When Justin Tong was a child, other kids felt sorry for him. His parents always had him doing lots of housework such as carrying out the rubbish and sending newspapers. But when he grew up, he was better off than his childhood friends and lived a happier and healthier life.

This is the finding of a 40-year study that followed the lives of 456 children in London. It showed that the children who had worked hard in childhood had a richer and a happier future. "Children who worked in the home or community gained competence(能力) and came to feel they were worthwhile members of society," said Daniel Brown, the psychologist(心理学家) who made the discovery. "And because they felt good about themselves, others felt good about them."

Brown's study followed these children in great detail. Interviews were repeated at ages 25, 31 and 47. Under Brown, the researchers compared the children's mental-health scores with their childhood-activity scores. Points were awarded for part-time jobs, housework, effort in school, and ability to deal with problems.

    Working at any age is important. Childhood activities help a child develop responsibility, independence, confidence and competence — the underpinnings (基础) of emotional health. They also help him understand that people must cooperate and work toward common goals. The most competent adults are those who know how to do this.

    Yet work isn't everything. As Tolstoy once said, "One can live magnificently in this world if one knows how to work and how to love, to work for the person one loves and to love one's work."

A model of the Legoland Shanghai Resort(上海乐高乐园度假区模型) made its first appearance in November 2022. 40 designers and model builders spent  {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (一半) a year working on it.

The resort covers an area of more than 318,000 square meters in Jinshan District which is very  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(方便) for visitors to go to. It will be made up of a theme (主题) park and a theme hotel. In the theme park, visitors will find most of the popular rides(游乐设施) of Legoland parks around the world.

The park will  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(包括) 8 areas. One of them is Monkie Kid, which became a new logo theme in 2020. It's based on the Monkey King. It was designed in 2019 to  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(连接) Chinese children with the traditional culture. Also, it will be  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (流行) with the children from other countries.

The construction of Legoland Shanghai Resort began in November 2021. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (所有事物) is now going well with the project. What's more, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (在……旁边) it is a big shopping  {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (商场). And there are also some other buildings  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(在附近). The resort will be open to the  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (民众) in 2025. There will be a lot of fun for many families with kids, so it is expected to become a new tourist attraction (旅游景点).

When Daniel was 26, he spent a year travelling around America. He visited all 50 states and worked for a week in each one. He didn't use buses or planes — he {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (travel) by car from job to job. He earned money for every job he did but hotels were too expensive for him. He {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (usual) stayed in his boss's home. Sometimes he stayed with one of the other {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (worker). "People were very good to me," says Daniel. "I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (look) after really well."

But {#blank#}5{#/blank#} did Daniel do this? "I wanted to travel and learn about my country," he says. "And I expect {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (try) lots of different jobs." Things weren't always easy {#blank#}7{#/blank#} Daniel. In week 7, he worked as {#blank#}8{#/blank#} farmer in Nebraska. "The days were long and I got really dirty," he says. In week 38, he was a cook in a fish restaurant in Maryland. "{#blank#}9{#/blank#} was really boring to work there! Often I didn't even have time to drink water. Other jobs were much {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (interesting)." He worked in a theme park in Florida and worked as a model in North Carolina. In Alaska, he was a photographer. "That was great. Alaska is a very beautiful place," says Daniel.

Brenda was a girl with one big dream. She wanted to play the 1 in a band. But there was one problem. To be good enough to play in a band, Brenda had to 2 a lot. But she lived next to a lot of old people. The sound of beating drums would make them feel 3 .

 Antonio didn't like what Shylock said. "No. I'd rather pay some interest if I'm late on the payment."

"I'm afraid that's no good," said Shylock as he laughed. "Do you think I'd take money from another moneylender? Besides, this agreement is only a joke! Do you think that any lawyer or judge would believe me? Would they really believe that I want a pound of your flesh? You don't have to worry about anything!"

 Antonio agreed to the conditions. They went to a lawyer and signed an agreement.
