One evening as I was leaving the store, I noticed a man with a very old sleeping bag going through the garbage can nearby. He pulled out fast food trash bags and inspected all that was in the thrown-away bags, but he never stopped anyone to beg for money or anything else as they entered or left my store. After he went through the entire trash can, he carefully cleaned up the area and wrapped up the food he found in the dirty hamburger wrapper. My heart literally hurt for him.

I decided to help him. I got out of my car and asked him if I could buy him something to eat. He thanked and followed me to the fast food place around the block. I bought him the biggest meal they had on the menu. He didn't ask for anything and the only request was a big glass of hot sweet tea to go with his meal. When I brought him the food, he was so thankful. He told me how much he appreciated the meal.

I wanted to give him some money. He shook his head. I asked him if I could buy a few meals and put it on a gift card for him. He agreed.

As I handed him the gift card, he broke down crying. He told me that he prayed for me today. I wasn't sure what he meant (I was guessing he was praying for me for what I did for him) so I thanked him.

"NO, I prayed that God would send someone to buy me a hot meal today … and he sent you!" Tears traced down his checks.

I didn't know what to say… I always pray over my food, but I've never prayed for a meal. I've never doubted that I wouldn't be able to eat …Tears began to fill my eyes. Oh my…how blessed am I…Maybe God used me to answer this man's prayer.

Everybody has a story though I didn't know his, but I had done what God wanted me to. God put him in my path …I knew he did. I took him to my office.

Jane Austen(1775--1817), an English' novelist, started writing young and completed six novels in her life. Today Austen's books are more popular than ever. In the last 10 years, five of her six novels have been made into Hollywood films, while her books continue to be best-sellers.

Richard Jenkyns, a professor of English at Oxford University, says that her novels are about marriage, friendships and the family, which are still with us today. "The stories are timeless," Jenkyns said.

Pride and Prejudice(《傲慢与偏见》) (1813) is Austen's most famous work. It is a love story about Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. At first, these two dislike each other. Elizabeth is pretty, smart and lively. She is proud because Darcy doesn't know about her family. Mr. Darcy is handsome, rich and has a better family background. So, he is proud as well. At the same time, Darcy holds a prejudice against the Bennet family. He has no understanding of why the family, especially its mother and daughters should try so hard to find wealthy and powerful husbands. He thinks they are vulgar. Anyway, Elizabeth and Darcy finally fall in love and become a romantic couple(夫妻) but their families' "don t want them to.

In Pride and Prejudice, some of the main things that Jane Austen wants to teach people are as follows. Opposites can attract (吸引 ) each other. Lovers should not only make each other feel relaxed or comfortable, but also educate and improve each other.

Austen is often called the greatest romantic writer, so it is surprising she remained unmarried. "Maybe she was too romantic, waiting for the perfect man," Jenkyns says.

Dr. Lynn Moorman was a young doctor. She had a strange experience in June when she was spending Saturday night at her parents' house. Whenever she stayed with them, she slept on the long sofa in the sitting room. The sofa was set against a wall under a large picture window (整块玻璃做的景观窗).

Around three o'clock that morning, Dr. Moorman opened her eyes and noticed a flashing light outside the house. She thought that it was a firefly (萤火虫). A moment later, as the light continued to flash, she realized that it was too bright to be a firefly.

Then the light moved towards the window and unbelievably through the window into the room. It passed in front of her, perhaps as close as three feet. Then Dr. Moorman noticed that it appeared to have two sets of wires coming from the top and bottom. Each time the object flashed, Dr. Moorman saw it clearly. But when the light turned off, the object was no longer seen.

Dr. Moorman was quite scared. She thought about shouting, but couldn't open her mouth. When the light moved into the kitchen, she ran to her sister's bedroom. "Move over," she said, "I saw something, maybe an alien, that scared me and I'm coming into bed with you." The next morning at breakfast she told her family what had happened, but no one else had noticed anything. Her experience remains a puzzle.

Did Dr. Moorman meet an alien? Did she imagine the object? Or did she see a small UFO that had come visiting that night?
