Dear teachers and students, today I'd like to share something about reading. We all know that reading is very important to everyone.

If you've ever used pi in math class, you probably used the number 3.14. In fact, the number for pi is much longer. Pi is called an irrational number (无理数) because the digits (数位) after the decimal point (小数点) never end or repeat.

In 2015, a young man from India named Rajveer Meena set a world record by memorizing 70,000 digits of pi. But pi is much longer than that.

On Pi Day ( March 14th) this year, a company called Solidigm said it calculated (计算) pi to105 trillion (万亿) digits. And the 105 trillionth digit is 6. It broke the record for how many digits of pi we know.

Pi is really useful for circles in math. It helps us connect the circumference with the diameter of a circle.

Even NASA scientists use pi for their work of studying space. But they only need about 15 digits of pi for their calculations.

Calculating pi also has another important use. It's how scientists test new computer programs and data storage systems (数据存储系统).

Solidigm's calculation of pi took around 75 days to finish. The company's owner Brian Beeler said that the achievement needed a lot of work. They had to plan the calculation very carefully.

This isn't the first time that Solidigm has calculated pi. In 2022, Google Cloud calculated 100 trillion digits of pi. Solidigm matched that in 2023.

In the future, we'll keep finding more and more digits of pi. We'll never be able to calculate all the digits of pi because it goes on forever. But it still helps us see how great computers can be.

During the Spring Festival of 2024, many Chinese parents bought their children bright red sets of Chinese New Year's clothing. A recent report showed that the order for traditional clothes went up a lot. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Young people dressed in such clothing have often been noticed at popular restaurants, parks, places of interest and so on.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}First, it cleverly connects traditional and modern parts, creating a special and stylish look. Second, it includes intricate embroidery(精工刺绣), bright colors and high-quality cloth, which makes it stand out from western styles. Besides social media also have an influence on Chinese young.

What was popular only among the old people has now become a hit among the young. Many people regard this as "bloodline awakening(血脉觉醒)." In the past, people might think that only in clothing with famous brands could they show good taste. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} You can find those people while visiting the British Museum as well as when traveling in the United States.

 {#blank#}4{#/blank#} It mixes the ancient beauty of traditional Chinese tea with modern designs, like fancy tea sets. This has gradually become a lifestyle. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Young people are more pleased to express their personality with traditional culture, reflecting their pride of being a Chinese.

Improvements in technology often happen overnight. Some gadgets get smaller and faster. Others are replaced by newer things like smartphones. They can do hundreds of things. Here are some old gadgets that people used to use.

 Do you have a landline at home? These are phones that people plug(插入) into their living room walls. Mobile phones didn't use to be so common at that time, so most families had a landline. But landlines only worked at home. What did people do when they were outside and needed to call someone? They looked for a pay phone! Then, most people had their own mobile phones and many homes no longer had landlines.

 People today store plenty of information online, or on SD cards. But in the 1980s and 1990s, people used to use floppy disks(软盘). The first floppy disks were large, expensive, and not very useful — each disk could store just 175 KB of information! Later, floppy disks got smaller and better. But even the best ones could only hold 1.44 MB. You would need three or four disks just for one song, and about 22,000 disks to match the storage(储存空间) available on a 32 GB phone!

 It's easy to take photos today. People often have thousands just on their phones! But photos used to be expensive, and people took fewer of them. To take a photo, you had to buy a roll of film. This allowed you to take about 30 photos. After finishing the roll, you left it at a shop. The shop developed the photos to make them be seen, which you could collect after a few days.

 Technology changes all the time, and the gadgets we use today will one day be old. What do you think will be next to disappear?

Most Americans eat three meals(餐) a day. They have breakfast in the morning, a simple lunch at noon and a big meal in the evening. They often eat breakfast and lunch in a hurry. For lunch they have hamburgers or sandwiches and they drink some fruit juice or coffee. Sometimes they have lunch in a fast food restaurant (快餐店). They can have a quick lunch there. They have more time for dinner. They often eat a nice and big dinner. They have soup(汤), beef, chicken, salad, fish and some bread. They also drink milk, fruit juice, coffee, tea or wine. They have dessert like pie, cakes and ice-cream.
