Some of the world's most famous musicians recently gathered in Paris and New Orleans to celebrate the first annual International Jazz Day. UNESCO( United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) recently set April 30 as a day to raise awareness of jazz music, its significance, and its potential as a unifying(联合) voice across cultures.

    Despite the celebrations, though, in the U.S. the jazz audience continues to shrink and grow older, and the music has failed to connect with younger generations.

    It's Jason Moran's job to help change that. As the Kennedy Center's artistic adviser for jazz, Moran hopes to widen the audience for jazz, make the music more accessible, and preserve its history and culture.

    ＂Jazz seems like it's not really a part of the American appetite,＂ Moran tells National Public Radio's reporter Neal Conan. ＂What I'm hoping to accomplish is that my generation and younger start to reconsider and understand that jazz is not black and write anymore. It's actually color, and it's actually digital.＂

    Moran says one of the problems with jazz today is that the entertainment aspect of the music has been lost. ＂The music can't be presented today the way it was in 1908 or 1958. It has to continue to move, because the way the world works is not the same,＂ says Moran.

    Last year, Moran worked on a project that arranged Fats Waller's music for a dance party, ＂just to kind of put it back in the mind that Waller is dance music as much as it is concert music,＂ says Moran. ＂For me, it's the recontextualization. In music, where does the emotion(情感) lie? Are we, as humans, gaining any insight(感悟) on how talk about ourselves and how something as abstract as a Charlie Parker record gets us into a dialogue about our emotions and our thoughts? Sometimes we lose sight that the music has a wider context,＂ says Moran, ＂so I want to continue those dialogues. Those are the things I want to foster.＂

    Playing different kinds of music, it has a night to serve most tastes. As one of the leading places for the creative arts, the building is full of friendly but crazy students and young people devoted to having a good time. But for those who aren't interested in making the ceiling sweat, there is an open-air rooftop, monthly plays and regular showings of films.

    Roxy, Fitzrovia

    In the heart of London's shopping center lies one of the flagships for a student night out in London. After showing their Student IDs, students head down into the basement (地下室) of the Roxy where they are thrown into a group of young people from all backgrounds and countries. Whether for a few drinks and a chat or a dance along to the sound of the latest hits, the Roxy's half-priced cocktail (鸡尾酒) will make sure you are satisfied.

    Bar Kick, Shoreditch

    For students who are very busy and have forgotten how to relax, keep yourself focused while you play a game of table football. Put yourself into the crowd of bars and clubs Shoreditch has to offer, Bar Kick presents students with a quiet evening. At street level, it seems like any other bar. Heading downstairs you'll find almost a dozen football tables replacing the dance floor, giving it a competitive edge to an evening away from school work.

    The Court, Tottenham Court Road

    For an affordable meal and drinks on a Sunday before a week of stress, head over to The Court. Combining the perfect combination of traditional pub comforts with student prices, the central London pub offers a quiet place as you catch up with classmates and forget about the stresses of being a student,

    A 12 -year-old girl who had a feeling that she might be quite clever has taken a test and proved she was absolutely right.

    After raising the idea with her parents and pestering (纠缠)them for the best part of a year, Lydia took the test in her summer holidays. It turns out the test wasn't that hard after all.

    "I was really nervous before the test and I thought it was going to be really hard. But as I started the test, I thought it was a bit easier than I thought it was going to be," she said.

    Lydia Sebastian achieved the top score of 162 on Mensa's Cattell III B paper, showing she has a higher IQ than well-known geniuses Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. The comparison doesn't sit well with the British student, who's currently in Year 8 at a selective girl's grammar school in Essex, England.

    "I don't think I can be compared to such great intellectuals as Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. They've achieved so much. I don't think it's right," Lydia told CNN.

To explain Lydia's mark's level, the top adult score in the Cattell III B test, which mainly tests verbal(语言) reasoning, is 161. A top 2% score—which allows entry to Mensa, the club for those with high IQs—would be 148 or over. Lydia scored 162, placing her in the top 1% of the population.

    Lydia's not quite sure what she wants to do when she leaves school, although she's leaning toward something "based around Maths, because it's one of my favorite subjects." "All I'm going to do is work as hard as I can, and see where that gets me," she said.

    A few weeks ago, I sat with a California farmer named Dave Ribeiro. I asked him what he wished to know about farmers. He smiled and said, "That we walk among you. We look like you and talk like you. We have advanced degrees and hobbies, just like you."

    Take Dave for example: He's a young man with a music degree. And if you walked past him on the street, you'd never think, "There goes a farmer."

    Is someone like Dave who you picture when you think of a farmer? Probably not. I think that most people would picture a man in his overalls(工作服). I can tell you, that does not represent Dave or any of the many other farmers I have gotten to know.

    Not only do we have to throw out our previous impression of farmers, but farming as a whole doesn't look much like it used to either. We recently sent a team out to see what modern farming looks like, and they found farmers to be completely different from our usual ideas about them and also came across them in some unexpected places.

    In a parking lot in a neighborhood of Brooklyn, they met a new crop of young farmers who were trying to bring fresh greens closer to eaters in the city by growing them in high-tech indoor vertical(垂直的) farms. In a Florida field under the fight path of an airport, they discovered farmers with university degrees growing plants that might someday fuel our cars. And in a modern farm in California, they observed how farmers were using technology to take the best possible care of their animals.

    These farmers all spend their days in very different ways—none of them looks like the previous farmer we have in our mind—but they're all working on new ways to feed our planet. Not only do we need to change our idea of what farming looks like, but we also need to change our view of where solutions can come from. Feeding all of us is going to take all of us working together.

The world is filled with challenges. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} . Wisdom is a wonderful accumulation of experience, knowledge and good judgement. When things get really intense and wild out there, you can rely on your wisdom to make the best choices. Here are some strategies you can use to ger wise.

Sometimes you have prejudice and you need to set it aside most of the time. You need to be receptive to different opinions. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} . Always develop a sense of curiosity, and observe the world from different angles. Never base your perspective on the most popular opinion and train your mind to be a judgment-free space for ideas. Never back away from learning

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} . Develop a thirst for knowledge. Take new classes, read now books, listen to educational podcasts (播客), and the list goes on and on. If something confuses you, surf the Internet and clear out your problems. All of these activities will strengthen your critical- thinking skills. Meet new people

Limiting yourself to only one type of people who share the same ideology (意识形态) as you can be comforting but it doesn't get you anywhere. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} . Share what defines you and learn from others, and this will make you wise: Cultivate new friendships and this will be extremely beneficial to your future.
