Helen Has Changed

" Wake up, everybody." Robin shouted." It is time for us to find another rich guest to pay for our feast." Little John woke up slowly.

" You go west, and I go east. We try to find the richest man and bring him here!"

 Robin walked for miles and saw many people but none of them were rich. But when he was eating, he saw a knight.

 Robin said hello to him. The knight stopped, but said nothing. His face was full of sadness." You need a good feast to cheer you up!" said Robin."I have no reason to be happy," said the knight" My name is Robin Hood. Who are you?" For a moment, the knight's eyes grew wide. He knew all about Robin Hood's feasts."I am Sir Richard Lea," he said," but I have no money to give you for your feast." Robin asked," You are a knight, and knights are rich men."

 Sir Richard sighed." My son killed another knight by accident and I had to pay a huge fine. To get the money, I had to borrow from the Priory of Emmet. Now I must return that money to the Priory or lose my land and my castle." Robin felt sorry for the knight." Come with me and perhaps I can help you." he said. Sir Richard agreed and followed Robin back to Sherwood Forest.

 When they arrived at the camp, Robin told him to enjoy himself. Then Robin asked Little John." Did you find a rich guest?" Little John laughed." Yes, I did." and brought forward his guest and Robin recognized(认出) him at once. It was" The Bishop of Hereford!" Robin said." We meet again. Welcome to our feast." The bishop was furious(愤怒的), but he didn't say anything. He was too afraid of Robin.

 Just then Robin saw there was a box tightly held in his hands.

 Robin shot the box with his sword. The box hit the ground and thousands of gold coins fell out of it. Sir Richard came forward and Robin pointed to him," Do you know this man?" Robin asked the bishop" Yes," replied the bishop." Does he owe you money?"" He owes money to the Priory of Emmet and I am the bishop for the Priory."

 Robin said," Many people say you are the richest bishop in England." Robin started to count the coins and said,"I think you have plenty of money and you want to help Sir Richard." When there were five hundred gold coins in Robin's hands, he gave them to Sir Richard." Take this," he said," and pay your fine."

 Soon, Sir Richard left with the five hundred gold coins. He thanked Robin Hood and said," One day, I hope I can repay your great favour."

 After that, Robin freed the bishop. The bishop left the camp quietly without all his money but when he was far away and no one could hear him, he said:" One day, I am going to make Robin Hood very, very sorry for stealing all my money. Wait and see."

 My name is Henry Adams. When I was 27, I worked in San Francisco. One Saturday afternoon, I sailed my little boat but a strong wind pushed my boat into the Pacific Ocean. Luckily, I was saved by a British ship heading to London.

I had only one dollar when I arrived in I ondon. I was tired and hungry. At that moment, the window of a nearby house opened and a man said to me," Come in here, please."I was taken to a beautiful room. There were two old gentlemen discussing something.      ①     

 The two gentlemen were brothers.      ②      One brother said, " If an honest and clever stranger arrives in London without friends and money, except for a £1,00,000 bank note, he will starve to death. If he goes to the bank to change this big note, the police will think he stole it and arrest(逮捕) him." The other brother answered,‘ No,I disagree."

 The two gentlemen decided to end their argument with a be t(赌约).      ③      They chose me because I had an honest, clever face. Also,I was a stranger to England. One of them gave me an envelope and told me not to open it until I was in my hotel room.

     ④      After leaving the house, I opened the envelope and saw money inside of it! I rushed to the nearest restaurant. After eating, I tried to pay with the money but discovered that it was a bank note worth five million dollars! It made my head swim. No one could possibly cash(兑现金) it. The owner said," You can pay for the meal whenever you want, sir. I understand that you are a rich gentleman. You like playing jokes on people by dressing like a poor man."

I quickly returned to the house but was told that they had left on a trip. Then I remembered the letter inside the envelope. It said, " In this envelope you will find some money. It is yours for only 30 days. At the end of that time, return to this house. We have a be t on you." How strange!

 Then, I entered a clothes store to buy a cheap suit. When I showed the owner the bank note, he was angry since the salesman sold me such terrible suit.

George is a 15-year-old middle school student. He didn't use to be interested in English. When he started taking English seriously in Grade Nine, he noticed that his grammar was a serious problem. He couldn't understand the sentences because of the grammar. To fix this, he created a study plan to improve his grammar.

He started by reviewing the basic grammar rules. He realized that he was poor in grammar because he never really understood the rules. For example, he would often mix up verb tenses（时态）. To deal with this, he spent a few weeks just going over the basics. It was a little boring at first, but it made a great difference.

One of the turning points for him was when he began keeping a grammar diary. Whenever he made a mistake, he would write it down along with the correct usage. He remembers one time, he kept confusing the past perfect tense with the simple past. Writing out the differences and practicing sentences in his diary helped him internalize（内化） the rules.

After a long time of hard work, George has made great progress in grammar. Now he has a better understanding of English grammar. He can understand different tenses, parts of speech and sentence structures（结构） better. He can also find out and correct the mistakes easily. He likes English a lot now and he is sure that he will get better at English.

In fact, to get better at anything, one needs to find what one is not good at and deal with it head-on. Remember, challenges are also chances. They are chances for you to get better.

 An aquanaut(潜水员) called Fabien Cousteau drew many people's eyes. He helps to build the world's {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(large) underwater research(研究) station. He wants the building {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be) an underwater form of the international Space Station (ISS). And it can be used by astronauts from different countries. It's not {#blank#}3{#/blank#} easy thing to do, but the idea receives much support(支持).

 The station, named Proteus, will be at the bottom(底部) of the sea. It will be a place for{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(scientist) to study the ocean.

Here is the story of a special plant. Because of this plant, the population at that time increased a lot. 

Long ago, there was a man named Chen Zhenlong and he was born in Fujian. Then he went to Luzon island for work. There were many waterways to Luzon, So he took a boat to get there. In Luzon, Chen found that the local people ate sweet potatoes, and they could easily plant them. He wanted to bring the sweet potatoes back to his hometown, because they might change the situation of the food shortage(短缺). But it was not an easy thing. Chen was learning how to grow sweet potatoes while he was thinking about how to bring them back. One day he put a potatoes vine(藤) into the absorbent rope(吸水绳) and then brought it back to his hometown. After getting home , Chen began to plant sweet potatoes and finally he was successful. 

The weather was bad in Fujian and many people didn' t have enough food. Chen told the government that the sweet potatoes could help people. So the government let people plant sweet potatoes. After that, the sweet potatoes became a common plant in China. At that time, 85% of the people depended on sweet potatoes for food. People then had enough food and the population increased quickly.
