Thomas Edison lost the first job. For the next five years he went around the country from job to job. At last Edison went to New York. He had little money. He could not buy enough food to eat. He had no place to sleep.

    For many days Edison looked for work. He was hungry. At last he found work fixing machines. He could fix the old machines. He also made new ones. The head man liked Edison's new machines. He was going to give Edison $40， 000 for them. Edison would now have money to do what he wanted.

    Thomas Edison was then 23， He used the money to build a shop in New Jersey. He had many people working for him. But he worked more than 40 new things at one time.

    In 1876 Alexander. Graham Bell made a telephone. But it could carry voices only a little way. Edison wanted to make a better telephone. He soon made one.  It could carry voices a long way.

    Nadia Comaneci, a famous gymnast(体操运动员), was born in Romania in 1961.

    When she was doing cartwheels (侧手翻) on the playground at the age of 7, a PE teacher saw her. He told her family that she was very good and advised Nadia to train in the capital of Romania. Although it was a long way from her home, Nadia went because she loved gymnastics(体操).

    After that, she trained hard and took part in lots of competitions. In 1975, she was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century.

    In 1976, Nadia went to the Olympics in Canada. She was so fantastic in the competition that everyone waited for the score, a high score. But the score board showed 1.00!

    Everyone was surprised. There wasn't a sound for a moment. Then a voice came. "Ladies and gentlemen, Nadia Comaneci…10!"

    The audience cheered very loudly. So what happened? Well, when the scoreboard was built, no one thought a score of 10.00 was possible. The decimal point(小数点) was in the wrong place! In fact, the scoreboard only had three digits (数位) to show scores, such as 9.50 or 9.85 at that time.

    In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Nadia Comaneci scored a perfect 10, which was thought impossible before. From then on, she was looked as a hero. In 1984, she got retired (退休的).

Hi, boys and girls! I'm a student of Jingwai Mingde Primary School in Yunnan. The school has a history of 15 years. Now there are about 1,000 teachers and students in my school. I think my school is really cool.

Do you know why I think so? Well, in my school, we students not only have lessons with teachers, but have farm work (农活) to do. Our teachers are happy to teach us how to do farm work and we are happy to learn it. We all think it's useful and fun. We grow (种植) vegetables and fruit in our free time. We can learn much and we can also eat the vegetables and fruit when they are ripe. They are healthy. And you know what? There is a small zoo (动物园) in our school. You can see chickens and other animals in it. Oh, I really love my school! Do you want to be a student of my school?

My name's Monifo, a boy from the USA. Amy is my friend. She's Chinese. She lives with her family. We are in the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} grade but we are not in the same class. She often {#blank#}2{#/blank#} basketball with me after class and I think she is very nice.

We have many {#blank#}3{#/blank#} at school but art is our favorite. I like red but it's not my favorite. Amy and I have the same favorite {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. It's green. But we don't like white or brown. At Amy's house, we do our homework first. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Amy watches TV with me. Amy's grandma calls her Mei Jing— that's her Chinese name. And she thinks it is very cool to {#blank#}6{#/blank#} two names.

This Sunday I go with Amy to her {#blank#}7{#/blank#} house. There are many people in the house. They are her aunts, uncles and cousins. I think it's someone's (某人的) {#blank#}8{#/blank#}, but Amy says her big family often eat dinner together(一起). I learn to use(使用) chopsticks(筷子) here. Chinese use{#blank#}9{#/blank#} to eat meals but we use knives and forks(叉子). It's {#blank#}10{#/blank#} interesting!

Some of my friends think I have a boring daily life, but I like 1 . 

I usually get up at about 6:00 or 6:30 in the morning, after my alarm clock 2 me up.  First, I brush my teeth and wash my face.  Then, I get 3 and go downstairs to have breakfast with my family.  I always have coffee, bread and 4 fruit.  I take a bus to work because I 5 to drive.  I always arrive at my office before 8:00.  I'm never 6 for work. 

Five o'clock is my favourite time of the day 7 I finish work and go back home to see my family again.  I have two kids, Thomas and Patrick.  Thomas is six years old and Patrick is eight.  We have dinner together in 8 dining room at around 6:00 p.  m.  After that I usually stay 9 my wife and kids at home.  We really enjoy 10 our favourite TV programmes together.  We like to watch shows 11 travel. 

However, two or three times a week I 12 exercise in the evening, so I can stay strong and healthy.  I think it is very important! 13 , at 9:30 p. m. , I go to bed, read for a while, and then fall asleep. 

Of course, some people think my daily life is not fun, but on weekends and holidays I 14 going travelling with my family! It's 15 favourite hobby.
