some water in order not to be  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(渴的). We didn't want to  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(浪费) time, so we set off so early that there were few cars on the road. We could   {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(几乎不) see anybody on the road.

We got there early. The mountain area is about 1,000  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(平方的) kilometres. It has beautiful  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(风景). There are many rocks in different   {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(形 状)everywhere. Some are like  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(人),some are like animals and others look like monsters. We walked along the  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(小路) and got to the top of the mountain. We could see the whole town. Mother  {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(指;指向) to a faraway village and told me where my grandma's house was. We had a great time there.

Yu, 32,is a maker of automata（机关人偶）in Chengdu,Sichuan.Thanks to him,wood not only comes alive, it also tells wonderful stories.

Interested in handcrafts as a boy, Yu first learned about automata by Kazuaki at a show in 2015 when he studied at the Communication University of China in Beijing. As an art and design student, he began to learn the craft by himself, and with the help of his tutor Lu Ying, he kept studying and examining automata in school.

When he finished school in 2016, Yu got a job at an advertising（广告） company in Beijing. He stayed at the company for three years because, at that time, he was not sure that he could make a living out of his hobby. Finally, in 2019, Yu quit（辞职） his job and returned to Chengdu to open his automata workshop. His hobby has become a career（事业）.

"A fascinating thing about automata is that they interest people of all ages. Adults see them as art, while children see them as toys to be played with,"Yu said, smiling.

Yu knows that there are many more creative ideas waiting to be shown."It feels quite good to pay attention to automata and I am still searching for myself."

Bamboo is a wonderful plant for many people around the world. There are over 1,000 uses for it. People make tables, clothes, medicine and musical instruments with it. Pandas may eat bamboo every day, and people can also eat it.

The fastest growing plant in the world is bamboo. Some bamboo grows so quickly that people say they can watch it grow. The speed of growth depends on the type of bamboo, the earth and the season. Normal bamboo grows 3-10 cm a day. It usually grows in tropical (热带的) areas. It can also be found in other parts of the world. Bamboo plants are found in Asia, Australia, parts of Africa and South America.

    ▲    Like today, people use it because ifs very strong. They use it to build houses, boats and bridges. The Chinese made a bamboo bridge over the Min River in Sichuan, China almost 1,000 years ago. You can still visit it today. Also, bamboo is still used to build houses today, especially in China and Philippines.

As a part of history, bamboo is very important. The great scientist Thomas Edison did not invent the light bulb (灯泡), but he made it perfect. He wanted the material inside to bum for a long period of time. He tried over 1,000 different types of materials. However, none worked very well. One day, he tried to use a piece of bamboo and the light bulb lit up for over a thousand hours. This invention helped other scientists to make the modern light bulb we use today.

 There were two deer(鹿) living by a river. Over the river there 1 a very narrow bridge.

 One day, one of them wanted to cross this bridge to 2 side of the river. Just in the middle of the bridge, he met the other deer. The bridge was not 3 for them to pass at the same time."Go back," said one deer to the other. "There is not enough room for both of 4 ." The other deer said, "Why should I go back? Better you go back."

"You must go back," said the first deer, "because I am 5 than you." The second deer said,"I don't think so. You are not stronger than me."

"We 6 who is stronger soon," said the first deer and he showed his horns(角) to let the second deer know 7 he was ready to fight.
