Are there any rules in your family?

A reporter, Tim {#blank#}1{#/blank#} four students about their family rules.

On school days, Jack can't play computer {#blank#}2{#/blank#} and has to go to bed before nine o'clock. He must take a shower before {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to bed. He 39. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} clean the house on the weekend.

Jim has to get up at six o'clock every morning. He must do his homework {#blank#}5{#/blank#} after school. He can't watch TV {#blank#}6{#/blank#} listen to music on weekdays, either. His mother is a teacher. She is {#blank#}7{#/blank#} with Jim very much.

Sally can't {#blank#}8{#/blank#} loudly (大声地) at home. She has to listen to English before going to bed. She has to play the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} on Sundays.

Mike must run in the morning. He can't eat junk food (垃圾食品). He has to help his mom do {#blank#}10{#/blank#} housework.

A farmer lived in the State of Song. There {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(stand) a big tree stump(树桩) in his field. One day, when he {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(work) in the field, he suddenly saw a hare(野兔) bump into the stump, break its neck and die at once.

In the story, this farmer wanted to live {#blank#}10{#/blank#} better life by dreaming of having unexpected blessings(意外之财). He was so lazy and foolish. As the English saying goes, "No pains, no gains." No one can reap where one has not sown.

Amy and Susan both live an ordinary （普通的） life. They have an ordinary house, an ordinary job and an ordinary family. There is really nothing 1 about their lives. 

Amy and Susan are both satisfied （满意的） with their lives, 2 it seems that Amy is happier than Susan. Whenever Susan comes to visit Amy, Amy seems carefree（无忧无虑的） and happy. She looks like3 can make her unhappy. She is always wearing a big 4 on her face. 

Susan can't stop 5 that. Why does Amy look much happier than her when they both lead such6 lives. How can Amy be so carefree when life is so stressful? There are always a million things in her life— work, shopping, housework and kids. But every time Susan asks Amy, Amy says, "I just take life as it comes. It seems pretty 7 then. "

So what is the8 between the two friends? Why does Amy's life seem so much better most of the time? The 9 with Susan is that she tries to do so many different things at the same time that she doesn't do any of them well. However, Amy takes everything one step at a time. She stays present in the moment and tells 10 to do just one thing at a time. 

All loving parents want to believe that their child is the smartest in the class. Some will call their child a genius. This is easy to understand. Parents just want to make their child feel confident from a young age. However, calling your child a genius is not the answer. Being a natural genius is not common and many parents mistake real genius. The ability to read or speak a little sooner than other children does not necessarily mean your child is a genius. It probably just means he is a fast learner. To call your child a genius could actually damage his early development. 

The word "genius" will put a lot of stress on some children. The stress to____live up to their parent's expectations could feel too big. Such high expectations are more likely to affect their confidence badly. Some other children may become too confident. This can be bad too. The children may start to believe that they are so smart that they do not have to try hard at school. Studies show that it is better for children's development to praise (称赞) their hard work instead of telling them they are geniuses. 

Do not give your child all the answers, either. Asking your child lots of questions will help him think. Your child also needs time to find out what he is interested in. Do not push him to become interested in something you feel is important. Finally, have proper conversations with your child. Studies show that this helps with language development. 

Whether or not your child is a genius, our advice should help give your child the best possible start in life. 

Chen Beier, a TV host, was going to make a programme about Atule'er, the small village in Sichuan that sits on a cliff(悬崖). People could only get to the top by climbing a 2, 556-step metal ladder(金属爬梯). 

China has reached an important goal(目标). It eradicated extreme poverty(消除绝对贫困). And life has greatly changed in Atule'er too. Years ago, there was no schools for kids to get an education. Many people died because of poor medical condition. There are no more sad facts like these in Atule'er now. Government built schools and hospitals. People can go to school and see a doctor as easily as those in town. 

Now Chen was on her way to Atule'er but it wasn't easy to complete the trip. When Chen was halfway up the ladder, she felt so tired that she could hardly go any further. But the woman set her teeth and continued her climb. Thanks to Chen, people can easily see how life in China's countryside has improved. 

China has changed a lot. Many people outside China, however, couldn't believe it. Now, Chen has shown us what can be done about that: Don't just tell them, show them. 

Nancy is one of my {#blank#}1{#/blank#} friends. We are {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Class 1 Grade 8. She is the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} girl in our class, about 1.64 metres. She is slim and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} long hair.

Nancy is humorous. she can tell funny {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and often makes us laugh. We never feel {#blank#}6{#/blank#} with her. She is helpful, too. And she is ready {#blank#}7{#/blank#} others anytime. I'm not good {#blank#}8{#/blank#} English and she often helps me with my English.

Nancy is a true friend. When something {#blank#}9{#/blank#} me, I can always go to her. I can tell her anything because she can {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a secret.
