I'm enjoying my staying in Canada. It is my first experience of studying abroad, and I am trying to 1  as much as possible. Classes here are much more fun and very different from classes in 2  . There are very few chances to practise 3  and listening in China, so although many Chinese students have good 4  , their speaking is not good. Studying English at Fern is much more practical. We actually 5  the language we are learning. I couldn't speak any English at all when I arrived here. 6 after about a month, the situation changed. Things started getting 7  and I made friends and started to settle in(安顿下来). I am really 8  to learn English here and Fern is a very good language school.

I have always wanted to have a sister. In my Canadian host family my dream has 9 . On the first day when I arrived, my host family welcomed 10  warmly. All the family members were 11  and helpful, and they made me feel at home at once.

My " 12 " , Joise, is very kind. She often explains their manners to me. Her mother explains ordinary things like housework. Together they 13  me to study and understand Canada. Joise told me a 14  . Last year, she met a Chinese student on a plane. She said she felt sorry 15 she did not say anything to the girl.

I'm happy to live in Canada. I think it will be an important experience in my life.

When I was in school, I volunteered to work in a hospital for some time.

On one visit, I carefully entered a dark room  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(find) an elderly man lying in bed. I firstly thought he was sleeping. When I moved much  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(close), however, I realised he was very much awake. He wanted to communicate something,   {#blank#}3{#/blank#}I couldn't make sense of what he was saying. He seemed quite weak, and I couldn't tell if he  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be) in pain or just frightened. I knew nothing  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}him, and I felt totally helpless. He clearly didn't want me to leave him, but I felt so lost and uncomfortable that I had to leave the room after only a couple of  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(minute).

The next time I was at  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}same hospital and saw him again, he immediately said,"I remember you. You gave me hope in my darkest hour that evening!"I was so  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(surprise) that I didn't know how to answer.

In the short moment of  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(I)staying there, I did nothing at all. But surprisingly he found something he needed in me, just  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I was there.

I have thought about this thing often over the past years. It makes me want to offer whatever kindness I can to others, and I try to make it out and appreciate (欣赏) it.

Sometimes, a terrible tragedy (悲剧) can encourage us to do important things. Dashrath Manjhi was born into a poor family in Gehlaur village, India in 1934. He ran away from home when he was young and began working in the coal mines (煤矿) in Dhanbad. Later he returned to his home village and got married.

One terrible day in 1959, his wife, Falguni Devi, fell from the village mountain and was badly hurt. The nearest town with a doctor was close but a mountain stood in the way. The path (小路) around the mountain made the journey 90 kilometers. Falguni died before they could see the doctor.

Manjhi wanted to do something. He decided to cut a path through the mountain so that the village could reach medical care faster.

He took a hammer (锤子) and chisel (凿子) and began hammering through the mountain. People thought he was mad but he continued. He made a path 110 meters long, 7.7 meters deep and 9.1 meters wide. It took 22 years but Manjhi completed the road in 1982. It cut the distance between the village and the neighboring areas from 55 to 15 km. For his work, Manjhi became known as the Mountain Man.

After his death in 2007 at the age of 73, an official road was built through the mountain. Manjhi was given a state funeral (葬礼) and his face was put on a stamp in 2016. He has had films and documentaries made about him. He used his terrible personal tragedy to do something that would hopefully stop others from experiencing such tragedy in their own lives.

It was an extremely busy day. I was so tired of my life that I was getting a little 1 with myself and everyone around me. On my way home I met my old friend Paul in the street. He looked happy and 2 me to his home for dinner. We hadn't seen each other for many years, so I accepted his invitation 3 I was tired. 

As we entered the door of his house, Paul started 4 "I have a dream, a song to sing, to help you go5 everything. " I felt surprised at his behavior, but in no time I understood. Two girls walked to Paul and hugged him. They couldn't walk6 or speak clearly, but their faces were full of7 and sang the same song. 

We talked about our8 and work. I learned from Paul that his daughters were born as " special children". They were mentally changed. Their mother 9 years ago. Paul was both mother and father to his beautiful daughters. But Paul said he was10 that his angels were together with him. 

That night we talked a lot and his happy smiles made my11 disappear. I forgot how many times I12 about my life and work. But Paul's life was an 13 to me. The man smiled at his life and14 any trouble as a gift of life. I own many thanks to Paul for he taught me to deal with my life15 and move on. 

Billy Ray Harris was homeless. He spent each day on the streets of Kansas City, begging for money or food. Every day, as he sat thinking about his life, he occasionally heard the sound of a coin or two coming into his cup. One day, the noise was louder than usual. If Billy had looked up, he'd have seen a young lady on her way to work. But he didn't. Later when he looked into the cup, he could hardly believe what he saw. At the bottom was a shining diamond ring.

Billy's first thought was to go straight to a jeweller's(珠宝店) and that's exactly what he did. To his amazement, he was offered $4,000. Billy thought long and hard. Was this a mistake? It was more money than he'd seen in a long time. But then he thought about his grandfather, who had brought him up always to do the right thing, and knew he had to reconsider. His mind was made up. He'd keep the ring and maybe one day its owner would return.

Two days later, a young woman came while he was begging. She introduced herself as Sarah Darling and asked if he'd found anything unusual in his cup. Billy reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring. When he saw the smile on her face, he knew he'd made the right decision. She explained when putting the coins into his cup, she'd forgotten putting her ring in her purse.

But the story doesn't end there. Sarah told her husband the story and wanted to post it on the Internet. He thought it was a good idea. They also called on raising money for Billy. They had more than $185,000. Billy Ray Harris no longer spends his days begging. He has a home and a job. The story also made the local news and he was reunited with his two sisters, who he hadn't seen for 16 years. If he hadn't done the right thing, he wouldn't have seen his sisters again.

There are many different kinds of sports in the world. For example, running, swimming, football, basketball, tennis and so on. Sports can make people strong and healthy. People also enjoy watching sports games. 

In different countries, people like different sports. In China, table tennis is very popular. Many people like to play it. In the USA, basketball is a very popular sport. American people like to play and watch basketball games. In Brazil, football is the most popular sport. People there are crazy about football. They play football everywhere.
