The earliest maps were probably drawn in the Middle East. Some of these maps have1and they show us the people at that time thought the earth flat(平的).As time went by, the pictures became more detailed and maps were more2made. Later on, ancient Greeks(希腊人)used their3of math and science to make maps. Greek maps tell us the Greeks knew the world was 4.

    From simple pictures, mapmaking has turned into a science. Maps are made5 surveying(勘测)land. In the1900s, people around the world started to share information to make6maps. With the help of the photographs taken from the sky and space, maps are now more exactly made than ever.7the world is always changing, we will always need new maps.

    There are many types of maps, but almost all use8and pictures to describe what a place is like when the map is made. A map usually tells what the pictures 9. Some maps may show the whole world. A road map will help you know the10from one place to another. Other maps may use pictures to show the temperature and population in different places.

Schuylerville High School students have a wide range of interests, which are reflected by the number of clubs and organizations in which our pupils participate. Here are some of the most popular clubs.

Environmental Club

Open to students in grades 9—12 Advisor: Mrs. Flores

The High School Environmental Club is open to all students interest increasing environmental awareness throughout the school. Activities include recycling, environmental competitions, volunteering with green schools and outdoor events. This run student club collects and recycles paper products throughout the school building.

Freshman Class

Open to students in grades 9—10 Advisor: Mr. winslow

The freshmen class participates in several activities throughout the year to raise money for the class account. The class officers meet once a month to discuss business that affects the entire class. All members of the freshman class are encouraged to participate in some type of community service during the year.

Literary magazine

Open to students in grades 10—12 Advisor: Mr. Sgambati

Members of the Literary Magazine collect, edit and often contribute to the body of student work. Literary Magazine meetings will also give students the opportunity to share and receive feedback on the creative pieces that they're working on, as well as the chance to learn about writing practices and strategies.

Mock Trial Team

Open to stude…s in grades 11—12Advisor: Mrs. Lewis

Mock Trial is an after—school activity that helps students develop useful knowledge about the law. Students play out all the roles and use general rules of evidence and fact explanations in a school court. They will work with a real lawyer and an advisor to further understand the court process.

A simple honk(汽车喇叭声) from the bus is a secret code(暗号) between the driver and the   students living in a far- away village in Wanzhou, Chongqing. 

Mr Cheng, a bus driver, notices a schoolbag hanging on the door of an old house. He stops and honks to answer the" code". After a moment, a boy rushes outside and gets on the bus. The boy's parents work far from home, leaving him in the care of his grandmother. Though the boy is separated from his parents, he is trying hard in his study. Whenever the boy's schoolbag is hanging outside the house, it" tells" Mr Cheng that the student needs to catch the bus. Mr Cheng says that plenty of left- behind children(留守儿童) need to take the bus. He knows that his role(角色) is very important in their lives. 

Touched by the story, many people praised him as a" good driver" on the Internet. They commented(评论) that" The schoolbag is their code, packed with love inside. "

All loving parents want to believe that their child is the smartest in the class. Some will call their child a genius. This is easy to understand. Parents just want to make their child feel confident from a young age. However, calling your child a genius is not the answer. Being a natural genius is not common and many parents mistake real genius. The ability to read or speak a little sooner than other children does not necessarily mean your child is a genius. It probably just means he is a fast learner. To call your child a genius could actually damage his early development. 

The word "genius" will put a lot of stress on some children. The stress to____live up to their parent's expectations could feel too big. Such high expectations are more likely to affect their confidence badly. Some other children may become too confident. This can be bad too. The children may start to believe that they are so smart that they do not have to try hard at school. Studies show that it is better for children's development to praise (称赞) their hard work instead of telling them they are geniuses. 

Do not give your child all the answers, either. Asking your child lots of questions will help him think. Your child also needs time to find out what he is interested in. Do not push him to become interested in something you feel is important. Finally, have proper conversations with your child. Studies show that this helps with language development. 

Whether or not your child is a genius, our advice should help give your child the best possible start in life. 

Li Ming is a student in Grade 7. He likes all the subjects. But geography is difficult for him. He wants to learn it well, but he doesn't know what to do. He is very worried. 

Wu Fang is his geography teacher. She is kind to her students. She wants to help him with his geography. One day, she came to Li Ming's desk and asked, "Hi, Li Ming. Where are you from?""I'm from Sichuan, Ms Wu. ""Oh, Sichuan is a nice place! Where is Mount Emei? Where does the Jialing River start?"

"I'm sorry, Ms Wu. I don't know, " Li Ming said. "Do you want to know?" Ms Wu asked. 

"Yes, Ms Wu. But how can I know about that?"

From then on, with the help of Ms Wu, Li Ming learned geography hard. And now, he can always get good grades(成绩) in geography. 

This term, Xiao Yang has a new subject— geography, but he doesn't like it. "It's not useful at all, " he thinks. So he always plays games in class. 

 Mr. Wang is his geography teacher. . He is nice to the students in his class. One day, he finds Xiao Yang isn't interested in his class. He comes to Xiao Yang's desk and asks, "Hi, Xiao Yang. Where are you from?"

"I'm from Sichuan, Mr. Wang. "

"Oh, that's a nice place! Can I ask you some questions?"
