Many expressions(表达方式) we use in American English come from movies and books. Today we will learn some expressions from Lewis Carol's famous book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. This book is better known as Alice in Wonderland.

The story is about a young girl falling for a long time down a rabbit hole. When she finally lands, she finds herself in a strange world. In this strange world are some of the most popular characters in children's books. Many of the expressions from the book have found their way into American English.

The first character Alice meets is the White Rabbit. The White Rabbit is not a usual rabbit. Alice chases (追赶) after him, and that is where her adventures begin.

In English, "chasing a white rabbit" means to chase an impossible dream. "Following the white rabbit" means you are in the middle of an unusual situation. This situation often challenges your thinking and changes your life. Like "chasing a white rabbit", "falling down the rabbit hole" means we get interested in something else and lose ideas about time.

Later in the story, Alice is the guest at a tea party— a crazy tea party! There she meets the March Hare. The hare seems to be truly crazy. To be "mad as a March hare" means that someone is completely mad or crazy.

Using expressions from popular books can add special flavor(味道). And when used properly, they also show you have a deeper understanding of the English language.

About 10 years ago, I started a job as a trainer. In one of my first classes, the head trainer told us a story.

He began by drawing a man standing in the middle of a circle. To make it more interesting, he drew things like a house, a car, and a few friends inside the circle.

He asked the question," Can anyone tell me what this is?"In a long silence, one guy decided to speak out," The world?" The trainer said, "That's close. Actually, this is your Comfort Area. Inside your circle, you feel very comfortable. You have all the things that are important to your home, your family, your friends and your job. People feel that inside this circle they are safe from any danger."

" Can anyone tell me what happens when you step out of this circle?"A strong silence came over the room. At last, the same guy started," You are afraid." Another guy said," You make mistakes." The silence continued and the trainer smiled and said," When you make mistakes, what can the result be?" The first guy shouted," You learn something."

"Quite right, you are learning." The trainer turned to the board and drew an arrow(箭头)pointing from the man to the outside of the circle.  He continued to say," When you leave your Comfort Area you put yourself out there, in front of the world to be in situations that you are not comfortable with. The end result is that you have learned something that you did not know and you slowly become a better person." He turned again to the board and drew a bigger circle around the first one, and added a few new things like more friends, a bigger house, etc.

The moral of the story is that if you stay inside your Comfort Area, you will never be able to expand your horizons(开阔视野)and learn. When you step out of your Comfort Area you will finally make your circle bigger and your mind grow stronger, and all in all a better person."

 A. 请阅读下面短文, 根据语篇内容, 在空白处填入恰当的单词, 使短文通顺、连贯、并将答案写在答题卡相应的位置上。每空一词。

These days, we easily feel stressed as the work we need to do grows more and more. It's important to know {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to solve problems and find ways to relax.

First, we should try organizing our problems from most important to least important as well as most urgent(紧急的)to least urgent. If some problems are both important and urgent, do those things first. Once those are done, work on things {#blank#}2{#/blank#} are important but not urgent. After that, we can work on problems that are less important. In this way we can clearly know what to do first and not worrying about the rest, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} we might easily feel stressed out with so much work to do.

Sometimes we are still under pressure after sorting out(分类)our work. That's OK. We can try to add some exercise to our weekly plan. It doesn't need to go on a big trip for several hours, although that surely helps. It could be something as small as walking around the neighborhood for ten to twenty {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

Finally, we can try meditation(冥想). Again, it can be a simple thing. Just set ten to twenty minutes with an alarm, sit straight, close our eyes, and focus only on breathing, If other thoughts come up, accept that they are there and let them fly away on their own.

By trying these steps, we will feel {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and peaceful when finishing all of the work.

 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

①In most places in the world today, it is easy to find healthy food. With supermarkets, buying healthy food like fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat is easy and convenient(便利的). However, it is also easy to find unhealthy food today. Supermarkets and other stores sell good food, but they also sell frozen foods and junk food like chips, candy, and cookies. A lot of food today has chemicals(化学药品). Research has shown that many of these chemicals are bad for our health. So did people in the past eat healthier than we do today?

②A century ago, people didn't eat junk food or frozen food. Instead, they ate natural foods without chemicals. On the other hand, their natural foods were not always as good as food today. In the past, meat often came from sick animals. It's not healthy to eat meat from a sick animal. In most places today, laws make sure that food is safe.

③In most countries today, we can buy a variety(各种)of foods. We can buy oranges in the winter and apples in the summer. Healthy fruits and vegetables are available(可获得的)at any time of year. These foods come from all over the world. In the past, this kind of variety was not possible. People could eat certain foods only in certain seasons.

④We also eat much more meat, sugar, fattening foods, and chemicals today than people did a century ago. Studies show that these things can cause(引起)heart disease(疾病)and a variety of other health problems. However, people live much longer now. Today, the average(平均)person lives for 70 to 80 years. However,100 years ago, the average person lived for only about 50 years. People live longer because we have better medicine now. But people also have longer lives because healthy food is usually available.

⑤So ____? Yes and no. People in the past did eat more natural food than we do now. But, in some ways, we also eat better today. We can eat healthier today than people did in the past. We just have to choose to eat good foods.
