Yu, 32,is a maker of automata(机关人偶)in Chengdu,Sichuan. Thanks to him, wood not only comes alive, it also tells wonderful stories.
Interested in handcrafts as a boy, Yu first learned about automata by Kazuaki at a show in 2015 when he studied at the Communication University of China in Beijing. As an art and design student, he began to learn the craft by himself, and with the help of his tutor Lu Ying, he kept studying and examining automata in school.
When he finished school in 2016, Yu got a job at an advertising(广告) company in Beijing. He stayed at the company for three years because, at that time, he was not sure that he could make a living out of his hobby. Finally, in 2019, Yu quit(辞职) his job and returned to Chengdu to open his automata workshop. His hobby has become a career(事业).
"A fascinating thing about automata is that they interest people of all ages. Adults see them as art, while children see them as toys to be played with,"Yu said, smiling.
Yu knows that there are many more creative ideas waiting to be shown."It feels quite good to pay attention to automata and I am still searching for myself."

Can you recognize (辨别) AI-made pictures among real ones? Mark Zuckerberg wears a pink coat and walks in the fashion show. Former US president, Donald Trump, falls over while {#blank#}1{#/blank#} is getting arrested (逮捕). These pictures have {#blank#}2{#/blank#} popular online recently. They have one thing in common—they are fake (假的), but they look real.
AI tools, like Midjourney and DALL-E, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} create such pictures. Simply type in what you want and the picture comes out in a few minutes. People have never been {#blank#}4{#/blank#} worried than today about the fake news.
However, AI tools are not perfect. News medias, including the Washington Post and the Paper gave some {#blank#}5{#/blank#} on recognizing fake pictures.
One way is to look at hands. Human hands are often {#blank#}6{#/blank#} incorrectly by AI. The photos AI uses to learn often show hands in different ways, so it isn't sure what a "hand" {#blank#}7{#/blank#} looks like.
The other way is to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} attention to the details. For example, people in an AI made picture may miss an earring or a part of their glasses. If there {#blank#}9{#/blank#} a text in a picture, the text is usually unreadable. AI is also terrible at dealing with the background. If there's a crowd in the image, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} faces in the corner are usually unclear—or they don't have a face at all!

Most of people there cannot {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to go to hospital, so ORBIS doctors go to them. Operations are done to help people {#blank#}4{#/blank#} eye problems. The {#blank#}5{#/blank#} do not have to pay because ORBIS is a charity. Local doctors' and nurses are also invited on {#blank#}6{#/blank#} to learn new skills. By training {#blank#}7{#/blank#}, ORBIS doctors hope to help more people.
Dr Ma is a doctor on the ORBIS plane. He feels {#blank#}8{#/blank#} to help people see again. Dr Ma thinks that modern medicine is developing {#blank#}9{#/blank#} and now most eye problems can be {#blank#}10{#/blank#} and cured, but more money is needed to support their work.
