    Artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能)is the ability of a computer program or a machine to think and learn. It is also a field of study that tries to make computers "smart". John McCarthy, a scientist, came up with the name "artificial intelligence" in 1955. Many things such as learning and problem solving can be done by computers, though not in the same way as we do.

    An unusual goal of AI research is to create computer programs that can learn, solve problems, and think logically(逻辑地). At present we use the term Al for successfully understanding human speech, recognizing(识别)human faces, operating self-driving cars and competing in some game systems like Chess and AlphGo(阿尔法狗). Some people also consider AI a danger to humans if it develops too quickly. Professor Stephen Hawking (霍金), a well-known British scientist, was not for this kind of technology.

    Math is the basic language of AI. If we raise the standard in the learning of math, our students will be more likely to become successful AI designers in the future. We not only want bright students, but also need to attract average students and give them the math skills which are needed to change them into AI designers. Besides, a good knowledge of computer science is also necessary for AI designing.

Scientists hope to create creative and emotional AI which can possibly understand human feelings or create art. Many ways and tools have been tried to discover this fascinating field.

Does your mood(情绪) change with the seasons?

Some people find that when the temperature goes down, so do their spirits. Those people sometimes feel sad for no reason. They eat more and put on weight. They have trouble sleeping. They can't think clearly. This is the winter blues(忧郁).

Here are some ways for you to beat the winter blues.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

Some experts say that the winter blues happen because we get less sunlight in winter than we do in other seasons. They say that the decrease(减少) in sunlight can make us feel sad. Getting more sunlight each day can help you feel better.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Taking a walk or doing some exercise will make chemicals called endorphins(内啡汰)in your body. Endorphins are natural" feel good" chemicals.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Avoid having too much sugar. If you prefer sweet food, like cookies or candy, it may be a sign that you need more protein(蛋白质), like meat, chicken or fish.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Cut back if you have too many things to do. Make sure you have some quiet time to yourself. Get some rest. Don't be so busy that you get run-down.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

If you feel sad all the time and the feeling won't go away, you may have a bigger problem than the winter blues. Talk to a friend you trust, or get help from a doctor.

A. Ask for help

B. Reduce stress

C. Eat healthy food

D. Get out in the sun

E. Do some exercise

F. Have enough sleep

Young people and older people don't always agree with each other. They sometimes have different {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(看法) about living, working and having fun. But last month in one special program in New York, adults and teenagers lived together and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (影响) each other in a friendly way.

Each summer 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as a group. Everyone works for several hours each day. Lots of vegetables and fruit are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(种植) on the farms, i{#blank#}4{#/blank#}carrots, tomatoes and apples. Teenagers learn to{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(修理)things like tables and chairs with the help of the adults.

When people live together, rules are always{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (必要的). In this program the teenagers and the adults make the rules together. Also, they make a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(协议)to decide everything together. If someone breaks a rule, the whole group will discuss the problem. Sometimes, adults are w{#blank#}8{#/blank#}than teenagers in solving problems, but teenagers have quicker mind.

One of the teenagers says about the experience, "We don't only think about o{#blank#}9{#/blank#}. We learn to think about the{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(整个的)group."

Foxes with nine tails, animals with human faces and fish bodies, turtles with bird heads and snake tails… these magical animals are from Shan Hai Jing ( The Classic of Mountains and Seas). This old book played an important role in the world and inspired today's works. Let's learn more about it!

Shan Hai Jing took shape before the Qin Dynasty (221—206 BC). Like an encyclopedia, it writes about the world in the eyes of people at that time. The 30, 000- word book records about 40 states, 550 mountains, 300 rivers, more than 100 people in history and 400 interesting animals.

Shan Hai Jing had a deep influence on the culture of mythology (神话学) in the world. It was taken to Japan during the Sui(581—618) and Tang(618—907), or much earlier. In Japan, it was popular. People there once saw it as a guidebook for traveling in China. The book's monsters were also popular.

Shan Hai Jing has inspired many works. Liu Siliang is a teacher at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He said the book inspired the writing of Journey to the West and Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. Pop culture works also borrow ideas from the book. Some of animals in the book even go into movies, such as Zouwu, the star monster in Shan Hai Jing. It has a tiger- body with stripes of five colors. Its tail is longer than its body. It can travel 1, 600 kilometers in a day. We can see it in the popular movie Fantastic Beasts II in 2021.
