There are some snack shopsinside schools in China. These shops sell snacks1a lot of salt and sugar. Many youngstudents like2 snacks. Becausethey think snacks taste good. They often go there3 some after class.But eating4 snacks is not good for5 health.6 theChinese government( 政 府 ) said there wouldbe7 snack shops in the schools from April 1st.

There is also a new8 on students' food safety. The government isasking schools to keep an eye on students'9.It asks teachers to10 with students at school together at the lunchtime.

Some volunteers in Egypt（埃及） are teaching the children of refugee(难民 ){#blank#}1{#/blank#} from many African countries.

Chris Rupke teaches at the African Hope School in Ma'adi,{#blank#}2{#/blank#} town near Cairo. Rupke says that some of the children he teaches{#blank#}3{#/blank#}one or both of their parents. Rupke adds that one boy was so badly influenced {#blank#}4{#/blank#}his experience that he was unable to speak. Then, a psychologist（心理学家） at the school got him to draw pictures of everything that had happened before.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, after {#blank#}6{#/blank#}the pictures and working with the psychologist, the boy started to talk. Now, the boy is much {#blank#}7{#/blank#} than before.

Teacher Jean-Pie has worked at the African Hope School {#blank#}8{#/blank#} 2003.

Jean-Pie said that when he began, he met 6 refugee children under Cairo's bridges and in its public gardens. He tried his best{#blank#}9{#/blank#} them to come to school. At the refugee schools, most classesare taught in English. The students learn Maths, Arabic, Science, etc.

All the teachers there are nice and responsible（有责任感的）. They hope what they have done can really make a big{#blank#}10{#/blank#}to those refugee children.

Do you know what the body mass index（BMI, 体重指数）is? According to the National Health Service, BMI is a measure（测量方法）that uses your height and weight to work out if you are fit. 

Some cities in China have included BMI in the PE test for the high school entrance examination, or zhongkao. For example, Beijing in 2021 announced that BMI officially became a subject of the PE test for the zhongkao. Chengdu and Shanghai have also started similar actions. BMI in cities like Xiamen, although not included in the zhongkao, still plays a role in regular PE tests. 

Zhang Yanshu is a grade 8 student from Beijing Chaoyang Foreign Language School. He used to be overweight. "It was this summer that I decided to work on my BMI, " Zhang said. He started by running with his dad, and soon took a stamina（体能）course which trained him for different things like running, pull-ups and so on. "I think BMI and the events for the exam go well together. When I practice the events, my BMI gets better; when my BMI gets better, I feel more energetic（精力充沛的）doing the events. "

Zhang also paid much attention to his diet. "I ate brown rice instead of white rice, and chicken for meat most of the time, " he said. "It was for sure sad. " His BMI reached a normal level after four months of effort（努力）"My health and willpower（意志力）have seen a big improvement. "

Chen Kaifei, 14, also from Beijing said that BMI is also a problem for students who are too thin, and has caused some"figure anxiety（身材焦虑）"among students. "However, mostly I think it has a good influence, " Chen said. "Everyone has a better understanding of their body and health conditions, and I started to care about my diet and lifestyle every day, simply to keep my BMI at a good level. "

 At school, students learn some different subjects in the classroom. These days, a new subject becomes popular. That is school gardening. Students learn it outside the classroom.

    ▲     . Some teachers, however, are finding good ways to make it work. The school garden may be very small. However, students can have a lot of fun in it. At first, teachers decide (决定) what vegetables to grow. Then they grow them with students. It is nice for the students to get a tomato, wash it and eat it right in the garden, so tomatoes are their favorites.

 Gardening is not only an interesting subject but also a practical subject. It teaches students a lot. Some vegetables are easy to grow, but others need a long time. This can teach students patience(耐心). With gardens, kids get to see a beginning, a middle and an end to their work. When working with others, they can also learn some teamwork (团队合作) skills.

 Gardening is not just a hobby, it's a life skill.
