Two months ago, my husband's hand was badly hurt after an accident at work. Then we had to, drive to the hospital to do the physical therapy(治疗)for his hand three times a week.

Today while we were driving to the hospital. We saw a young man standing in the strong and cold winds. We stopped and asked if he needed a ride. He gladly accepted and jumped into the back seat. His name was Dan and he wasn't going far.

As we dropped him off, we noticed he had many large piles (堆) of cut wood in his yard. We asked if he was interested in selling any. He said," Oh, you can just come by anytime, even if I'm not here and take all you want." We asked how much it would cost for a trunk load (一箱). He answered," It's free. We have more than we'll ever use. So just come by and get it anytime. Thanks for the ride and have a great day!"

We still wanted to pay for it and would only get it when someone was home, but he just kept saying what he already told us.

Dan just wanted to repay (回报) us with the wood, never knowing how much that would mean to us because my husband isn't able to chop any wood for us this winter.

When Sally was a child, she went to the city park with her mom on a sunny morning. She felt very unhappy. Her mom saw that and asked why. Sally told her mother that she felt so sorry to see so much rubbish on the ground. 

Her mom looked around. There were pieces of paper, boxes, glass bottles and a lot of other rubbish everywhere. "What can we do?" asked Sally sadly. "I'm sure you will think of something," said her mom. 

As soon as Sally got home with her mom, she painted a picture of the park and wrote a sign in large black letters at the top of the picture. The sign said, "PLEASE KEEP OUR PARK CLEAN". Later, she took plenty of bags and went back to the park with her mom. Sally put up her picture on a big rubbish box. 

The children at the park ran over to see what was going on. Sally handed each of them a bag. "Let's clean up this place," said Sally. Then they began to pick up the rubbish, talking and laughing. Soon, all the bags were full. 

Then Sally's mom led them to put the rubbish into different kinds of rubbish boxes. When they looked at the clean park, they all had a strong feeling of satisfaction. 

From then on, Sally has been keeping doing the cleaning and sorting (分类) rubbish. More and more people joined her to play a part in environment protection.

In the face of floods(洪水) in Zhuozhou city, Hebei Province, volunteer Zhao Zhansheng became popular. His act of offering free {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to people suffered(遭受) from flood(洪水) and rescuers(救援者) touched lots of people. 

Zhao is a(n) {#blank#}2{#/blank#} of the Shenying rescue team in Henan Province. Zhao has {#blank#}3{#/blank#} voluntary work for about 20 years. On August 2, 2023, he and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} friends arrived in Zhuozhou to offer help. 

In a video posted online, Zhao prepared huimian(烩面), traditional Henan noodles, right on the streets. He {#blank#}5{#/blank#} local people and rescuers passing by to have a meal. "Please let the kids who haven't had breakfast this morning {#blank#}6{#/blank#} first, then the rescuers and other friends. Don't worry. We have plenty of food. Anyone who comes here can have a bowl of hot noodles today," Zhao shouted to the people around. " {#blank#}7{#/blank#} they lost many things, many locals joined me in preparing the meals. I'm {#blank#}8{#/blank#} for their support as well," Zhao added. 

The video touched {#blank#}9{#/blank#} of people's hearts. It received over 770,000 likes. One person said, "We Chinese pull together in the face of difficulties." Another said, "All people working in the front line are heroes. I wish all of you can return home {#blank#}10{#/blank#} ."

It was a cold afternoon. I was training（训练） a football team for first graders. It was the day of our first practice. I seated the kids on a long bench on the grass. Any time I was training a new team, I spent a few minutes getting them to 1 one another, each kid saying his name and the names of all the kids sitting to the left of him.

A few minutes later, I decided to choose Alex to start at the end of the bench, go up to each kid, say that kid's 2 and then shake his right hand.

There was a little kid studying in the 5th grade. Everyone in his class thought that he was one of the1 kids. His grades were so terrible that he himself thought the same. 

However, his poor progress didn't2 him as he cared nothing about studying but reading novels. He used to say to his mom, "Nothing matters except for reading." His mother was aware that her boy was not reaching his full potential (潜能) and decided to give him a way to do it. So, she set two rules for him. First, he was3 to watch TV shows or play outside only after finishing his homework. Second, while reading two books each week, he had to write a book report on each of them. 

The kid felt4 about these new rules and tried hard to talk his mother out of them. But his mother stood firm and the kid couldn't5 her. Before long, he saw the6 of his hard work, when he was the only one who knew the answer to a question the teacher asked the class. All his classmates and teachers, even the kid himself, felt surprised. The kid noticed that his7 came from books he was reading. He began to realize that he could8 his love for reading into learning. If he could learn just a few facts from books, he could learn anything.

Bird watching is getting popular. Great bird watchers can 1  different birds by their looks and songs. It is easy for 2  to tell the differences between any two kinds of common birds. 

Mr Zhang is a(n)3  in Shanghai. He likes watching birds. In his free time, he likes to walk in the 4 . There he can hear birds sing, enjoy 5  trees reaching up to the sky and see some animals run. Watching 6  is his favourite activity in the forest. He 7  an ecological protection(生态 保护) group last year. Every year the group 8  several talks. The members in the group are bird lovers or bird watchers. During their talks, they share a lot about birds 9  each other. Some birds are common and some are rare(稀有的). Each member can also give his or her 10  about how to protect birds and then they take action. 

Mr Zhang says, " Being a computer engineer is really 11 . Every day I need to 12  in front of the computer for a long time and do the same things again and again. I always feel bored with my job, 13  I can't give it up. After I joined the ecological protection group, I always feel as 14  as a clam. "

To Mr Zhang, bird watching is his 15 . Trying to help protect birds is his duty.
