Several months after I was badly hurt in a car accident, my father sent me to a blind school.

That morning was the new beginning. I went to this school and I heard lots of children. My new teacher took me to the class where we were taught to write and type in Braille(盲文 ). I found it quite difficult.

"Hi, sweetheart, how is school going?" asked my father.

"Daddy, I can't do this. I try and try but I just don't get it. I don't know if I am ever going to learn to read Braille. It's too difficult," I cried.

Daddy just held me in his arm and said, "Do you remember that we went to the temple which is on the top of a mountain? When we were climbing the mountain, my legs started aching. I sat down and said, 'I can't see the temple. You can't see it because it is covered with fog. Although you can't see it, I know it is here. I will make sure you will climb up to it.'"

"That day you showed me that just you can't see something does not mean it is not there. So although climbing the mountain was difficult, I knew I would get to the top."

I was clear what my dad wanted me to understand.

I went back to school and started with new energy. Very soon I could read.

One of my classmates said, "You are lucky, you know, you have at least seen the world. I have just heard it. I have been told there are many colors in this world but I don't understand what color means."

After listening to her for the first time in two years, I felt lucky. And on that day I learnt that although the light in my eyes is gone. I must see the world with the light in my heart.

①American teenager Rain Price was waved off (挥手) to school from the bus stop outside his house, by his dad, every day for a whole school year. OK, so that doesn't sound too bad, but this was no ordinary goodbye, because each day Rain's dad did it while wearing a different fancy-dress costume.

②It all started on Rain's first day of high school. Like many proud parents, Rochelle and Dale, Rain's parents, sent him off to school with a big wave. Feeling himself no longer a little kid, Rain found it quite embarrassing. That evening he said how unhappy he was when they waved him off. Then Dale had a great idea.

③The next morning, as Rain stepped on the school bus, he could hear his school friends laughing. He was shocked to find that his dad was waving him off, dressed as an American football player, complete with a ball and helmet. For the rest of the school year, Dale waved goodbye dressed in different costumes. One day he was a king, the next a cook, the following Wonder Woman.

④Amazingly, Dale only spent $50 on all of the costumes. He got most of them from the family fancy-dress collection and then several friends and neighbors were happy to help.

⑤Most of Rain's classmates looked forward to seeing what Dale would be wearing every day. Even Rain finally realized how cool his dad was.

⑥On the last day of school, Dale dressed up as a pirate (海盗) and stood next to a sign which said, "It's been fun waving at the bus. Have a great summer."

Nature was Chen Rui's "childhood home". The 37-year-old researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Zoology was not able to talk until he was 4 years old because of the way his brain processes sensory (感官) information.

This made him "strange" in some people's minds. So, he didn't have friends who were around his age, which led him to turn his attention to nonhuman things around him. He became enraptured by the world of insects. "The happiest time of my childhood was in the farm fields," says Chen. "I squatted there, observing the actions of insects. I had so many questions about their activities and was full of curiosity about this world." These experiences planted a seed in his heart.

Many years later, he's an expert in life-science research. He has visited the Amazon rainforest several times, and has found around 100 new species (物种), many of which are named after him.

"I was a child who was ‘cured (治愈)' by nature," he says. "I wanted to grow up to share the power of nature with more young people and to popularize understanding of animals, including insects. I wanted to start classes to bring children to learn in the open air and experience the gifts nature gives." These led him to recently publish the popular science book, Du Chong Ji (Reading About Insects)

"Insects were the earliest creatures that could fly and feed themselves by farming. They have survived three mass extinctions (大规模灭绝). No other living things have won such victories." He hopes that people will learn and draw inspiration from the "superpowers" of insects and use it to improve their own lives.

Ye Lianping is a 96- year- old re tired teacher from a village in Anhui Province. He has been teaching left- behind children there for free during the past 24 years.

Teaching has always been an important part of Ye's life. After he retired, he began offering free English- language classes to left- behind children. He first set up a classroom in his own house. Later, with the help of the government, he got another two classrooms. To provide education for more children, he also set up the Ye Lianping Scholarship Fund with almost all his money and the donations(捐赠物) from others. So far, it has helped hundreds of left- behind children.

Ye is quite generous(慷慨的) to these children, but he spends very little money on himself. He lives a very simple life. He lives with his wife in a house built over 30 years ago. He never buys any drinks. And he has been wearing the same jacket for over 40 years.

Although he is getting older, Ye is never tired of teaching. In 2018, he got hurt while riding a bicycle to buy vegetables. Instead of resting in bed for recovery, he quickly returned to class with a walking stick.

Ye is racing against time to spend as much time as possible on left- behind children's education. People call him "the candlelight of the village". But he said, "I'm just a firefly(萤火虫), muking little light, not as much light as a candlelight can give. "

Friends are part of our lives. In my life, I have a best friend who means a lot to me. My life would be less colorful without her. Although we always have arguments, we still treat each other as best friend.

We met each other four years ago. She said hello to me with a sweet smile. I guessed that she was a gentle (温和的) girl. And she really was. She often took good care of me. When I was in trouble, she always stood by me and made me feel better.

This winter holiday, we went to the amusement park (游乐园) Happy Valley together. We had a great time together on the roller coaster (过山车). We held each other's hands and shouted in a loud voice when we were riding the roller coaster. We were so excited. The ride made me feel a little sick, so she bought a bottle of water for me. This experience left me with a lot of good memories and made our friendship stronger.

Many adults think that children can't be friends forever. But I don't think so. Maybe we can't always spend all of our time together. But I will enjoy the time I spend with her and the good memories she has given me.

Complete the summary of the passage above with only one word for each blank.
