Luke Hayes-Alexander, 32 years old, looks like a typical eighteen-year-old boy. He speaks slowly and is quite shy. However, when he talks about food, he is different! "My life is about food shopping, preparing food and serving." Luke was the executive chef(行政主厨)of Luke's Gastronomy in Kingston, Canada, started by his parents in 1993. When he was a kid, he liked reading cookbooks. Soon, he started helping his father with cooking in the kitchen. At the age of fourteen, Luke left school and decided to learn more about food. Then, at the age of sixteen, he became the chef and started changing the small family restaurant into a center of creative dishes.

Luke cares about his ingredients(原料)a lot:  they all come from local(当地的): arms and he chooses them carefully. Everything in the restaurant is home-made. Even the wine in his restaurant is from his own vineyard(葡萄园)."I enjoy cooking. I hope every ingredient in my dishes is beautiful and fresh and that the customers will enjoy the taste of my food, "he said.

Luke is happy in Toronto. He has many plans and is already working on a new cookbook. And then he would also like to go to Europe in the future to find out more about cooking and talk with some famous cooks. What words does Luke have for other teenagers interested in cooking?" Have fun, get dirty, listen to some good music and cook!"

Back in New York, I am fighting fires as the assistant captain (副队长) of a volunteer fire company.

I still remember my first fire. I was the second volunteer on the scene (现场). The captain was talking with the homeowner, who was surely having one of the worst days of her life. At midnight, she was standing outside in the heavy rain, under an umbrella, barefoot (赤脚的), while her house was in flames (在燃烧中). The other volunteer, who had arrived just before me, was asked to go inside and save the homeowner's dog. The captain then waved (招手) me over. He said, "Bezos, I need you to go upstairs past the fire, and get this woman a pair of shoes." So, not exactly what I was hoping for, but off I went up the stairs, down the hall, past the "real" firefighters, who were pretty much done putting out the fire at this point, into the bedroom to get a pair of shoes.

Now I know what you're thinking, but I'm no hero. (Laughter) I carried the shoes downstairs where I met the other volunteer with the valuable dog. We took our treasures outside to the homeowner, where, not surprisingly, his received much more attention than mine.

A few weeks later, the company received a letter from the homeowner thanking us for saving her home. The act of kindness she noted above all others was that someone had even gotten her a pair of shoes.

Here, I would offer this reminder: don't wait. Don't wait until you make your first million to make a difference in somebody's life. If you have something to give, give it now.

Not every day is going to offer us a chance to save somebody's life, but every day offers us an opportunity to affect (影响) one. So get in the game. Save the shoes.

A 16-year-old student called Wu Yishu won Chinese Ancient Poetry Competition(中国诗词大会) on February 7, 2017. Wu Yishu, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} excellent student at the High School in Shanghai, is interested in Chinese ancient {#blank#}2{#/blank#} and works. She said that she {#blank#}3{#/blank#} only one ancient poetry book on the bookshelf instead of other books. Because {#blank#}4{#/blank#} her love of ancient culture and works, Wu has remembered {#blank#}5{#/blank#} than 2,000 Chinese ancient works. That was {#blank#}6{#/blank#} she could beat other competitors in the second season of the competition on CCTV. 

"I get feelings from ancient poems that {#blank#}7{#/blank#} people can't give me. I don't {#blank#}8{#/blank#} about the competition result, because I love poetry, and it is enough as long as I enjoy the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} brought by the poetry. " Wu said. 

In the end, Wu performed perfectly in many sections, such as com-

petitors recalling poems by looking at the sand paintings and reciting{#blank#}10{#/blank#} with the Chinese character "Jiu(酒)" as many as they could think of. 

Laura is p{#blank#}1{#/blank#} of owning a pair of jelly shoes but she hates the jellyfish. When her brother tells her the shoes are made of jellyfish, she throws her jelly shoes away. However, she changes her mind about the shoes when she sees some s{#blank#}2{#/blank#}, rainbow- like jellyfish babies. She helps to save the jellyfi sh on the sand and she doesn't hate them any more. Instead they look beautiful to her and she likes them. She doesn't get back her shoes, however, even though her brother admits he m{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the story all up. In the end, the shoes are back in the deep sea where she thinks they b{#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

Nowadays more and more young people take up a new hobby like collecting stamps to record their travels.  They imprint (压印) the stamps, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (usual) with pictures and names of the places, on postcards or in travel notebooks. 

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} 29-year-old woman started stamp collecting three years ago.  She found it to be a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (good) way to record her travels than buying local gifts.  So she {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (carry) a special notebook for collecting stamps while travelling.  Once she spent two hours waiting {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a special stamp.  Now she has filled six {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (notebook) with stamps. 

"Stamp collecting has added more fun to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (I) travels.  Looking through those notebooks feels a little like looking at photos.  I can recall what delicious food I {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (have) and what fun experiences I enjoyed," she said. 

At the time of social media, tourists are {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (excite) to share their collecting ideas with others online.  This makes offline visits and online communication the useful ways {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (spread) culture. 

Once there was a little boy. He was famous as a fast 1 in his village. He thought nothing was more important than winning every running race(比赛), because he wanted to become more 2 .

One day, the boy joined a running race in his village. He 3 the 100, 200 and 50- meter races without any problem. He got a great 4 and was very excited. So he thought no one was 5 than him.

The grandfather 13 and said, " They did not cheer for any one of you. They cheered for 14 you all ran the race together."

Facing the race of life, the most important thing is not just 15 , but how you run the race.
