Mum and I wanted to do something exciting during the summer vacation, so she 1  that we take the train to Grandma's house. Grandma lived far from our 2 , so we would spend one day and one night on the 3  just getting there.

On the day of our trip, Mum and I went to the train station. The train 4  and we got on. It seemed 5  and cool inside, compared to the bright, warm day outside. The conductor(检票员) took our 6  and showed us to the car(车厢) which we would ride in. Soon the train pulled away from the station. Outside the windows, the town buildings 7  gave way to the countryside. From time to time, children who lived near the tracks(轨道) would run out to wave 8  we passed.

At lunchtime, Mum and I had our meals in the dining car. There were different kinds of foods. It was9  being in a restaurant on wheels(轮子)! At bedtime, we went to our sleeping compartment. There were four beds in the compartment. My bed was above my mum's. I had to 10  into bed. The moving of the train made it  11  for me to sleep. I fell asleep soon.

When 12 came, we were near the countryside where Grandma lived. Mum and I quickly dressed and 13  our things. As the train slowed to a stop, we saw Grandma waving at 14  . Spending the week with Grandma would be wonderful, 15  I was already looking forward to the train ride back home.

A boy finds a penguin (企鹅) at his door. He doesn't know where it comes from, but it always follows (跟随) him everywhere. The boy thinks it must be lost. So he goes to the Lost and Found Office, but no one is looking for a penguin. That night, the boy can't sleep well. Because he wants to help the penguin, but he isn't sure how to help.

The next morning he finds in a book that penguins usually come from the South Pole (南极). So he takes his small boat out to sea with the penguin. It takes them many days and many nights to the south. He tells stories to the penguin on the way to the South Pole, they are happy all the time. Finally, they get to the South Pole. When the boy says goodbye and leaves, he finds the penguin sad, staying there.

The boy feels strange on his way home. No one listens to his stories. Then he thinks carefully and knows that maybe the penguin isn't lost. It just feels lonely (孤单的). He quickly turns the boat around and gets back to the South Pole as fast as he can. But he can't find the penguin. 

When he gets home, the penguin is at his door again! The two friends meet each other happily!

It was a lovely 1 afternoon. My classmates and I were playing happily on the playground when I let out a 2 , "OW! OW! Something in my shoe is biting me."

Everyone was shocked by the cry. They took me into a classroom and3 take off my shoe. "Which foot is it?" one asked. "Let us have a look."

Suddenly, I remembered the holes in my socks. My family was very poor during those years. I wore welfare socks, which 4 only a little, but those cheap welfare socks didn't 5 long. Soon there were holes at the bottom. 

I refused to take off my shoe. I couldn't 6 others seeing the holes in my sock. I tried to7 my tears. Yet, each time the thing in my shoe bit me, tears raced down my face. 

My teacher, Miss Diane, hurried into the 8 . "What's wrong?" she asked. 

"Something is biting her right foot,9 she doesn't let us take off her shoe," one of my classmates answered. 

Miss Diane lived next door to me. She knew 10 about my family. She put both hands on my shaking shoulders and looked into my painful and hopeless eyes. 

"Oh, yes, it must be a sock-eating ant," she said,11 she had already seen the thing inside the shoe. "I had a bite from one of those ants. By the time I took my shoe off, it had eaten 12 the whole bottom of my sock." My classmates nodded while they were listening to the teacher 13 , although they all looked a little puzzled. 

Miss Diane took off my right shoe and sock and shoot them over the dustbin. Two red ants 14 into it. 

"Just like what I thought, the ants have eaten part of her sock." When she placed an alcohol (酒精) cotton ball on the bites, she added, "You are such a brave girl to take so many bites."

The alcohol made me feet cool on the hot afternoon and a little girl's 15 was saved by the "sock–eating ant" story.

My name is Kevin. I'm a 13-year-old student from 1 middle school in Shang hai. In the past, I had some bad habits. I hardly had breakfast 2 I usually got up late. I didn't like exercising. In the evening, I always 3 TV for more than two hours. I liked to spend lots of hours playing different computer 4 . So I often stayed up late. My parents thought it was bad for my health, so they were worried about 5 .
