北京市顺义区2016届九年级下学期中模拟考试英语测试

阅读下列短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。

A Special Lesson

When I was a foreign teacher in China, every day I taught English to my students and they taught me about China. One day the topic turned to saying “I love you”. I was shocked (震惊) to learn that not one of my students has said this to their mothers, nor had their mothers said it to them.

“Does your mother love you?” “Of course,” they answered. “How do you know?” was my logical question. They responded that their moms cooked and always told them what they were doing wrong to show their caring. I was stunned (使目瞪口呆). So mom's cooking and criticizing read out as “I love you”.

“Then do you say ‘I love you' to her?” They agreed that getting good grades, followed by good jobs would be how they showed their love.

I come from a culture where most people are expressive enough, so I repeated these questions in classes over time. Gradually, I began to get different responses. Some of them had exchanged those sentiments with their moms.

One of my favorite stories of change came from a girl. When she came home from university, her mother met her at the door and hugged her. This had never happened before, but her mom said, “Now that you have gone, I have more time to myself. I noticed that in some places mothers and children hug each other and I decided it was a good idea and that I would begin hugging you.”

In my family we all say “I love you” a lot. While it is true that we often say the words without having great depth of feelings at that moment, it is almost like a blessing we give each other. Those three words carry a world of meaning, even when said as a greeting, but most especially if they are the last words we say to or hear from those we love.

(1)、The foreign teacher _________.

A、comes from America B、is a young woman C、is expressive enough D、knows much about China
(2)、Why was the foreign teacher shocked?

A、Because her students say "I love you" to her. B、Because the students' mums don't love them. C、Because the students don't know the meaning of “I love you”. D、Because the students and their mums didn't say “I love you” to each other.
(3)、In paragraph 5, what's the real meaning of the mom's hugging?

A、She is meeting her daughter at the door. B、She loves her daughter and misses her. C、She is glad that she has more time to herself. D、She finds it interesting to hug her daughter.
(4)、What's the main idea of the passage?

A、Say “I love you” more to your family. B、Say “I love you” a lot to Chinese people. C、Say “I love you” as a greeting to others. D、Say “I love you” without great depth of feelings.

There are two paths(路)in life, Should and Must. We arrive at these crossroads again and again. And each. time, we have to choose.

Should is how others want us to show up in the world—what we should or shouldn't do. When we choose Should, we're choosing to live our life for someone or something other than ourselves. The journey. to Should can be smooth, and the risk is small.

Must is who we are, what we believe, and what we do when we are alone with our truest self. Must is why Van Gogh(梵高)painted his whole life without ever getting people's recognition. Must is why Reyna Marder Gentin started to write for the first time after 23 years of being a lawyer.

Choosing Must sounds·fantastic, right? To choose Must is to say yes to hard work and endless effort, to say yes to a journey without a road map or tour guides.

How can we actually choose Must?

Ask yourself, "What is my Must?" If you don't know the answer, write down your biggest, most impossible dreams! Don't worry! It's just the first step.

Now, think about what's actually in your way. Is it your parents? Maybe they're just worried that you haven't thought it through. Try to make a practical plan for what you want to do. Your parents may find it a good one. Is it money? Well, the best way to make money is to do what you love because it's very likely that you will pay great attention to it. Choosing Must doesn't mean we need to give up everything we already have. It's about changing oh e small thing at a time.

If you believe that you have something special inside of you, it's about time you give Must a try—today.

Wilbur is a fat and strong pig. He and other animals live on Mr Zuckerman's farm. He has a good friend called Charlotte. Charlotte is a spider (蜘蛛) and she is very good at spinning webs (织网). Days ago, the old sheep told Wilbur that Mr Zuckerman would kill him for Christmas dinner. Wilbur was afraid, but Charlotte said she would help him.

Charlotte spent days and nights writing nice words about the pig Wilbur on her webs. They were excellent, humble (谦虚的), some pig and so on.

"Wilbur is such a great pig. We will not kill him," Mr Zuckerman told Mrs Zuckerman.

Wilbur isn't afraid any more. He comes to tell Charlotte the good news. "Do you feel happy for me, Charlotte?" Charlotte answers, "Sure, my friend." "Thank you so much, Charlotte. You make me a great pig, but you look so tired. What's the matter?" Wilbu r asks.

Charlotte thinks for a minute and says, "Wilbur, I'm too tired. I'm afraid I'm going to die. I'm leaving you …" Wilbur begins crying.

"Don't be sad, Wilbur! I'm just a spider. I'm nobody. But by helping you, my life is valuable (有价值的). Thank you!" Wilbur says in a sad voice. "What can I do, Charlotte? I would like to give you my life. I really would."

Charlotte smiles and says, "I believe in you. Look at the egg sac (卵囊). There are 540 eggs in it. That means I can have 540 children. You can look after them well, right?"

Wilbur says yes and cries again …
