I was looking throughmy old photos last Sunday. One photo {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (catch) my eye. In thephoto, I was sitting in a chair, hugging Duke, my best friend in the world.

Duke was aninteresting name for such {#blank#}2{#/blank#} little dog. But he was myfriend from the moment I could walk. He stayed with me in that chair when I read{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (book).When I went outside {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(play) games, he would drive our cats up to the trees and then walk off feelingproud of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(him). When he was hungry, he would carry his food dish in his mouth and drop {#blank#}6{#/blank#} at my mum's feet. WhenI was sick, he refused to leave my bed until I got {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (well) than before.

I learned a lot fromDuke. I learned that a short sleep at noon could be good {#blank#}8{#/blank#} _people. I learnedthat the simplest dinner can be delicious {#blank#}9{#/blank#} you eat it with greatenjoyment. I learned that life can be good when you live it with love and joy. Ialso learned that life is short, especially for a dog.

To me, Duke is like ateacher. He {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(teach) me how to love and to be loved.

Did you have a nice weekend? Well, I did. On Saturday morning, I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} for an English test. In the afternoon, I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in a swimming pool. It was relaxing. On Saturday evening, I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} dinner with my friends. The dinner was great. On Sunday morning, I {#blank#}4{#/blank#}to the park with my cousin. The weather was great and we had great fun flying kites. Then in the afternoon, I practiced the piano at home. On Sunday evening, I {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a basketball game on TV with my dad. How exciting it was!

"Simply avoid her. " Abby listened closely, as I continued, "If she says any more 1 things to you, I'll go to your teacher. I'll make sure you are never in a (n) 2 where you have to sit next to her again."

At that time, Allyson, my then eight-year-old, came to 3 us and listened to every word. Neither of my daughters interrupted (打断) as I finished my heartfelt speech, filled with 4 wisdom. Then, as I was telling them what I thought right, Allyson's real words of 5 came about. "Mom," she said, "I was just thinking. Maybe Abby should be that girl's 6 so that she can bear (容忍) her. In that way, she can let that girl see forgiveness (谅解) and 7 through her."

Hmm, I became the 8 . At that moment, I realized that although I was wearing the "mother's hat", the "hat" certainly didn't make me 9 all the time. In fact, I wanted to pull that hat over my face and hide myself so that they couldn't see my 10 look. 

"Yes, that's a good point," I commented (评论), 11 a half smile at my girls. "Abby, you deal with this situation the way you think is right. " "OK, " she said, giving me a quick hug before walking out of the door and off to school. "Bye, Mom! " Allyson called, 12 her big sister to go out of the door. 

I was left alone—in my slippers (拖鞋). In those following 13 moments, I was lost in thought. I did feel 14 my two amazing daughters—small in size but big in heart. Sometimes our children have great lessons to teach us—15 we are willing to listen. 

That lesson came more than ten years ago, and I'll never forget how much I have learned from my children.

One day Suzie McCash went shopping with her mum in Tynemouth, England. Suzie was four years old. Her mum didn't feel very well at the shops, so they went home.

In the house, Suzie's mum went to lie on the sofa. She was there for a long time. Her eyes were shut and it wasn't easy for her to breathe(呼吸). Suzie was worried. Was her mum really ill? Suzie went to the house next door, but the neighbors(邻居) weren't there. So she phoned 999 — the emergency telephone number for the police.

The police officer was very kind and Suzie was calm.

OFFICER: ‘What's your mummy doing now?'

SUZIE: ‘Um, she's just lying on the sofa and she's doing nothing.'

OFFICER: ‘Are her eyes open?'

SUZIE: ‘No, they're shut.'

And later…

OFFICER: ‘Can you open the door? Can you be a big girl?'

Soon the police were at their house and some doctors were there, too. About an hour later, Suzie's mum was OK again. A doctor said, "Her mummy was very sick. Without Suzie's phone call, her mummy might be dead(去世的) now!"

Suzie's story was in the newspapers and people were surprised and happy about it. She was a very brave girl and, a year later, she was in the news again because she was named a Child of Courage at the Pride of Britain Awards(奖) for helping her mother.
