Do you want to know my{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (过去的) life? About thirty years {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (以前), I was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (出生) into a poor family near the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (城镇)of Wuning. There was a river in the middle of my {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (村庄). Many old houses were {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (沿着)both sides of the river. When I was seven, I went to my {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (第一) school. There were only twenty students in it. We liked our teachersbecause they were {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (友善的) to us. Six years later, I went to a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (出名的) high school. I was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (乖的) and studied hard, and then I went to university. Now I'm anengineer.

Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One time in the middle of the night, an old lady in her 80s1 my taxi. She gave me an address, and then asked: "Could you drive through downtown?"

"It's not the shortest way," I answered quickly.

"Oh, I don't2 ," she said. "I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice (临终关怀医院).

I don't have any family left. The doctor says I don't have very long."

I  3  shut off the meter (里程表).

For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She  4  me the building where she had worked, the neighborhood where she and her husband had once lived, the place where she danced as

a girl. As the sun was rising, we got to the hospice.

"How much should I pay you?" she asked, reaching into her purse (钱包).

"5 ," I said.

"You have to make a living," she answered.

"There are other6 ."

"You gave an old woman a little moment of7 ," she said. "Thank you."

I drove into the fine morning light. 8  me, a door shut. It was the sound of the9  of a life. I drove aimlessly (漫无目的地), lost in thought. For the rest of the day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had got a(n) 10  driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift (换班)? What if I had refused to take the run?

My name is Mary. I'm a teacher. It's 9 o'clock on Monday. My class begins. There is a boy in my class. His name is Bob. I ask Bob, "I get some apples from a fruit seller*. And I give you one apple and one apple and one apple. How many apples have you got?"

After some time, Bob says, "Four. "

I say, "Please listen to me carefully. It's not difficult. I give you one apple and one apple and one apple. How many apples have you got?"

"Four, " Bob says. 

I remember Bob likes carrots. Then I say, "I give you one carrot and one carrot and then one carrot. How many carrots have you got?"

"Three?"

"Yes!" I ask, "I give you one apple and one apple and one apple. How many apples have you got?"

"Four. "

"How? Please tell me. How?" I ask. 

"Because I already have an apple in my bag, " says Bob. 

Now I think Bob gives the right answer all the time. 

I'm Linda. In my home, there's a black and white thing. We call it Xiaodu. When you say " Xiaodu, Xiaodu", it says to you,"I'm here!" When you say" Good morning!" it says," Good morning!" to you.

 In the morning, it is my clock. When it's 7:00, it tells me the time.

 For my mom, Xiaodu is a library. It reads books to her every day.

 My brother is 3 years old. He often asks Xiaodu for help," What's a telephone?"" What's a tape player?"… For him, Xiaodu is a dictionary.

 Xiaodu is our good friend. We love it. Oh, where is it? It's on the TV set now.

Mark is my good friend. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}But he is in the UK with his parents for three years. 

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}So he gets up early and does morning exercises ( 锻 炼 ) , like running and playing basketball. He thinks playing basketball is really cool. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}After exercise, he has breakfast. For breakfast, he usually has eggs, milk and bread. At about 7:30, he goes to school.

Every year, Mark and his parents go back to America on December 25th. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}You know it's the day of Christmas(圣诞节).
