Today is June 4th it's 1 fine day. It is Betty's birthday. She comes 2 and sees a new red box on her bed. She opens 3. There is nothing but a piece of paper 4 it! Betty takes it out and 5: “Dear Betty. I'm your present(礼物). Come and 6 me in the front room.” Betty runs 7 front room. She finds her parents there. They look at her happily. She looks round and sees her present — a nice 8 bike. “Happy birthday. Betty.” Her parents both 9. Betty is very happy and says: “10 very much.”

    Once there was a boy named Jimmy. He started drawing when he was three years old, and when he was five he was already very     1 at it. He drew many beautiful and interesting pictures, and many people 2 his pictures. They thought this boy was going to be 3 when he was a little older, and then they were going to 4 these pictures for a lot of money.

    Jimmy's pictures were quite different from other 5, because he never drew on all of the paper. He drew on 6 of it, and the other half was always 7.

    “That's very 8,” everybody said. “No other people have ever done that before”.

    One day, somebody asked him, “Please 9 me, Jimmy. Why do you draw on the bottom (底部) half of your pictures, but not on the top half.”

    “Because I'm small,” Jimmy said, “and my brushes can't 10 very high.”

    It was a cold winter's night when I stopped for gas on my way home from work. I felt 1 and had a slight headache.

    I worked in a 2 doctor's office. During those days, the office was often 3 people who had a cold, which made me even busier than usual. It seemed I was going to be late 4 home and my husband would be ready to pronounce me late once again. But maybe 5 I hurried, I could still make it.

    I was heading inside to 6 for my gas when I noticed an old couple（夫妻）at the counter. I heard them asking the 7 to the nearest hospital. It was the hospital that I had just 8 a few minutes ago.

    Ever since I was a child, my mouth has caused me trouble. I'm not a bad person, but I have a hard time learning when to stop saying things to others.

    My mum has told 1 again and again, "Robert, you bad words are hurting me. 2 you continue to be this rude, you will get into big trouble."

    It has been a problem at school several times too. One day, in English class, I was working on my homework when I heard a classmate 3behind me. It was Nathaniel, who liked doing that as usual.

    I thought of what my mother had said to me and 4 nicely, "Nathaniel, would you be quiet?"

    However, Nathaniel kept saying something to the boy next to him loud. I5shouted, "Nathaniel, shut up!"

    6the next five minutes, we threw hurtful words at each other.

    "At least I don't have an ugly lazy eye like you!" I cried out.

    I knew this would make him 7 and it would hurt his feelings and shut him up.

    What I said filled him anger. He ran to my 8 and tried to catch me as he shouted, "That's it! That's it!"

    Surprised at his reaction, I sat back in my seat. I had9seen Nathaniel act like this before. Later on, we were taken to the teachers' office. There, Mr. Black. Our English teacher, told us to 10the problem between us. Only then I finally found that 11I hurt someone physically(身上), he can finally get healthy again. But when I hurt someone with my 12, sometimes the pain never goes away.

    At the end of the discussion, I said 13to Nathaniel.

    When I went back to my room, I began to14 how often what I said hurt others. I'll remember what my mom said to me and learn when to keep my 15closed.

    Peter and Jack came to my house one afternoon in January, 2018. They encouraged me to try a 200-kilometre bike ride. It was an event to 1 money for disabled children. I thought the idea seemed 2 —to support the unlucky children while riding for a long distance.

    It began on a Sunday morning, and for the 3 few hours, I felt wonderful. But by the end of the day, I felt 4 and bored and really wanted to give up. Every excuse I could think of seemed to be good enough for me to give up the ride.

    And so I pushed myself to catch up. There he was, riding alone slowly but steadily, with a determined smile on his 9. He had only one leg!

    My focus changed at that moment. For a whole day, I was doubting my body, but now, I had the will that would help me 10 my aim.

Today, I was sitting on a bench(长椅) at a subway station, eating candies. A woman came and sat next to me. She looked very 1. I said hello to her and2 her some of my candies. She3 politely because she had just eaten something and she was4. But the ice was broken and we5 for about half an hour. She told me some6 things in her life. I understood her. But I tried to7 her to notice the good sides. And then she promised that she would often smile and feel hopeful about8. When we said goodbye, she was a 9 person—Her tiredness seemed to be gone. She left with a10, thanking me for talking with her.

    A few minutes later, I saw a blind man coming. He walked11 with a stick in his right hand. I went to him and asked if I could help him and he agreed. 12 I walked on his left side so that he could catch my arm. We walked into the train and talked all the way to his13. He gave me his name card before getting off the train, and I promised to14 him. I will and maybe we will meet and walk in the park one day.

Today I brought smiles and an enjoyable15 to two people, and for sure they also made my day brighter.
