A friend wrote me a letter a few weeks ago. He felt1at the time. He2his letter with this question: "We can't really change this crazy world we live in, can we?" I3to him and started my own letter with these words: "Yes, we most certainly can!"

    I can still remember someone who changed my world. She was the4teacher at my primary school. I liked her music class and I wanted to impress her.5, I didn't know how to play any instruments.

    One day, she let me try playing her guitar. I6my best, but could only stumble along(断断续续地弹奏). When I finished playing, I put my7down. "I guess I am not very good," I told her. She looked at me with her 8eyes, smiled at me and said, "We are all good at something. You just need to find out9you are good at. Then, you can share it10the world."

    11simple words changed me. They12a seed(种子)in my heart that continues to grow to this day. They made me realize that I had something good inside of me. I just had to find it and share it.

    Can you change the world? Yes, you can! You can change it13one choice, one person or one kind act at a time.14you have to do is to share your goodness. Mother Teresa once said, "God doesn't ask us to do15things, but small things with great love." So make your love great!

Do you know Machu Picchu in Peru? Maybe you never hear about it and think there is nothing great with it. But it is famous all over the world, just like the Great Wall in our country.

Machu Picchu is over 600 years old, but people found it very late, in 

1911. That's why people also call it"The Lost City of the Incas". Machu Piechu lies on the highland of a mountain, at over 2,400 metres above sea level. It is about 5 km² and has about 200 different old but great buildings. There are three areas(地区) in Machu Picchu and every one of them has different uses. The slopes(斜坡)of the mountain work as the farming areas. The lower (更低的) areas are the buildings for people to live in. The top of the mountain is for religious activities(宗教活动). From there, you can enjoy all of Machu Picchu.

▲Why did people build the city on the mountain? How did they build these fantastic buildings? Who lived there before? It may take a long time to find them out.

The girl in the picture is Jenny. She is my friend from {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (伦敦). We write letters to each other every week. It is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (暖和的) there. But now she is in Hangzhou. Jenny studies in a good school in Hangzhou. She is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (十三) years old. Jenny has a new {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (铅笔) and its colour is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (褐色). She likes to draw some animals and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (花) with it. She often draws cats and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (鸟) in her books. She likes swimming too. On {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (星期三) afternoon, Mr. Li helps her practice it. She even swims in winter. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (在……之后) school, she often watches swimming games on TV. Sun Yang is her favourite sport star. There is going to be an exciting match {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (明天) evening and Jenny is happy to meet him then.

A portrait(肖像)fit for a king

Once upon a time, there was a king who lost his leg and eye during a war. Even with these challenges,  his cleverness and kindness made him a great 1 in his kingdom. 

One day, the king was 2 the palace hallway(走廊)and saw the portraits of his ancestors (祖先)on the walls. Thinking that one day his children would admire his portrait as well, he really wanted to  have it 3 well. 

However, he wasn't sure how his painting would turn out(以. . . 为结果)because of his physical problems. So he 4 a group of famous painters to the palace, offering a great deal of money to the artist who could create a beautiful portrait for him. 

All the painters began to wonder how to paint the king. They soon decided that it was an 5 task, fearing that if the portrait did not meet the king's expectations(期望), they would get punished. So, one by one, they started making excuses andpolitely refused. 

Then, one painter 6 and said that he wanted to give it a try. The king agreed. The painter started 7 and coloring the portrait carefully in a quiet room. After some time, it was finally completed!

All the other painters in the palace couldn't wait to 8 the portrait. When the painter presented the portrait, everyone, including the king, was9

The painter made a portrait in which the king was sitting on a horse, showing the one-leg side, holding his bow(弓)and aiming the arrow(瞄准箭)with his one eye closed. The king  was very pleased to see this10 portrait, and gave the painter a lot of money as he promised. 

During the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Emperor Taizong asked the prime minister Feng Deyi to recommend（推荐） talented people.

 1 , several months passed, Feng didn't recommend anyone. "I tried my best, but there are not unusual and 2 people at all, " Feng said.

"People are like utensils (器具). What we need to do is to make good use of their strengths. You cannot excuse yourself for not noticing talented people. How could you say that there are no talented people in our country?" said the emperor.

Indeed, each utensil or tool has its use. A knife is made to cut things while chopsticks are made to 3 food. We can't use a knife as a 4 . Like a utensil, each person has special strength. Nobody is perfect. We can't expect a person to be good at everything.

With this idea in 5 , Emperor Taizong discovered many talented people of different backgrounds. He 6 them important positions, which helped them make the best use of their talents. His talented people helped the society 7 and created a "golden age".

Some people say if a person is talented 8 , we should give them a chance. The same idea can be found in The Analects of Confucius (《论语》). Treating people as utensils shows that we can not only lead people well, but also allow different kinds of people to work well.

Today, the idea still makes 9 . If we become leaders someday, we should help others give full play to their strengths. 10 , Liu Bang let Zhang Liang and Xiao He work as advisors for their wisdom while inviting Han Xin to lead the army for his war strategies. Known as the "three heroes of the early Han Dynasty", they helped Liu build strong dynasty.

I am John. My family and I move to a new house. In my room, the books are always in the bookcase. My computer games are always there, too. My balls are always in the box under the bed. My schoolbag is always on the sofa. I clean my room three times a week. 

I have a brother. His name is Alan. His room is always in a mess. His books are everywhere. They are on the bed, on the sofa and under the desk. His computer games are on the bed. His jacket is on the sofa. Where is his schoolbag? Oh, it's under the bed. Our parents say, "Alan, come in. Look at your room. You must learn(学习) to be a tidy boy. "
