    Scientists have discovered a new kind of invisible ink. It's called water. And all you need for this secret-messaging ink to work is to write with it on a super-hi-tech piece of paper coated with special chemicals. It shows up darker than the surrounding paper under UV(紫外线的) light.

    When the message has been read and needs to be hidden again, get out your hairdryer, and blow some warm air on the paper.

    Using hot air from a hairdryer for 15-30 seconds, you were able to reuse the special paper up to 30 times because the heat reorganized the chemical structure of the paper coating.

    The invention was made by a group of scientists in China, led by Qiang Zhao of the Institute of Advanced Materials, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

    Although much of modern communication is digital(数码的), there are still some situations in which it is important to send messages on a piece of paper, such as when the people don't have Internet. But the problem has always been how to get rid of a message once it has been shown so no one else can read it.

    . To use it, write with the lemon juice on ordinary paper, iron (熨) the paper with a hot iron and the hidden message will appear. The downside (缺点) is that the paper has to be destroyed to hide the message so no one else can read it.

A. How to make the invisible ink? Follow the steps.

B. Invisible inks have long been used to send secret messages.

C. Without the heat, the message stayed visible for up to three months.

D. Previously, the most readily available invisible ink was lemon juice.

E. Shine a UV light on the coated paper and the water message becomes visible.

F. Then the message will be gone and the paper can be reused, which keeps costs low.

G. Putting water on the paper broke up the structure of the chemicals it was coated with.

    I was ten when I first sat with my grandmother behind the cashier(收银台)in her general store. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I quickly learned the importance of treating customers politely and saying “thank you.”

The job taught me a valuable lesson: to be a successful salesperson, you didn't need to be a Rocket scientist—you needed to be a great listener. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Except they are no longer women purchasing cosmetics from me; instead, they are kids who tell me which toys they would like to see designed and developed.

Who does this e-mail concern? If you can honestly answer 'Anyone, 'then feel free to use “To Whom It May Concern.” (These are the things you should never say in your cover letter.)

    About one hundred years ago many educated people learned and spoke French when they met people from other countries. Today most people speak English when they meet foreigners. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} There are more people who speak English as a second language than people who speak English as a first language. Why is this?

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} One of them is that English has become the language of business. Another important reason is that popular American culture (like movies, music, and McDonald's)has quickly spread throughout the world. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Is it good that English has spread to all parts of the world so quickly? {#blank#}4{#/blank#} It's important to have a language that the people of the earth have in common. Our world has become very global and we need to communicate with one another. On the other hand, English is a fairly complicated language to learn and it brings its culture with it. Do we really need that?

    Scientists have already tried to create an artificial language that isn't too difficult and doesn't include any one group's culture. It is called Esperanto. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Maybe the popularity of English won't last that long either. Who knows? There are more people in the world who speak Chinese than any other language. Maybe someday Chinese will be the new international language.

任务型阅读

What I've been wondering is: {#blank#}1{#/blank#}And if so, how? Here are three ideas to do just that.

Read books and watch movies that transport you

One of my favorite things to do before taking a trip is to search out books and movies that can help me get a feel for a place. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Search out famous—or not-so-famous—books or films from the part of the world you want to visit. Then get lost in these during your staycation week.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Music is deeply connected to our emotions, which makes it particularly transporting. The beautiful sounds of Sigur Rós, for example, can create a dreamy atmosphere. Hawaiian ukulele and hula music bring the beach to your living room. Try searching for artists or genres of music from your desired destination and build a playlist to help you set the atmosphere.

Visit a museum — virtually

Museums in many locations have started to reopen with social distancing and masks, but if you're not ready to go in person, you can spend an afternoon exploring them online. Google map has digitized hundreds of collections and online tours at museums around the world. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Tour a national park

Camping is one type of vacation that's mostly safe and accessible to do right now. But if you can't get to the great outdoors, bring the outdoors to your home.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Explore a Hawaiian volcano, dive a Florida beach or ride horseback through the red rocks of Bryce Canyon.

If you don't have the budget or time to travel right now, try layering a few of these ideas together to create a kind of at-home immersion(沉浸感).

A. Listen to related music.

B. Is it necessary to go out for an adventure?

C. You can choose a national park for camping.

D. Find one near your destination using this map.

E. But you can still do this even if you're staying at home.

F. Is it possible to have an adventure without leaving home?

G. You can do that with an online tour in America's national parks.
