With the development of Chinese and Western cultures, more and more people go to different countries  for  exchanging  and  learning.  So  knowing  more  about the differences becomes so

necessary.

First, Western people express themselves directly, while Chinese act oppositely ( 相 反 地 ). Chinese are implicative (含蓄的) most of the time. When Chinese get angry or unsatisfied (不满的), most of them will say nothing. But if you are unsatisfied with a foreigner, you need to speak it out. Don't hide your feelings because he or she doesn't like it or can't understand your thoughts.

Second, the value about things is different between Chinese and Western people. Chinese seem to be more worried about tomorrow, while Western people like to spend tomorrow's money in advance. Western people believe that they should enjoy themselves at the moment and tomorrow is another day. So they enjoy everything they have now, having no clear plans for the future.

But remember, there is no judgement (评判) about which one is better.When    in    Rome,    do    asthe    Romans    do. We just need to know the differences and learn to understand each other. Every country's culture has its own special meaning. What we need to do is to respect (尊重) each other's

culture and gel along with each other peacefully.

A man made his living by collecting coconuts in the countryside.One day，he went to a small village that he had never been before.

Towards the end of the day，his wagon was filled with coconuts.He decided to head home，because it was getting late.He wished to know how long it would take to get back to his village.

He saw an old man along the roadside and stopped to ask for directions.

"Excuse me，" he said， "Could you please tell me how long will it take to get to Carson from this village？When will I get to my home？"

The old man showed him the right direction and said， "If you go slowly，it will take only a short while for you to get home.But if you go quickly

The man could not understand the answer.He didn't believe the old man's suggestion was friendly.He gave the man an angry look and hit his horse to make it hurry.The horse began to run quickly.But soon，coconuts began to fall from the wagon.Each time，the man got off to collect the fallen coconuts and put them back into his wagon.

The faster he went，the more coconuts fell from his wagon，and the more time he had to take to pick them up.So he went home very late at last.However，△ ，and the man would have arrived home much earlier.

And so，as the old man said ，go slowly and it will take only a short while.

For thousands of years，people have lived with dogs. Ancient paintings on the walls of caves（岩洞）show people living with dogs. More than one third of the homes in the United States，Canada，and Australia have dogs. Almost one fourth of the homes in England have dogs. In each country，these dogs come in all shapes and sizes. 

The largest dog in the world was Zorba，a huge mastiff（大驯犬）that died in . When Zorba was seven years old in ，he was centimeters tall. In other words，Zorba was more than half as tall as an adult man. At his largest，Zorba weighed more than kilograms. 

While the smallest dog ever was a Yorkshire Terrier dog named Sylvia from England. This dog was only centimeters tall and just under centimeters from nose to tail. The dog weighed half as much as your English book，and even a young child could easily pick it up with one hand. It died in when it was only two years old. 

Some dogs are unusual，not for their size，but for their brain. One unbelievable dog is Endal，the "family member" of a man named Allen Parton，who has used a wheelchair（轮椅）since a car accident in . 

In 2001 ，Parton was hit by a car while crossing a road with Endal，and thrown out of his chair. Endal quickly moved Parton into the safe position，covered him with a coat，and pushed his mobile phone close enough for him to reach. Then，once he saw that Parton was all right，Endal ran back and forthbetween a nearby hotel and Parton，barking until people came out to help. 

Endal won a prize for his courage and cleverness，and he has been the subject of a number of TV documentaries. 

Why do we go to zoos?Millions of people around the world visit zoos each year,but the reason is hard to explain.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}But the animals they see in zoos are little like the toys,cartoons,and decorations that fill their homes. For such children,meting with real animals can be confusing even upsetting

The great interest that children have in animals today might lead one to suppose that this has always been the case.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}That was also when zoos became an important part of middle-class life.

In a zoo they hope to see the living breathing versions of their character friends. They find instead unfamiliar creatures who cannot speak,smile or interact with them. For this reason,a visit to the zoo can be disappointing for children today. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}Meeting real animals reminds us forcefully of the boundary( 界 限 )between imagination and reality. When we visit animals in a zoo,perhaps we will recall our true relationship not only to animals but to the entire world.
