Hello, everyone! It's nine o'clock. Welcome to GMTV's Music & Stories Show. I'm the host, Wang Chunxue. We all know that music plays an important (重要的) part in everyone's life. It can make people happy or sad (悲伤). Babies and young children would like others to sing to them. When they are a little older, they like to sing the songs they have heard. After children go to school, their world of music grows (扩大). In the middle grades students take music lessons. When they go to high schools, they are interested in pop music.
Well, in today's program, we'll listen to the People's Musician, Xian Xinghai's songs. Do you know Xian Xinghai? He's from Macao, China. He brought western and Chinese music together. He's famous (出名的) for the song The yellow River. He wrote this song in 1939 in only six days. OK, let's listen to the wonderful song The Yellow River.
Hi, Sam! I'm happy to hear that you are taking a trip to Beijing again. We can have fun together soon. In your email, you say you want to take a trip around Beijing. Well, Beijing is the capital of China. So it is a very beautiful city. It has a long history. There are many great places to visit. Do you like the Great Wall? If you do, we can go to Huanghuacheng Great Wall. It's 70km from the city centre. Huanghuacheng is different from Badaling. It's a place with hills and lakes. You love water, right? Then we can visit Gubei Watertown. It's in the north of Beijing. We can climb the green hills and row(划)a boat on the river. Oh, you must like the lantern shops there. You can buy one and light it in the evening. It's beautiful. Baiyangdian Lake is a great place, too. It's not in Beijing, but we can take a bus there. It takes only two hours. There, you can see beautiful lotus flowers(荷花)and birds. There are all kinds of delicious foods in Beijing. And Beijing roast duck is the most famous. We can try it. Are you interested in these places? I can't wait to meet you here in Beijing. Yours, Li Lei |

Should mobile phones be allowed at school?
{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Some mobile phones are more than just phones-they are being used as radios, cameras and MP4 players, and they are also used to send e-mails or surf the Internet. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
People have different ideas about whether students should use mobile phones at school or not, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If their parents have something important to tell then, they can call their teachers for help. If someone's mobile phone rings during a Chinese class, he and his classmates can't concentrate on what the teacher is saying. Some parents also point out that their children often use their mobile phones to download(下载) unhealthy information from the Internet. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}
Other people believe that we can find some ways to use mobile phones to help students learn better in the classroom, since many of today's mobile phones are like mini computers. And children usually know more than adults about how to use new technology. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
What are your answers to the question?
A. They are really worried about this. B. Some of them can even be used as mini computers. C. More and more students are using mobile phones at school now. D. Why not use mobile phones in the classroom? E. Some people think that students don't really need mobile phones. |
Sometimes, it seems that with all the homework and stress, being a student can be the worst thing. For people who are being bullied (欺凌), however, having too much work to do is the least of their worries.
Bullying comes in many different forms. It could be someone hitting you, someone sending you terrible messages on social media, or someone saying bad words to you. No matter how it happens, being bullied is never a nice experience.
Being bullied can do great harm to a child's personal development. It is hard for bullying victims to trust others. They often feel angry, no valuable, helpless and lost. And these feelings will further undermine(破坏) their ability to control their own life.
So if you or someone you know is being bullied, how should you deal with it?
Well, you need to find out why the bully is acting this way. The reasons behind school bullying are various. Children are now more easily influenced by violence in both real life and online. They want to gain power by bullying other students. Usually, they pick on the nicest or most well behaved person. Because this kind of persons seldom fight back. Some left-behind children become bullies because they lack (缺失) family education.
Whatever the reason is, there are many different ways to deal with a bully. The clearest way is to share your problem with someone else. All bullying is wrong. It is important that you talk about the problem with someone you can trust. Usually the best way to end your problem is to talk to your teacher or parents. Or, in some cases, standing up to the bullies may change their behavior. If they know that their bullying doesn't work on you any more, they may stop. What's more, parents and schools should devote more time and efforts to the troubled children.
Most importantly, remember this: If you're being bullied, it's not your fault. There's always someone to help you—you just need to ask first.

According to the traditional Chinese custom, 2018 is just the year of Dog. Ranking as the eleventh animal in the Chinese zodiac-the Shengxiao, Dog is a symbol of loyalty(忠诚)and honesty.
①
Words and phrases including dogs (Gou in Chinese) are commonly used by young people when telling jokes about themselves. For example, you can say "Valentine's Day has nothing to do with me since I am a single dog." It is believed that dog related words and phrases usually have good humour.
②
Among some young people, adding“dog”to a friend's name has the meaning of a close relationship. One of the most famous examples in China is that the actor Lin Gengxin is called Lin Gou by his close friends and fans.
③
Kids with pleasant names are easy to bring up, according to an ancient Chinese saying. Parents in the countryside prefer to give nicknames(绰号)including Gou Sheng and Gou Dan to their kids in the hope that they are as easy to be raised as dogs.
④
Since dogs are considered to have many good qualities(品质), the word is included in more than 10 Chinese metaphors. For example, "serve like a dog or a horse" is used to describe someone who is ready to work hard for the people who have powers.
