I'm Michael from America. Now I am in China and celebrating the Spring Festival with Li Lei's family. It's New Year's Eve (除夕). What are we doing?

At 10:00 am

Li Lei's grandfather is making red lanterns. People always hang them at the gate. In China, red means good luck. His parents are getting ready for lunch.

At 5:00 pm

Li Lei's mother and aunt are making jiaozi—a kind of dumplings. His two cousins are playing games, Li Lei is making some New Year cards. I am writing an email to my parents on the Internet. I tell them about the festival.

At 8:00 pm

We are sitting at a big table and having a family dinner. It's really delicious. We are also watching the Spring Festival Gala (春节联欢晚会).

During the National Day holiday of 2023, I had an unforgettable trip to Beijing. My family and I watched the flag-raising ceremony(升旗仪式) in Tian'anmen Square (广场).

That was a 1 important moment for us Chinese. It was 2 for us to get up very early because the ceremony started at sunrise(日出). 3 spent three days getting a chance(机会) to watch the ceremony. On the first day, 4 we got up at 5 a. m, we still missed the ceremony. The following day, we got up a little bit 5 in the morning. But when we got to the square, the street was already so 6 that we couldn't move. At last we could not get closer to the ceremony. So on the 7 day, we got up at around 3: 30 a. m. When we 8 the Tian'an Men Square,t he ceremony began. One hour later, we had a close and 9 view(看) of the flag raising ceremony. Seeing it gave me a sense of pride(自豪) and it really 10 my heart.

I was lucky to see it in Beijing because most people could only see that on TV. I am proud of being a Chinese student, and I hope our country will be stronger and stronger.

Nowadays more and more young people take up a new hobby like collecting stamps to record their travels.  They imprint (压印) the stamps, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (usual) with pictures and names of the places, on postcards or in travel notebooks. 

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} 29-year-old woman started stamp collecting three years ago.  She found it to be a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (good) way to record her travels than buying local gifts.  So she {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (carry) a special notebook for collecting stamps while travelling.  Once she spent two hours waiting {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a special stamp.  Now she has filled six {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (notebook) with stamps. 

"Stamp collecting has added more fun to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (I) travels.  Looking through those notebooks feels a little like looking at photos.  I can recall what delicious food I {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (have) and what fun experiences I enjoyed," she said. 

At the time of social media, tourists are {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (excite) to share their collecting ideas with others online.  This makes offline visits and online communication the useful ways {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (spread) culture. 

Turning Garbage into New Earth

My father is a quiet and shy man. He has his own creative ideas, but he 1  keeps them to himself. Don't get me wrong. If you ask him for advice, he is always glad to 2  his ideas with you. He goes about his business without too much excitement. There is one thing that really gets him 3 . Just mention the word "rubbish" to him! He is especially interested in 4  the rubbish problem. "We've become a throwaway society. We buy something, and then we throw it away. We shouldn't5  doing this, " he said. 

Last year, my father decided to do something about the wasted 6  we were throwing away. A family 7  nearly 500 pounds of food waste each year. Don't 8 , though. There is something that we can do about it. Food waste is also known 9 "organic matter(有机物)". If it is properly 10 , it can be changed from rubbish to compost(混合肥料) which can be added to vegetable gardens to make the plants grow really well. 

"We are going to start composting our food waste, "11  decided one night at dinner. "I bought a compost bin today. From now on, we should put all our food waste in the compost bin 12  throwing it away. Nature will slowly 13  it into compost. In a few months, we will have rich compost to add to our 14  . "

 It took a while to get used to it, 15  soon, we all got into the habit of taking our food waste to the compost bin in the backyard. Three months later, we were excited to find the bin full of rich compost!

Our school held a music concert last week. The concert started at 7 o'clock and ended at9:30. In this concert, many students performed(表演) very well. Maria is one of them. I thought she was the best performer. When she was playing the piano, everyone listened to the wonderful music quietly. After she finished playing, everyone cheered for her. Then I visited her at the back of the stage. I learned that she joined the school music club one year ago. She learned how to play the piano there every Sunday. Mr Wang teaches her to play the piano. He is a pianist. He is kind to her. Maria hopes that I can also join the school music club. She would like to teach me to play the piano. I am very happy. We become good friends soon. 

Helen Smith comes from Canada. She is 1 sports star. Her birthday is 2 December 1st She 3 four friends. They are Alice. Dale, Eric and Helen. Helen wants 4 sports with them on weekends. 5 every weekend she goes to the club at seven in the morning. Then she plays basketball with them. She plays basketball 6 . In the afternoon, they play ping-pong for two hours. She goes home at 5: 00 p. m. She 7 eating some fruits and vegetables for dinner and two 8 a day. After that, she does 9 homework and goes to bed before 10 p. m. She is  10  and happy.
