Have you even seen fireflies(萤火虫)?Fireflies are small insects. You can't see them{#blank#}1{#/blank#} any season except summer. The lights made by fireflies are probably one of the most magical things to see on a summer night. Do you wonder{#blank#}2{#/blank#} fireflies make this light?

There is a part that can make light under a firefly's stomach. Fireflies take in air and{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

(useful) it to produce light with special cells (细胞).Different kinds have {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(they) own special flash patterns, just like humans have different languages. They use these flash patterns to find other members of their group.

Fireflies {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(main) use the light to get friends' attention. The males (雄性) fly around while{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(turn) their lights on and off, hoping to get the attention of a female (雌性).They try to flash very quickly, because the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(fast) males flash, the more attention they can get from females. Fireflies also use the light to make their {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(enemy) scared.

If you haven't seen many fireflies lately, you are not alone.{#blank#}9{#/blank#} number of fireflies may be dropping because of some reasons, such as light pollution and chemical medicine use. Another important reason is that fireflies' living places are destroyed by humans.{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(luck), Chinese scientists recently found three new firefly kinds in Yunnan. Yunnan might have the right environment for these magical insects to live in.

①Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been making waves in the art world. AI image- making tools such as Midjourney and DALL-E 2 can now make amazing digital(数码的) paintings. How do they work?

②For DALL-E 2, the AI is fed huge collections of artworks. The program finds patterns(模式) in the pictures and, after a while, learns which features (特征) are important, such as people, animals, objects, styles, or colors. Then it can produce images that keep the key features and produce a good result. The app produces a lot of images at the same time but chooses the most accurate(准确的) ones for the user to choose from. 

③These days, anyone can go online or download an app to produce their own AI art. Just give the program a few key words and choose a style, and it will create a digital painting in the style you want. This means that anyone can now create art, even if they don't know how to paint. 

④Not everyone is happy about the growth of AI- generated (生成的) art. To some, it isn't art at all because AI depends on learning from only the information it is given. The AI isn't creating on its own. However, others think that AI is the same as humans and it is no different from any other artist. 

⑤Some people also say that AI art has no value because it is too easy. It isn't created step- by- step by a human. Yet the same is true of photography. Just as artists of an earlier age welcomed photography, some artists today are using AI to create unique works of art. These artists find that they have to work together with the AI in exploring and experimenting — it isn't simple at all!

⑥At the heart of this debate(辩论) is an important question: Will AI replace human artists, or will humans learn to use AI as a tool to create great art? Only time will tell. 

Carol and Linda took a trip to San Francisco last July. They went there to visit Nick. Nick is a friend from their old neighborhood in Rome. He moved to San Francisco five years ago. They went there by train because they wanted to see more of the United States. 

They arrived in San Francisco in the evening. Nick met them at the train station. They were so delighted to see him. He looked the same as before. They gave him a big hug （拥抱）. The next day, they went sightseeing （观光）. They saw the Golden Gate Bridge. They had lunch at Fisherman's Wharf. At Fisherman's Wharf, they saw the fishing boats come in. The next day, they visited the University of California at Berkeley. Nick teaches music there. Carol and Linda liked the school. They thought that it was very big and very beautiful. 

They saw all of San Francisco before they left. Nick took them everywhere! They went back to New Orleans by plane because they didn't have time to go back by train. Nick was sad （伤心的） to see them go and they were sad to leave. 

All in all, Carol and Linda had a wonderful trip. They traveled （旅行） across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. They visited all of San Francisco. They had a great visit with Nick. They both wanted to go again next summer!

Pan Yuzhen,77, comes from Taijiang County, Guizhou Province. She is an inheritor(继承人) of Miao embroidery(刺绣).

"The girls in my hometown can embroider at an early age. When I was five years old, I learned embroidery from my mother and sister. Miao embroidery skills are not easy to learn, but I have learned all embroidery methods," Pan said. At first, Pan embroidered for her own use, but as she grew older and married, her skills were put to use for her family, creating beautiful embroidered clothes.

 To treat her daughter and feed the family, Pan embarked on a journey, travelling to different cities to sell her Miao embroidery products.

 In 1999, Zhang went to Beijing to join her mother. At that time, Pan had a store in a market. Here, she met a lot of foreign friends who were attracted by her embroidery skills and encouraged her to expand her business abroad." They advised me to go to foreign countries and sell cultural and creative products. Then I went to the US to do business connected with Miao embroidery," Pan said.

 In 2016, Pan's career took a huge leap forward as she worked with a famous clothing brand(品牌) in China. With the help of the brand, Pan went to the UK to take part in different fashion shows. Now Pan is well— known. Pan hopes more young people can inherit Miao embroidery skills.

①Almost every kid on the planet loves snacks, but they seldom care how unhealthy those snacks are. Some snacks like chocolate and candies are found everywhere, however, others are unique to a country or a culture. 

②In Japan, Matcha(抹茶) is a kind of green tea powder. It is made from tea leaves and can be used with ice cream or cake. In fact, Matcha came from China first but took off in Japan. Biscuits or cookies covered with chocolate are also a Japanese favourite. 

③Potato chips and French fries are very popular in the US. They are cheap but tasty. But they are high in calories and eating too much may make you fat. Popcorn is another typical snack. People eat it when they are watching sports games or visiting the amusement park. Most cinemas also sell popcorn. 

④In the UK, many people sit down for snacks at around 4 pm every day. They call it"afternoon tea". Traditional afternoon tea is biscuits and tea. People also have scones(烤饼) with jam and cream, which is probably the most classical English snack. Potato chips and French fries are popular in the UK too. 

⑤Do you want to eat snacks in a healthy way? Here are some helpful tips. Have a look! A handful of walnuts (核桃) are great for your brain. But a whole bag will add nothing but fat. If you're crazy about chocolate, try a hot chocolate drink instead of a chocolate bar. Don't eat too many snacks after dinner.
