Joe Hoagland was three years old when the story began. And Fonzie is a dolphin (海豚).

When Joe was born, he had a problem with his heart and doctors had to operate (动手术) on him. The operation didn't go well and he couldn't move the left side of his body. The doctors at the hospital didn't think he could get better.

His mother Deena took him to different places for treating. Joe liked being in the water and Deena thought swimming could help him. One day, she went with Joe to a place called Dolphin Plus, where people swam with dolphins. Joe met Fonzie there and the story began.

Soon, Joe wanted to see Fonzie every day. Joe loved playing with him and feeding him. Joe always fed Fonzie with his left hand. Slowly, he got better and better. Deena saw that Joe's friendship with Fonzie helped him a lot, and she knew it was a good idea for other people, too. So, she and her family worked to open a place called Island Dolphin Care. Many people with health problems came to spend time with the dolphins. Sadly, Fonzie died when Joe was 17. Joe wrote: Fonzie was a great friend to me. We shared a lot of good times. I will always remember him.

One year, a college in the Unites States announced that it would offer a lot of money for the pure white marigold(金盏花). The high reward attracted so many people, but in the nature, besides golden, the marigold is brown, and it is not easy to get the white one. So after they were excited for a time, many people had forgotten the announcement.

One normal day after 20 years, the college received a letter and 100 seeds of pure white marigold. It turned out to be anold woman of over 70 years old. Some experts in the college doubted it , but in order not to let her down, those seedsfinally took root(根) in the earth. The miracle appeared after one year: the field was covered by pure white marigold.

Therefore, the old woman who was always unknown to the public became a newfocus.

The old woman was a flower-lover. When she read the announcement 20 years ago, she got very excited like others. But her right children were totally against her decision. After all, a woman who never knew the seed genetics(遗传学)  couldn't complete what the experts could never do, so her thought was only a daydream.

Still, the old woman didn't change her mind and went on working. She planted some of the most common seeds and took good care of them. A year later, when the marigold came out, she chose one faintest(最暗淡的) from those golden and brown flowers and get the best seed. The next year, she again grew them and chose…. Day after day, year after year, through many seasons, the old woman's husband died, her children flew far and high, a lot of things happened in her life, but only the desire to grow the pure white marigold took root in her heart.

Finally, after 20 years on the day we all know, in the gardenshe saw a marigold which was not nearly white, but as white as sliver or snow.

A problem even experts couldn't deal with was solved by an old woman who didn't understand genetics. Wasn't it a miracle?

To take root in the heart, even the most common seed can grow into a miracle!

There is a story behind the idiom tuibi sanshe. During the Spring and Autumn Period, Prince Chong'er of the Jin State ran away from his home state because of a conflict(冲突). He1 from the state of Jin and lived in exile(流亡生活) for years.

After many hardships, Chong'er came to the state of Chu. The king of Chu believed that he must 2 in the future. So he regarded him as an important guest and 3 him a feast(盛宴). The two drank and talked, and the atmosphere was very harmonious(和谐的). Suddenly,the king asked Chong'er, "If you rule the state of Jin one day, 4 would you thank me?" "It seems the state of Chu has various treasures you want. I have 5 valuable to offer you," Chong'er said. The king said, "You're too modest. But thanks should be given." Chong'er thought for a while and said,"If I could be a king one day, I'd like to have good 6 with you. And I'll ask my soldiers to retreat( 撤退) sanshe if we ever fight."

Four years later, Chong'er 7 to his home state and became its ruler. Under his rule, the state of Jin grew stronger and stronger. Unfortunately, both of the two went to war with each other in 633 BC.

Jin Wengong didn't break his 8 , and he ordered his soldiers to retreat sanshe in Chengpu. The Chu soldiers thought that the Jin solders were 9 to fight, so they followed them. The Jin soldiers took advantages of the Chu soldiers' weakness in looking down upon enemies, and surrounded(包围)them. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}         10 , Jin won the war. This was the famous Battle of Chengpu. After this war, people used tuibi sansheto mean retreating avoid a conflict.

Do you have any close friends? I'm sure you do. Everyone has a 1 friend or two. 

I recently learned an interesting lesson about the power of 2 . It was a story about two friends—a Canadian girl named Jessica Stuart and a Japanese girl named Fukue. Stuart's parents got new jobs in Japan and moved there to 3 when she was a child. After Stuart met Fukue at school, they became good friends. Stuart often 4 Fukue from bullies (欺凌弱小者). After one year, Stuart's family moved back home. Stuart and Fukue stayed in 5 by writing letters to each other. 6 , after two years, Fukue's letters stopped coming. Stuart was confused (困惑不解的). Why did the letters stop? She began a long journey to find her 7 friend again. Many years later, she found Fukue. Both girls were adults by then. It 8 that Fukue dropped out of school because she was bullied again. That happened after Stuart 9 . Luckily, they were able to find each other again, 10 after many years apart. 

Not every friendship can last forever. People come and go. But true friends can find a way to stay together forever—even if they've been far apart for a long time. 

Reading an English newspaper is a good way to improve a student's language ability. As there are many useful words in an English newspaper, it may help students increase their vocabulary as well as improve their reading skills. They can learn new knowledge from the newspaper. But what is the right way to read an English newspaper? Do students need to look over all the words of the newspaper?

The first step is to choose a right newspaper with good language. Then turn to the front page and read the headlines to know what has happened. As the most important things are on the front page, it's easy to find out the article you're interested in and then turn to the page to read the whole of it. There is no need to go through all the articles. 

Secondly, read newspapers every day. Remember words through context(上下文). Once they appear several times, you will remember them easily. Don't look up every new word in your dictionary. You can try to guess the meaning between sentences. If you are wrong, don't give up. Keep reading and you will know the words better after reading them several times in different texts. 

Reading English newspapers makes us learn more. It can not only help us know what is happening in the world but also improve our language. 

I am sitting in an empty football field after my last high school football game that finished a few hours ago. I'm the midfield player(中场球员) in my team. But in fact that's not 1 now.  I was the midfield player because, as I said, this was my 2 game. That's a good way to end  a high school football career(生涯), especially if you win, but even though you don't, it's good to 3 at a high point.
