    Hello, everyone! It's nine o'clock. Welcome to GMTV's Music & Stories Show. I'm the host, Wang Chunxue. We all know that music plays an important (重要的) part in everyone's life. It can make people happy or sad (悲伤). Babies and young children would like others to sing to them. When they are a little older, they like to sing the songs they have heard. After children go to school, their world of music grows (扩大). In the middle grades students take music lessons. When they go to high schools, they are interested in pop music.

    Well, in today's program, we'll listen to the People's Musician, Xian Xinghai's songs. Do you know Xian Xinghai? He's from Macao, China. He brought western and Chinese music together. He's famous (出名的) for the song The yellow River. He wrote this song in 1939 in only six days. OK, let's listen to the wonderful song The Yellow River.

    My school is named the City of London School for Girls. This year is the 125th anniversary of the founding(建立) of it. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Celebratory events will be held throughout the year, including concerts workshops and summer fairs. Students and teachers will receive badges(徽章) that say “City of London School for Girls 125”. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} A businessman named William Ward established (建立) our school in 1894. At that time, there was little opportunity for girls to get an education, especially those from poor families.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Girls were not expected to go to secondary school or get a university education. But Ward had high hopes for young women's futures. He thought women should have more influence in society, as well as the ability to realize their dreams.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Our newest school building is modern-looking. It opened with 446 students on Sept 18, 1969.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Opposite the school, there is part of the wall of a great Roman fort(罗马堡垒) built in 120.

    Today is Sunday. Mrs. Smith wants to go shopping. She needs to buy many things for her family. She wants to buy bread, milk, vegetables and fruit.     There was once a stone(石头) in the center of the garden of a family. Whenever the family passed through the garden, they would always make a detour(绕路) round the stone.

    One day, the son said to his father, "I hate that stone. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}"The father said, "It was there when your grandfather was alive. It is so big .I'm afraid we can't move it. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}"

    Twenty years later, the son grew up and had his own son. One day, his son said to him, "There is a big stone in the garden. Shall we move it?" He said, "That stone is too heavy. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}"But the son made up his mind to move it.

    One morning, the son brought some tools(工具) to the garden. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} He thought it would take him the whole day to move the stone. To his surprise, he spent only ten minutes before the stone was moved. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Protect Yourself When Home Alone

There are many things that you should be careful with when you are at home alone. Read the following solutions(方法) to protect yourself.

Keep the door locked when you are at home alone. Many people think it's the best way to protect themselves.

Keep a list of phone numbers to call for help such as 110, the police station or a neighbour's number.

Be careful with the electrical appliances(电器). If you don't know how to use them, ask your parents. Make a safety check before going to sleep.

Look through the peephole(窥视孔) when you hear the doorbell ring. If there are strangers, ask" Who's that?" with the door locked and say" Come back later". Don't tell them that your parents are away. Say" Mum's having a shower" or" Dad's having a sleep". To ignore(忽视) the doorbell is not a good idea because sometimes bad people ring doorbells to see if anyone's at home.
