A Bite of China, the seven-part documentary (纪录片) introduces Chinese food through the geography, history and culture.

A Bite of China is fill of &eat pictures of food, from expensive food to local food. The documentary shows Chinese food culture and how to make the delicious food.

    How to make dishes is only one part of food culture. The program tries to bring something new by showing more cultural elements (元素) about dishes, such as eating habits, and people's life. For example, one part tells China's history of rice growing. It explains why rice is the main food of the southern Chinese, while the northern ones mainly eat wheat flour (面粉).

    And a part about pickles(腌制食品) tells about a woman in Beijing. She returns to her hometown in Jilin and makes pickles for the first time for her lonely mother.

Another part shows happy moments of sons and daughters making New Year cakes after they return home from different cities to celebrate with their lonely parents in Zhejiang.

A Bite of China also shows social changes when showing food culture. For example, some members of a family work outside but leave the old in their hometowns - in this case, food can make people remember the happy time.

In November 1979, pupils in England were able to watch a new TV programme called Monkey. Most of them were hearing this story for the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} time. However, this story is not new to Chinese {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

The Monkey King or Sun Wukong is the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} character in the traditional Chinese book Journey to the West.

The Monkey King is not just a normal monkey. In fact, he sometimes does not even look {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a monkey! This is because he can make seventy-two {#blank#}5{#/blank#} to his shape and size, turning himself into different animals and objects. To fight {#blank#}6{#/blank#} people, the Monkey King uses a magic stick. Sometimes he can make the stick so {#blank#}7{#/blank#} that he can keep it in his ear. At other times, he is able to make {#blank#}8{#/blank#} big and long. The kids of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} have loved the Monkey King for many years. And as soon as TV programme came out more than thirty years ago, Western pupils became {#blank#}10{#/blank#} in reading this story. Because the clever Monkey King keeps fighting to help the weak and never gives up.

The ISS is as tall as a nine﹣story building and weighs 186，900 kilograms. It's about the size of two football fields and flies about 400 kilometers above our heads at 28，970 kilometers per hour. It goes around Earth once every 90 minutes. 

If you watch the sky for about an hour after the sun goes down，you may see some "moving stars". But they are not really stars. They are man﹣made satellites. And the biggest of all is the International Space Station （ISS）. From May to July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth. And people can see it with their eyes during the time. 

The scientists want to live on the ISS. They think that the best way to learn more about space is to live there. 

When the space station is finished，it will be like a city in space. People will stay and study there with many of the thing they have at home. Laboratories，living rooms and power stations are being built. The ISS is the most ambitious（雄心勃勃的）

Scientists hope that the ISS will be a stepping stone（跳板） for future space exploration. "The ISS will be more useful some day. The ISS will help us understand the human body better，explore space and study the earth. It can help us make life on the earth better. " said Kathryn Clark

Sixteen countries are part of the space program：the US，Russia，Canada，Brazil，and 11 European countries. 

China isn't an ISS country，but it has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003，China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it. 

After it's finished，more than 90 percent of the world's population is able to see the Space Station. So keep looking up，and maybe you'll see it getting bigger.

January 1st is the New Year's Day, the first day of the year. It is a legal(法定的)holiday, and all banks, stores and schools are closed. Many people invite their friends to come and visit them in the afternoon or evening.

The only legal holiday in February is Washington's Birthday. Although Washington was born on February 22nd, his birthday is now celebrated on the third Monday of February. Some states also celebrate Lincoln's birthday on February 12th. These two, the United States' most famous presidents, were both born in February. The last Monday in May is Memorial Day(纪念日). This holiday remembers many service members, men and women, who died for their country. Americans celebrate Memorial Day with services in cemeteries(公墓)and churches.

America's great national holiday, Independence Day, falls on the fourth of July. It celebrates the birth of the United States. It was on this day that the colonists(殖民者)announced their independence from England. They had to fight hard for the next seven years to win this independence.

The first Monday of September is Labor Day(劳工节). This holiday honors(向……表示敬意)the working people of the United States. There are sorts of celebrations and speeches on this day, too. People go to all kinds of places to enjoy the fine weather at the end of summer.
