Have you ever been ill? When you are ill, you must be unhappy because your body becomes hot, and there are pains all over your body. You don't want to work, you stay in bed, feeling very sad.

What makes us ill? It is germs(细菌). Germs are everywhere. They are very small and you can't find them with your eyes, but you can see them with a microscope. They are very small and there could be hundreds of them on a very small thing.

Germs are always found in dirty water. When we look at dirty water under the microscope, we shall see them in it. So your father and mother will not let you drink dirty water.

Germs aren't found only in water. They are found in air and dust. If you cut your finger, if some of the dust from the floor goes into the cut(割开处), some of the germs would go into your finger. Your finger would become big and red, and you will have much pain in it. Sometimes the germs would go into all of your body, and you would have pain everywhere.

(1)、Which of the following is TRUE?
A、If things are very small, they are germs. B、If things can't be seen, they must be germs. C、Germs are only in dirty water. D、Germs are everywhere around us.
(2)、What is a microscope used for?
A、Making very small things look much bigger. B、Making very big things look much smaller. C、Helping you read some newspapers. D、Helping you if you can't see things clearly.
(3)、Why don't your parents let you drink dirty water?
A、You haven't looked at it carefully. B、Water can't be drunk in this way. C、There must be lots of germs in it. D、Water will make you ill.
(4)、Which of the following is NOT true?
A、Germs can be found both in water and in the air. B、Germs can go into your finger if it is cut. C、If your temperature is not OK, there must be germs in your body. D、If your finger isn't cut, there aren't any germs on it.
(5)、What's the main idea of the passage?
A、Germs may make us ill. B、Germs are in dirty water. C、Don't drink dirty water. D、Take care of your fingers.
举一反三
 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。

①The scientific method is used for simple experiments that students may do in the classroom or very difficult experiments that scientists are doing all over the world. It is a way of thinking that helps you to avoid drawing incorrect conclusions (结论). There are usually four steps in the scientific method, including observation (观察), hypothesis(假设), experiment, and conclusion.

②The steps may not always be completed in the same order, but the first step is usually observation and asking a question about your observation. For example, you had a sick stomach, and ate a candy bar. An hour later, you observed that you felt much better. Here, you can ask a question, such as, "What makes a sick stomach feel better?"

③The second step is to state a possible answer to the question, or a hypothesis, such as " ▲ " A good hypothesis includes three things: The explanation for the observations, it is able to be tested, and it will usually predict new results or conclusions.

④The third step is the experiment, to test the hypothesis. An experiment is a test which will either challenge or support the hypothesis. The hypothesis will then be true or false.

⑤The final step is to think about what happened when you tested the hypothesis and draw a conclusion. The conclusion will either clearly support the hypothesis or it will not. If the results support the hypothesis, a conclusion can be written and you can share it with the rest of the world. If it does not support the hypothesis, you may choose to change the hypothesis or write a new one based on what was learned during the experiment.

A. 请阅读下面短文, 根据语篇内容, 在空白处填入恰当的单词, 使短文通顺、连贯。每空一词

It's hard to turn down junk food. However, eating too much junk food {#blank#}1{#/blank#} harmful to your body. "For young people aged {#blank#}2{#/blank#} 10 and 19, junk food has a bad influence on their abilities of thinking, learning and memorizing, "said Amy Reichelt, a brain expert.

Reichelt reviewed over 100 studies about how poor food choices can influence teen brains. She discovered that teenagers who had a high-fat diet performed worse on memory tests {#blank#}3{#/blank#} those who ate a normal diet.

She also found teenagers were more interested {#blank#}4{#/blank#} foods with a lot of fat and sugar. The prefrontal cortex(前额皮质)of the brain is the part. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} helps us develop the ability to control ourselves. However, this part doesn't fully develop  {#blank#}6{#/blank#} we are in our early 20s.

{#blank#}7{#/blank#} the same time, teen brains get more excited from rewards(奖励). Eating junk food makes teenagers feel good. Therefore, they can hardly turn down junk food {#blank#}8{#/blank#} they know it is not good for their health.

So, what's the best way to say no to junk food? Researchers advise people to  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}. That is because when we exercise, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} brains grow and become better able to make smart decisions.

 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A new AI system can be used to make predictions(预测) on the crop yields(产量) up to six months before harvest. The tool counts flowers on fruit trees, which can help farmers improve crop yields and make better use of water and labor, and to plan harvests.

The system, developed by researchers at the National Robotarium in Edinburgh, can count flowers on fruit trees from photos taken by a smartphone. It works by knowing features, such as the edges and shapes of flowers. In Spain, studies on peach trees showed the system to be 90% correct in flower counts, which is much better than the 30% to 50% mistakes made by humans, according to researchers.

"In countries all across the world, farmers often depend on traditional methods to predict their yields, which can lead to big mistakes, " said Fernando Auat Cheein, a professor at the National Robotarium. "The flower-counting AI makes it possible to help farmers make wise decisions about crop management. "

"By paying more attention to the areas of the farm that are expected to produce the most fruit, farmers can make the most of resources(资源), reduce their environmental effect, and improve the harvest, " said Mr Cheein. "Our AI tool can be used with traditional farming practices, making it easier for growers to get help without completely changing their present methods. " The researchers will next compare the AI's predictions with the actual peach harvest in the following months. If these turn out to be effective (有效的), they believe the method could be used for crops such as apples, pears, and cherries, helping fruit growers in Britain, Europe, and other areas.

 阅读下面短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

①It can be really embarrassing if someone sees you talking to yourself. But don't feel bad about it! Talking to yourself actually has a lot of advantages.

②You probably know that thinking is good for the brain. It helps us do things like making plans and managing our feelings. Talking to yourself loud is like showing this quiet inner(内在的) speech. It can help us do better in different areas like studies, sports and work.

③Talking to yourself, especially in the third person, can help us manage bad feelings. "Talking to yourself in the third person is like giving yourself advice." said Jason Moser, a professor(教授) from Michigan State University in the US. Jason uses himself as an example. He does not like flying, but he often has to fly for his work. So when he is feeling nervous or afraid during a flight, he talks to himself-only silently. Well, you know, Jason knows air travel is very safe. And Jason has been on thousands of flights. This can help us to see things from a different aspect(角度), especially when we' re feeling sad or angry.

④When encouragement comes from oneself, it adds to self-confidence. A study invited 72 tennis players to take part in some matches. Researchers divided the players into two groups: one group that said nothing while playing, and the other that talked to themselves while playing. They found that the self-talkers showed more confidence and played better than those in the silent group.

⑤Self-talk also helps to improve memory. Researchers tested four different ways to memorize things: read silently, reading aloud, listening to someone else read and listening to a recording of oneself reading. "Those who read out loud record the information best," Researchers said in their study. It's because the information will probably become a long-term memory if it is said out loud.
