 完形填空

Ronny looked like every other kid in the classroom where I volunteered as the Reading Mom. However, he had a speech problem so he couldn't 1 like other kids in his grade.

I worked with all the students in Ronny's class one by one to improve their reading skills. On the days when it was Ronny's 2 , I'd give him a silent smile. That's why he sat very close to me and opened the book as if he was opening a treasure that 3 had ever seen.

I watched his fingers move 4 under each letter as he read out difficultly.

Every time he managed (完成) to read a word with a 5 pronunciation (发音), the biggest smile would spread across his face and his 6 would shine with pride.

A few weeks before the school year ended, I 7 Ronny a book—one of those Little Golden Books. A few days later, I returned to the school to visit. I 8 Ronny on a chair with the book. His head teacher said, "He hasn't 9 that book since you gave it to him." Deeply moved, I walked 10 Ronny, placed my hand on his shoulder and asked, "Will you read me your book, Ronny?" For the next few minutes, he read to me more 11 than I'd ever thought. The 12 were already dog-eared (卷角的), like the book had been read many times already. When he finished reading, Ronny closed his book and said with great 13 , "What a good book!"

At that moment, as a writer, I knew I would get 14 about my own writing and do what that writer had done, and probably still does—care enough to write a story that 15 a child's life, care enough to make a difference.

 阅读下面短文,从短文后每小题所给的A、B、C三个选项中选择一个能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Once, there was a small and poor village near the sea. Houses there were made of stone and wood. They were very 1 and could fall down(倒塌) at any time. A young man, named Harriet, lived in a wooden house, with his old 2 . Harriet dreamed of moving to a big city, but 3 never visited any of them.

His friends told him some exciting stories during their stay in cities. This made Harriet bored all summer long 4 he couldn't even go to the nearest city.

One day, Harriet walked into the house 5 and threw(摔) himself into the dirty brown chair. "Are you okay, dear?" His grandma asked. "No!" Harriet shouted. "My friends are taking trips to big 6 , and I'm still here!" Harriet's Grandma got a terrible 7 .

This unhappiness lasted for weeks. One morning, Harriet woke up. He walked outside to look at the sun 8 .

Soon after, his grandma came. "Listen, Harriet." She spoke. "Look at the 9 ," she continued(继续). "Isn't it beautiful? When you' re in the big cities, you can't see that. Look at the beach, isn't it great? You won't find that in a city, would you?" This made Harriet know how nice life is, and he's 10 to live in a village. Next time, he would like to share the beautiful views with his friends.

 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。

On a Saturday night in January, I was making my way to a sleepover at Nathan's house. This was going to be a wonderful adventure as I had never been to his place before. I had received the address, 39 Western Avenue, via text message. As I turned the corner and stepped onto Western Avenue, a large cloud moved in front of the moon, leaving a shadow (阴影) over everything.

In the dimness, I found it truly hard to see the house numbers clearly. However, not wanting to waste any time, I walked up the driveway of what I thought might be Nathan's house. I rang the bell and waited patiently, expecting someone to open the door and welcome me. But no one came. Thinking that perhaps they hadn't heard the first ring, I rang the bell again. After a few moments of waiting, I realized with a sinking feeling that I had made a mistake. I had gone to number 37 instead of 39.

Just then, the door of number 37 opened suddenly. The house was completely dark inside, so I could hardly see anything. Suddenly, there was a loud shout and a man rushed past me, running towards the street. Another man quickly followed him. They were in such a great hurry to leave that they dropped most of the things they were carrying. Curiosity (好奇心) getting the better of me, I picked up one of the items so that I could look at it more closely. To my surprise, it was a beautiful brooch. Right then, I understood what had been happening. These men must be thieves! Without hesitation (犹豫), I took out my phone and called the police.

I stood on the doorstep, anxiously waiting for what seemed like a long time. After five or ten minutes had passed, an unmarked police car finally arrived. Two policemen got out of the car. One of them immediately went into the house to look for clues while the other policeman asked me about the thieves. "You did extremely well," he said with admiration. "It was really ____ of you to interrupt (打断) those thieves and chase them away." I felt a sense of pride and relief knowing that I had done the right thing.
