Last month, I met a homeless dog when I had a walk with my mother in the park. 1 dog looked dirty and weak with a thin body. I tried to go to him with some food. He shook (摇) his tail and ran 2 toward me. But when he saw 3 mother, he ran away in fear.

I began to pay attention to homeless pets 4 that. Each year, our city has 250,000 homeless 5 and the number has been increasing. What should we do to solve this serious problem? Firstly, the government should pass a law 6 homeless pets. Secondly, , charities (慈善机构) need to 7 money for more shelters (收容所). For the animals living in shelters, we need to provide food 8 medical care.

Gina is a new teacher in a middle school. She lives in San Diego, just fifteen minutes' walk from the beach. So she always 1 along the beach after work. 

Last week was busy but happy for Gina. She. had a lot of work from Monday to Friday. When the weekend came, she decided 2 a good rest. Her weekend began when she met her friends at Sam's Chinese Restaurant on Friday night. "My friends and I all like Chinese food, so we often eat together at that restaurant, " said Gina 3 .

Jean Driscoll was born to be a sport player. Though she was born with a problem in her spine (脊 柱 ), it did not stop her. In fact, she has won the wheelchair division(轮椅组) of the Boston Marathon seven times. She has also won medals in shorter races at the Paralympics.

 As a child, Driscoll had to wear crutches ( 拐 杖) to help her walk. However, she enjoyed sports with other kids and taught herself to ride a bike.

At the age of 14, she fell off her bike and hurt her hip(臀部), with the result that she had to use a wheelchair.

 At first, Driscoll was afraid that being in a wheelchair would mean the end of her sports dream. But a friend introduced her to wheelchair soccer, sparking her interest in wheelchair sports. By the time she entered college, she had become a good sport player in various wheelchair sports, including soccer, tennis, basketball, and ice hockey. When she was in college, she was noticed by a basketball coach.

 Encouraged by the coach, she took part in a marathon race and managed to enter the finals, the Boston Marathon. To prepare for it, she started five months of hard training. She trained six days a week. In the gym, Driscoll lifted 200- pound weights, which were almost twice her body weight. Outdoors Driscoll often ran along the road in, her whee1chair for 40 kilometers without a break. She even trained to climb hills by having three people hold on to the back of her chair.

 Today, Jean Driscoll still remains a top sport player. She travels across the country, giving speeches to motivate kids to do their best. Her message to her audiences is clear and powerful:" Dream big and work hard."

 It was the first time in China that a short-finned pilot whale (短鳍领航鲸), a nationally second-class protected wild animal, was rescued and released into its natural habitat, thanks to the efforts of more than 200 people who joined hands to save the stranded(搁浅) creature. 

 It all began on Jan & rd, when the injured whale was seen stranded on the shores of Haitang Bay in Sanya, Hainan Province. Police, animal experts, and volunteers rushed to the scene, and managed to send the whale to the Sanya Haichang Animal Center. They named it Haitang, after the Haitang Bay where it was found. 

 At first, due to serious lung (肺部) injuries, Haitang faced the risk of turning over and drowning(溺水). To solve this, over 100 volunteers took turns to hold the whale all day long so that it would not turn over. 

 As it slowly recovered, the volunteers moved it to an outdoor pool for a larger space. Months later, its length grew 10 centimeters, as it was fed 14 kilograms of seafood every day. 

 In early May. experts believed that Haitang was ready to return to Mother Nature. After spending some time with human being, it was released into the ocean where it belongs on May25th. Although it was hard to say goodbye, rescuers believed that Haitang had found its group and lived in the area healthily. 

 That year, I was a Junior 2 student. Falling off the stairs hurt me in the head. Almost every- one thought I 1 be dead. But they were wrong. 2 , it was difficult to get back to normal life. I had to leave school and learn everything— walking, talking, and yes, math. 

 To help me, Mrs. Pillar 3 to come to the hospital and later to my house once a week. We began with basic math skills. As time passed by, I made progress. 

I remember very clearly4 she came to my home on Sundays, sat with me at the kitchen table and threw different coins on the table. She asked me to show her 38 cents, 17 cents, 63 cents. It was 5 , but she also made it fun. 

 After a year and a half, I had progressed a lot, both in body and mind, 6 to school. Seven years later, I graduated(毕业) from the University of Texas at the top of my class. 

 As years went by, I7 kept in touch with(与……联系) Mrs. Pillar. Unluckily, one day I was8 that Mrs. Pillar had been in hospital because she suffered a stroke(中风). 

 Now it was my9 to help her. Mrs. Pillar lay in bed, unable to speak or know anybody around. I pulled some coins out of my pocket, dropped 10 on the bed, and asked her to show me 12 cents. The nurse thought that my action was very strange 11 one day Mrs. Pillar smiled happily as I began working with her— just as she had worked with me years before. She made progress every day and was moved out of ICU and12 out of hospital. 

One day, I called to wish her a happy New Year. She spoke 13 the phone excitedly, "Happy New Year to you and your family, Michael. Thank you for 14 you' ve done for me. "I quickly said, "Thank you for everything you' ve done for me, too. "

 Mrs. Pillar was one of my Junior 2 teachers, but she taught me so much more about life than only math:15 really makes wonders. 

What things do you do well? Julian Lage plays the guitar. He plays1 than most people of his age.

Some people say Julian is 2 a guitar whiz(奇才). When he was 13 years old, he already played with some of the top guitar 3 in the country. He performed at a number of music festivals. He even appeared in Grammy Awards Show, which gives prizes to the country's 4 musicians.

Julian was five when his father 5 him the first guitar. Just one year later he surprised people with his amazing talent. He played the guitar so well that a 6 was made about him and showed in the cinema. Julian works hard and keeps on7 even harder. It takes him about five to eight hours each 8 . Julian also works on his music with a guitar teacher.

When do Julian have time for school? He doesn't go to school.9 going to school, he is taught at home. He does his homework first in the morning so that he can10 the rest of the day on his music. Julian is not sure what he will do when he grows up. For now he is happy just to play his guitar.
