One Saturday afternoon, Kate went to buy something for her sister and1 .

As Kate was coming out of a shop. A young lady walked towards her. She said she was Miss Green-a good friend of Kate's  sister's.  Kate 2her. Then she called a taxi 3Kate home. She told the driver where he should go. Kate was 4 that it was not in the direction of her home.

    When they came to a quiet road, a big rude man 6on the road. He stopped the taxi driver, knocked him down, tied him, and threw him out of the7 . At the same time, Miss Green took out of a knife and8it at Kate. She asked Kate to keep9. The man then started the taxi. "

    “Oh, God! I'm being kidnapped," Kate said to herself.

     She tried to escape, but she didn't10 . Suddenly an 11 came to her. She took out a lipstick (口红) from her pocket, wrote 'SOS' on the window, and covered the word12her back.

    A few minutes later, a police car 13 and the policemen saw the sign. When the kidnappers saw the policemen they stopped the taxi, jumped into the grass, and14.

    The policemen then picked Kate up and sent her home. When her parents knew what had happened, they were greatly surprised. But they were 15because their daughter had finally come back safely.

No More Time Out

Shawn and Thomas had always been good friends. They lived near each other, and they both loved 1.They played baseball, touch football, and kickball. They also liked to play soccer, shoot baskets, and skateboard.When they were in the fourth grade, though, Thomas broke his 2 in a soccer game. He had to be on crutches for six weeks.
Shawn 3 Thomas, but what was there to do? Shawn didn't like television or computer games. Thomas didn't like to sit and talk. After trying three times to start a conversation, Shawn 4 up. He said, “I'm out of here.”
For days, Shawn 5at home, feeling guilty for not visiting Thomas again. Thomas stayed home, too, feeling 6because Shawn wasn't visiting him. After a week, Shawn's mom spoke up. “It's time for you and Thomas to get back into action! That's why I spoke to Ms McNulty at the library. She has the perfect volunteer job for you both,” she said.
Shawn said 7. His mom continued, “The library sells used books to raise money. People are always 8off books in bags and boxes. Someone has to carry the books to the storage room.     In order to reduce the stress on the students, Nanjing No. 1 High School has1a "mark bank". The bank lets students "borrow" marks2they can pass exams, and then repay them in later tests.

    Here's3it works: The "mark bank" allows students to4marks if they fail the exam. But, just like real banks, it requires "clients (客户)" to pay back the loan (贷款) on time, with interest (利息).  So students have to pay for the loan by getting extra marks in future exams. Some teachers also allow the students to repay the bank5doing lab experiments or giving public speeches. Students who don't pay back their loans are blacklisted (列入黑名单) by the bank, just like in real life.

    "I was sick before the mid-term exams and missed several geography classes," one student said, "I failed the exam, so I am glad the 'mark bank' gave me a 6to pass the exam."

    7many people think the "mark bank" is a great idea, not8supports the idea.  Education expert Xiong Bingqi, for example, believes9the "mark bank" is not proper, but thinks that it takes stress off the students.  Others think that such an idea just causes students to be10in their studies.

    I know the saddest moment in my life. Three years ago I was in Grade 6. I arrived at my school that morning. As soon as I walked into the classroom, I felt sad and uncomfortable. I knew exactly why the mood felt this way. The people around me were 1 their feelings. Today was the day when our teacher would leave and move to another school. Mr. Smith was finally saying goodbye to our school after five years' 2 here.

    Imagine being born without arms. No arms to hug(拥抱) someone, and no hands to 1touch. Or what about being born without legs? Having no 2to dance, walk, run, or even stand on two feet. Now put both of those scenes together: no arms and no legs. How would that3one's everyday life?

    Nick Vujicic came into the world with neither arms nor legs. Imagine how sad his parents felt when they saw their baby being what the world would consider not4. Little did they know that this beautiful disabled baby would one day be someone who would encourage people from all walks of life.

Dearest Mom and Dad,

    I'm afraid I have something terrible to tell you. I have been very naughty and the school principal(校长) is very 2 with me. She is going to write to you. I have to be3   from here by you. She does not want me in the school any longer.
