Last summer I went through a training program and became a volunteer. When I found out what other people's lives were like because they could not read, I realized the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (important) of reading.

Marie is a 44-year-old mother of three children and she is my first student. In the

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (one) lesson, she told me that she {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (walk) miles to the supermarket twice a week because she didn't know how {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(take) a bus. She said she also had trouble in the supermarket. She bought things just by their pictures {#blank#}5{#/blank#}she didn't know words. If the thing that she wanted to buy had a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (difference) picture, she would not recognize(认出) it.

As we worked together, learning {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to read built Marie's confidence(信心).She started to make great progress. She even took the bus to the supermarket once. After this {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (succeed) trip, she felt very excited.

{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(help) Marie made me feel so happy. As a volunteer, I learned a lot about teaching and helping others. In fact, I learned {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(much) from the experience than Marie did.

Many kids help parents to do chores in the house. They may take out the trash,walk the dog or clean the floor. In return, some kids get money or other rewards(报酬) from their parents, such as 20 minutes to play computer games.

But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores.One of them is Jane Smith, a family educator(教育者). She believes if kids get rewards, they may think that work isn't worth(值得) doing unless you get something in return. For example, kids won't clean the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will do it if their parents reward them for it.

"Every house is a teamwork,"Jane said."A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It's important for kids to see that we all have a responsibility(责任) to keep our home clean."

Other people have different opinions. They believe that money or other rewards encourage(鼓励) kids to do more chores. It also teaches them real world lessons.

They can learn about how we need to work to make money.

Now, there are also apps that encourage kids to do chores. The apps give kids points and digital(电子的) gifts that can be used either online or in life. With the Chore Monster, kids get digital points after doing chores. Kids can exchange their.points for real rewards, such as time to play video games or a trip to the mall."Our purpose(目的) is to encourage kids so they can get rewards,"says Joe Black, the founder(创始人) of Chore Monster."Kids need positive(积极的) power to make them do chores."

The octopus(章鱼) usually has eight legs.But Ollie, the octopus, has only seven ones. Ollie's mum always feels 1 about it.

At home, Ollie's brother and sister 2 her. "Ollie has only seven legs so she is not our family," her sister Olivia says. But it isn't true. 

"Go away. I don't want to play with 3 ." her brother Oscar tells Ollie.

Ollie is really sad. She swims away and starts 4 . Then, a sea fairy(仙女) comes out, " Don't cry, little octopus, "the fairy says. "You can make three wishes."

Ollie thinks for a minute, and makes the 5 wish. "I hope my mum can always be happy." She says.

 "OK. Now you have two more wishes." the fairy says.

 "I hope Olivia can be honest(诚实的). And I hope Oscar can be 6 ."

 "You are so kind, little octopus. I 7 you all the best." the fairy says and swims away.

When Ollie gets home, her mum gives her a big smile. 8 Olivia and Oscar say "Come and play with us, little sister." Ollie is happy. Her wishes 9 .

On Ollie's birthday, she makes a wish for the 10 leg. The next day, she has the same number of legs as her sister and brother! Great!

I'm Tony.From a young age，I began to love skiing.I have skied since I was eight or nine years old.But once in the USA I was close to death.

It was April 1st，2011.I skied in the Tetons with my friends Jeremy and Xavier.While I was skiing，they were watching me in a safe area，and then covered me.It was so heavy that I couldn't move.And then it pushed me forward again.

I looked down into the bottom of the valley（山谷）. "OK，I'm going all the way to the bottom!" I thought.Then the snow pushed me again down the mountains.I thought the snow would destroy me.But in the end

It took Jeremy and Xavier about 20 minutes to find me.They couldn't believe it when they saw me.I was so lucky.

Has the experience changed me？Do I think about life differently？I don't know，but I do know that it's important to live your life seriously.Life is a gift，so use it wisely.
